Great work everyone! This thread has amazing work throughout it. I just recently decided to place all the HK/Asian Bat Team stuff in my plugins folder, and it is all wonderful. I have one question - Is their any other renderer for Gmax? If anyone knows, can they please tell me. Seems to be a bit of talk about rendering, so just wondering. I have Gmax and would love to be able to render from another angle. I only wish I had 3DS Max...

Lots of great creations going on in here!

But is this team only interested in HK buildings? Maybe I've just missed the non HK ones. I know this isn't really a  request thread or anything like that, so let me ask you... do you have any plans on creating any south korean buildings?

I've been lurking some over at skyscrapercity and the korea -> projects and construction section alway blows my mind. 4.gif

Suseong SK Readers View (33~55 floors, 8 buildings)

Centro Palace(~43 floors)

We've the Zenith (~54 floors)

some redevelopment going on in Seoul:

Dunchondong Redevelopment

Ichondong Redevelopment

Anyways, keep up the good work!

Wow, typical Asian residential estates! Looks like Hong Kong isn't the only city where these are so almost grotesquely huge. o_O

As for the focus on Hong Kong, that's partly due to the fact that the team started as Hong Kong BAT Team. The expansion of the theme to all Asia is a rather recent decision, and you must bear in mind that many BAT projects last long. When the descision to cover all Asia was taken, our BATters already had so much stuff in their pipelines that it will take a while before the Hong Kong stuff will be finished and released. Paul, for example, started out with a first attempt at BATting Pacific Place, tried to BAT it all in one, then the stuff became impossible to handle, so he sent it over to bixel, who tried his best, but then he decided to start over, and now the buildings are being released slowly. In the meantime, many BATs have been released, but some of the very first projects are still running.

However, if you take a look at Skyfire2275's latest project, you will see it's a building from Shengzhen (sp?), if I didn't mix that up with anything else. Anyway, a different Chinese city. 2ch.net simplayer focuses on typical Asian mid-rise buildings with that characteristical busy and chaotic look, and I bet the future will bring more non-HK releases. 2.gif

thanks, T Wrecks, this brings me back to a little discussion I had with bixel the other day. Personally, bixel and I want to stay modelling HK buildings. One problem: we are the Hong Kong/ASIA bat team and the new members, Skyfire and Simfox are also doing HK buildings. I think it would be best for them to take a look at other cities and countries if they don't mind. That way, we'll get a more diverse collection of buildings to offer on the STEX. Personally I like Tokyo as well, but many of it's buildings have already been done. I found a lot of them on a foreign site, i think it was Spanish. but unfortunatly they're all Landmarks. Maybe if we can get permission we'd be able to modd them for more functionality.

Anyway, after Pacific Place and Lippo Centre and maybe the International Commerce centre I'll take a look at Singapore.

Well, I can understand that Hong Kong must be one of THE cities for a BATter to recreate...

Yeah, Shun Hing Square in Shenzhen, China... It will be my next project and is not quite Hong Kong... but close. We'll see where I go after that... I'm not looking anywhere in particular right now, but if I find something good I will do it. I'm also not taking requests now because I want to stay focused on my current projects! 3.gif .

If anyone has pics of Shun Hing Square, please feel free to PM me with links, or post *some* of them here with the rest as links... I don't want to be the cause of too much clutter!

The foreign buildings from Tokyo that paulvmontfort is talking about were on Capital Simcity... I downloaded a bunch of them. Watch out... they have TONS AND TONS OF POPUPS!!! Very annoying... even Firefox wasn't stopping them.

@ cowkilla: Tokyo city hall has been BATted, I don't know if it is on this site or another... I find it again, I will PM you a link.

@ T Wrecks Don't worry I have some interesting ideas for the window texture for Sorrento. I wont post a pic here but this link shows a building with different coloured windows, this can be done with the Sorrento easy so it look habited. http://www.geocities.com/asiaglobe/gallery/hk-tungchung.htm

@ van1357 Welcome! You want to BAT, sounds good. Re-render buildings at different angles? Also sounds cool too however you will need the gmax or 3ds. file to do this. Maxis places all building at a 20 degree angle which is very complimentary I think, but yeah sometimes I render buildings at different angles.

@ Simfox What happened to Beijing Silver Tower? I thought you finished it?

Laspe There are so many great Residential Buildings/Complexes out there! God knows I want them all, but I can't possibly complete everyone. T Wrecks is righ I have quite a list to finish, Tung Chung Crescent, Sorrento, Tierre Verde, Banyan Garden, Harbourside (NEW VERSION), Harbourfront Landmark, Caribbean Coast, Tregunter Towers...oh the list goes on.

@ Paulvmontfort I think you are being a little greedy 9.gif

@ 2ch.netsimplayer You new buildings are simply incredible ABSOLUTELY GOLDEN!!!!

@ bixel: Hmm... that link brought me to an all-HK photo site. Maybe your bookmarks are outdated? It said on the front page that they (the guys from the site, not your bookmarks) recently moved. Anyway, my comment about these textures were not really directed at you and your residential buildings. With these buildings, the windows are interrupted and split into hundreds of tiny surfaces anyway. I mentioned that more in view of upcoming office towers with shiny all-glass facades.

@ skyfire: Boy, you change your avatars more often than others change their underwear... 46.gif anyway, so you meant those BATs by JSteed on CSC? Well yes, these are rather cool. Top quality, I'd say.

And if you get popups there, you should keep your eyes peeled for the neat little Firefox Extension "AdBlock Plus". Install, subscribe to some filter lists by ticking a few checkboxes, restart and enjoy. No popups, no ads, no nothing. Well, the content of the page is still there, of course. 3.gif

Well Shenzhen alone could employ dozen of baters for years to come:

    night31.jpg

Bixel: Silver Tower is actually done (well 95%) as far as modeling is concerned, but being my very first attempt at 3D modeling I did make some mistakes with it (naturally) and I stack with the idea of reflections. Couldn’t get then to work due to orthographic nature of Camera Rig, and then started looking for solutions and trying to model other things as well, and then got to Vray… actually that was a present from a good friend of mine, he is a graphic designer , rather good one, and he tries, God bless him, to encourage all my attempts at creativity… so, lately I was more learning all sorts of intricacies of 3D modeling and various lighting and rendering techniques, for which One Peking Road (and also you last one) became test fields… I plan to finish One Peking Road before August (most probably) and after I’ll get back from holidays I’ll finish Beijing Silver Tower, which most probably will be remodeled from ground up using the knowledge and experience I’ve acquired in last 2 months.

    ok try this one http://www.globalphotos.org/hk-tsingyi.htm

Update on the Sorrento....I have no pictures of the Sorrento Roof, so I hope this works. What do you guys think? Too random? Bad design...give me your thoughts

    sorrentodemo32hg.jpg

[Edit] Gotta an actual picture of the roof of the Sorrento...remarkable bare and boring

    sorrentosatellite0bm.jpg

do you want me to strip down the roof a little or leave as is?

@ bixel: I say leave it as is because as I said before: In real life nobody really sees the roof... in SC4 everyone sees the roof. The extra detail, even if it is not entirely realistic is good in my opinion for the sake of the game. But that's just me.

@ T Wrecks: Totally off-topic: I am trying to find an avatar that I like and looks good...?

@ SimFox: How about we conquer Shenzhen after our current projects are done. 3.gif

Thanks Skyfire...I think I will keep it as is.

Here is some texture work I have planned  for the Sorrento...the gaol is to make it look habited...I hope this looks good. Colors are determined by actual photos of the buildings...apparently HK is really into green glass.

    sorrentodemo44in.jpg

And here is a shot taken from the LE, so a typical ingame shot. I am quite happy with this.

    sorrentodemo51lr.jpg

@ T WRECKS!!!!! Turns out you have an error in the Dynasty Court capacity satisfied...I was trying to grow it and it never happened so I went to take a look at the US GROW desc. file you incorrectly set the R$$ at 9576 so I changed this to 5800. Also I lowered the Liberte R$$ to 7250 and the Liberte R$$$ to 6130. I will provide feedback as to their performance.

As we have seen the Harbourside fits about 7100 R$$ confortably without dilipidation...SC4 biggest R$$$ is I think the Twin Towers which only holds about 3500 so I used this to measure out performance stats for the above desc. files. Anyway I will commence testing...

Further...in the future I don't think we really need to push the envelope of Residential Tower capacity...as we have seen we have actually been setting their numbers higher than actual RL unit/fill size. I think anything under 8000 is good for R$$ and though R$$$ needs more testing I imagine we cannot breach 7000. Just my guess.

Ok, so I have been slaving away over texturing the CKC. Several hours of labour and I have ended up with this. It is ok, but not great. I also don't know if it is on the right side of the building or not, but that can be fixed easily. I am fairly sure the the reflexion is in the correct orientation. I still need to texture and finish the base, as well as the top... and figure out how to light up the logo at the top... I know the theory, I just need to learn how to apply it. Any comments? Click to enlarge!

    CKC_t.JPG

    EDIT:

As I can see from the first two replies, it is no good. 3.gif Oh well. I'm going to see if jesselong wants this one for his CJ. Everyone else can have something else... Let's see here... I'll try something tomorrow unless Langham Place keeps me busy all day.

@ Skyfire hrmm.....not to rain on your parade...but I must agree with cowkilla. I think it needs a more ambiguous texture...I can try editing the textures I provided with some buildings appearing to be reflected into it without it being too dramatic...well see.

The Sorrento is wonderful! But I think the windows could be a little bit more grey, and also I had some photos of the base of the Sorrento... Let me grab some of them to your e-mail later...

And the SHKC is looking good! But it keeps me wondering if the building windows are in blue or black colour...

Hrmm...all my references show strong green....

@ T Wrecks Good news!!! My adjusted stats are much more user friendly and have greater playability. I grew the Dynasty Court and 2 Libertes R$$ without any dilipitation...my population jumped from 500,000 to 600,000 in just 4 years. I think these are pretty good stats...I want your opinion. If you think this is good I will be finally ready to do the Liberte Re-Render with adjusted stats.

Yes! Zhonghua II is out! Thanks HONG KONG!!! Fabulous LOT work!! Next time I do Asian buildings, it would probably be some slightly delapidated Residential hi-rises with shops and restaurants on 1st-3rd floors like AiguoLu73 but slightly taller.

And sorry that I couldn't prepare building descriptions on time...

@ bixel: Thanks for bringing my attention to this mistake! I have no idea how that happened. o_O All growable lots have occupant numbers I never intended for them... no wonder it was so hard to grow! It should have 5,750 R$$ (9,702 R$ when dilapidated) normally, and that WOULD be user-friendly. No building except the Libert
