We could create a sticky for buildings, rail accessories, props, seaside stuff, and parks. That would make getting at the stuff we have a much quicker process for those looking for specific items. That and if we start sorting or providing links now, it would be much quicker than if we decided to do this later on, when we have more files to deal with.

That is one avenue we could start pursuing, any thoughts?quote>

Aha - Rougetsu - I have some other stuff from him. Train stations, I believe. I think I got them from Ragutaro's BBS. Can we trouble you to make a similar inquiry there? Maybe somebody there knows him (or her?) better...

About collecting the Japanese BAT's that are already on the STEX - shouldn't be a problem. There aren't that many. I'm aware of most of them, but I don't have very much time right now. Maybe I'll get a chance to put a collection of links together this weekend...

Thankyou Vester_DK,  Mambomumba, and any others for your help in trying to find this station by Rougetsu. I asked Jeronij where I could download it and Vester_DK replied that he??? didn't think it was available for download any more. I also looked around for a while and couldn't find a link to download it.

This station was mentioned on the first post of page 25 of this thread (I think, the pic doesn't show) and I downloaded it when I saw it. I then lost it when I deleted everything in my plugin folder (it was a total mess). I forgot about it until I saw Jeronij using it on this page of Simtropia. It's a great looking station and I hope we will be able to download it again.

Isaac.

jesus christ that ship is insane. I think SOMY must be a professional 3d modeler in real life considering how extremely detailed high quality stuff he makes.

I agree with you, hamsterTK, if he isn't a modeller by trade, he should be. SOMY, if you ever check in on these threads, you rock!

It looks like a suburb. And a darn good one too. I adore the detail and sheer realism of it. SOMY is certainly doing it again...

This thread is addictive, i've come back to it after a long break. lots of great new lots! i can't wait for the new somy housing, especially on the diagonal like that, looks great.

i've got a question that maybe somebody has already asked, but i didn't find it searching through the thread.

is there a way to have the japanese script show up in our english games? i've modded most of the lots i've downloaded into english (for my own use) so the icons and information pop up in english, but in some cases, especially with the castles with their unique UI windows, i'd love to find a way that some of the original japanese shows up in my game. is that possible? is there a way to get a copy of the japanese font file and then the characters would show up? sorry if this is a stupid or redudandant question.

thanks pnorrell for your great guide, a quick way to access some of the best sites.

Well it would be a lot easier to help you if you post a link to the picture. From this link I can see that it's APTX's. Well if you read the post eddiem wrote it was a work of APTX.

I would recommend you to have a look at pnorrell's Guide to Japanese BAT Hunting. There you could have help yourself to this information.

As for getting some of the custom UI windows to show up in Japanese in the English games, I think you would need to edit the BAT itself and replace the Japanese with English. If you want to put Japanese characters into the English games, I am not sure how you would go about doing that. The way Windows XP does it is by added language modules to the OS, I don't think Simcity has that ability.

i saw that neighborhood thing on somy's site a while ago. Im guessing he is going to create one huge city block with smaller diagonal streets like that. it'll kick ass when its done.

Ive never done anything with custom query windows, but arent they just something you make and use datgen or LE plugin manager to put in the game? I mean, you could find out how much jobs etc these buildings they make have and then make a plugin to add the queries? BAT doesnt have anything to do with, its just renders and makes the building, right?

I am seeing a new research project for our modding meisters. Be interesting to see if it ever works, though I admit I can't even get the Japanese readme *.txt files to display their characters in anything other than garbled Windows code.

Do you have the East Asian language pack installed on your Windows? If you install that pack, you should be able to see most Asian character sets. Just go into "Control Panel" , "Regional and Language Options", click on the "Languages" tab, and check the two boxes in the "Supplemental Language Support" box. Windows will do the rest.

i do have the language pack installed on my computer so i can see all the characters when i do any web browsing and the characters also show up in the ilive reader. what i've done so far is copy the japanese text from reader, paste into one of the translation sites, then copy the translation (which is usually garbled and pretty entertaining) back into reader so in the end i have english versions of the lots. its great because now at least i have readable information on all the lots and can use them just like any other lot in the game without having to memorize all their stats. unfortunately, the japanese characters don't show up in the game, even with language packs. i think it must require something in the game itself, like a font file. i suppose i should ask if anyone has a japanese copy of the game and maybe they can upload their font file. if i was better at photoshop, i could make a png file with the characters and add that to the UI file, but that is beyond my abilities at the moment. i guess i was just hoping somebody would have a quick and easy solution that would make me feel dumb but happy that the end result was good4.gif thanks for the ideas though.

anybody else have a good method for making english versions of the japanese lots? my way is kind of tedious but it does get the job done for most lots. some however don't work, i'm not sure why, i have to use only the japanese version.
