I've started a transportation article for the game on the ST wiki. It includes roads and transit. Feel free to add to it! http://wiki.simtropolis.com/Transportation_%28SimCity_2013%29

We're re-tuning the cost of all roads and avenue, you'll have to update them again in 3 weeks!

Any chance of seeing 1-way roads?

Any sign of proper roundabouts that i'm sure we were once promised? I don't count drawing a road in a circle and having traffic lights at each road on and off as a roundabout.

No.

Maybe one will come later?

What about bus routes, will you have to micromanage that or will it be automatic? With too many bus stops it should be a wery slow way of transportation.

Will all sims have the same cars = same speed and cargo capacity? Wealthier sims should be able to buy bigger and faster cars.

Im guessing that commercial zones will be affected by how close they are to the customers and if the customers will be able to transport their goods home. I assume that transportation of goods is going to be a big issue with the glassbox engine, will there be cargo companies and taxis availible?

Wealthy sims should be able to take a cab to the restaurant/movies and dont need to worry about parking while the poor one will be affected by how far it is to the parkinglot or bus station.

You have to place bus stops, but not the routes. I believe cars are all the same since it hasn't been mentioned by developers. There is no need to transport goods home. Sims buy happiness at shops (literally). Goods do need to be transported from factories, lorries will spawn at the factory for this purpose. I believe cabs are only used by tourists. Parking isn't covered by the simulation.

You need to place a bus depot first, then you can place bus stops throughout your city. Each stop has a 'zone of influence' which gives you an indication of spacing. Additional buses can be added to the depot to reduce wait times.

As long as railway gradients and curves are realistic.

The intersections are 90 degrees and the gradients are pretty steep. However, the curves seem to be smooth.

The intersections are 90 degrees

This has long since been confirmed as a bug that needed fixing, and we haven't seen any junctions since.

Check Ocean Quigley's youtube vids. Many train intersections (the first ones have a bug where the train stops for the car at roadcrossings, but that has been fixed for the later videos).

I doubt they'll release the game with 90 degree railway intersections if they can have curvy roads

I guess it also depends on if the rail intersection is in the city or the region. You might have some more control in city tiles making a more realistic rail junction. In the region, that's another story. :P

Something from today's community day ... They are looking into subways, but they have ui and tech issues. No promises but they hope to have them working at some point.

Does that mean that every extra bus stop adds equal amount of wait time?

Unsure... It might have something to do with usage as well.

The wait time depends on many things, such as

- The amount of distance between the bus stops

-The amount of people trying to ride the bus (buses seem to skip stops if the bus is full)

-The amount of buses

It actually times how long it takes for buses to move between stops.

In my POV each city is a SimIsland within a region.

It's nice that they are hoping to get subways up and running some time, when the game is being released in less than a month...

A little late to the topic, but from what I seen in the 2 posts above me, are they finally including subway now?. If so, than that makes me very happy. Quite a bit late, yes, but I am not complaining by any means. That's for sure. Hope it is true!.

No. They are clearly not going to be be implementing and testing subways in the time before launch. Subways will only appear as part of a future release (and will probably not be part of a free upgrade).

The info came from the community day, they said they were looking into it but had UI and tech issues. They made NO promises, but they did not say if it would be free or paid if it did come to the game.

I'd like to think, considering the power of GlassBox, and it's singularly useful application to transport and logistical simulation, that they would do as Simutrans does and have a constant string of free updates to the simulator as an option. Alas, I daresay this shall not be the case. Nice idea for a petition, though, what?

Perhaps my phrasing was unclear. I was also making a guess that they would not introduce a major new feature without charging for it. Which is not unreasonable given the DLC they charge for in other games.

I think, that if you are gonna use the same name as a previous title, that its unreasonable to charge for things in the new item that were in the previous version. Even if you want to call it a reboot or whatever, its still of poor taste. I mean if they want to piggy back on the name recognition of the Simcity brand, then they should provide the basic tools of a simcity game. Everything that existed in the basic release version of SC4 should be in the game free of charge. Everything that came in SC3 should of been in SC4 etc etc.

I have no problem if they wanted to start over....but they should of not used the simcity name for this game..... Fact is this game should of been called Simcity: Societies 2, but the name is too toxic. I can understand their reasoning, but it doesnt mean it isnt a cheap move.

Add a bus depot

Place a bus stop

Place another bus stop

Observe the bus

If the bus can handle this network add more stops

Observe after say 10PM, does the bus eventually park up overnight

Simulation experimenters clock in :)

The platforms appear to still be shorter than the trains... Even though the railways are straight and long. Also an incline over a highway was very steep and the train didn't even lose speed. Just noting stuff.
