What are TVs and Computers for?
nilssoa replied to warrior's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
How do the rules of demand & offer apply in your opinion? As no one damands Consumer products the price should be close to 0. Your "Market" is someone at Maxis deciding what the equilibrium price should be. Sounds a lot like communism to me... My idea was that when houses are rich enough they demand consumer products to get to the next level. (Low -> Medium -> High) If there is a point in having high wealth houses then there would be a real market based on the rules of demand & offer. Games like Ceasar are biult this way, to level up houses so mansions and villas you need to keep providing more and more goods. Add agriculture, add car factories, add clothes and you have a lot of fun specializations. To cut costs you need to cooperate in the region, voilá and there is a purpose for multiplayer. -

I dont see how the trading will ever be "fixed" There is no real demand for the end product, thus there can be no real market. Is it even possible to import tvs and computers? Possible solution: You need x amount of tvs and computers for High and medium wealth residents to develop and stay happy. To sell it to your population you need to manufacture it or import it, then ship it to a store where sims can shop and be happy. Simsalabim, a need for consumer products is created. I dont think this will ever be implemented in the game as EA thinks its way to complex for our little brains to understand and appreciate. -
SimCity next version ideas...
nilssoa replied to cshmech's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I totally agree with you. To me it feels very wrong to have a manufacturing specialization with no real damand for it. Better to have some products that the Sims need to be happy. Food, cars, consumer products, clothing, entertainment, etc. Then you have the choice of providing the whole chain for big profit or parts of that chain for smaller profit. For the region aspect of the game the mechanics needs to make it better to trade stuff within the region than from the global market. Of course you should have bigger freedom with the inter city connections. One road entrance only makes an optimally planned city look very strange. -
Unfilled jobs vs unsold goods

Where did you find the spreadsheet? -
Played the game alot the first week but then all the bugs and/or flaws in logic just made me angry. Haven´t started the game up in a month, really hope they will be able to fix it. Dont really care about the money but have this feeling that they stole a game that could have been great from me.

Its stupid, you are supposed to create a supply chain and the final product is basically useless? The computers and TVs should generate wealth in the city to have any meaning. Why is the price so high? Nobody really needs it. I dont know who was in charge of the trading logic in this game but that person should be ashamed. How can import and export prices be the same? That means there is no reason to make anything else than consumer products as long as you can import all you want. To maximise profits you need consumer product factories all over your city and an archeaology to supply workes. There is no need for a supply chain, you only need to be at the top of the chain. Import price should be higher than export price, also there should be a cost for shipping to global market. That means exporting whithin region should generate higher price than global market. Then it would make sense to have a supply chain. This game could be rally great but why did they totally neglect the logic behind what they created? -
I can see that EA dont wnat to miss the possible profit thar modders are taking away. And then EA cant make as many mods as all the gamers. Why not make a store where you can sell your mods to other players. EA has a % on the salesprice and everyone is happy. That system would generate even more mods than sc4.

Glassbox was a huge waste of effort for utilities
nilssoa replied to john2218's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I dont care how the utilities are calculated as long as it works fine. Now its pretty much broken. What I do care about is the tile size, without agents for utilities Im guessing that tiles could be a lot bigger. What really irritates me is that sims rather sit in the congested shortest route than takes a little detour with no traffic. If its too demanding for every agent to constantly reevaluate its route then every agent could calculate fastest route based on yesterdays traffic from the start. That is pretty close to how traffic works in real life. -
SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

Does that mean that every extra bus stop adds equal amount of wait time? -

What about bus routes, will you have to micromanage that or will it be automatic? With too many bus stops it should be a wery slow way of transportation. Will all sims have the same cars = same speed and cargo capacity? Wealthier sims should be able to buy bigger and faster cars. Im guessing that commercial zones will be affected by how close they are to the customers and if the customers will be able to transport their goods home. I assume that transportation of goods is going to be a big issue with the glassbox engine, will there be cargo companies and taxis availible? Wealthy sims should be able to take a cab to the restaurant/movies and dont need to worry about parking while the poor one will be affected by how far it is to the parkinglot or bus station.
