I tend to like sports cards for their design, not for the players on them.

I also have a soft spot for older cards (Topps had some really great designs in the 60's and early 70's), though being rarer and more expensive I naturally don't have as many. Makes them more special, I suppose.

I was never really into sports cards. I had some Upper Deck (maybe?) NBA cards from the early 90s, but that was a short-lived fad before I got into comic books. So, I had other things to spend my money on. I probably have about 2000 issues in my collection. Many, many more will be added before I'm done.

I was going to say something about stuff like this tripping up computerized grammar checkers but I typed that sentence in to MS Word and it actually doesn't stick a squiggly green line under it. Guess the grammar check isn't as dumb as I think it is.

MS Word fails in quotations. It puts a grammar green line thingy mistake when I do quotes with page numbers such as

I've always found those sort of inline citations to be distracting clutter. I far prefer Wikipedia's method of a simple superscript number in brackets. It's there if you're curious, but easy to ignore if you're not.

I rather like footnotes at the bottom. I've done way more than my share of research, and I like it very much when there is a bit of extra information at the bottom of a page helping to clarify that which is written above. I think in colleges and journal articles they prefer the way 111222333444 demonstrated above. Which style manual requires that? Chicago? APA? I can't remember.

My English teacher made us use MLA when I was in high school. That was before every single house had an internet connection and way before Wikipedia, so we all had to go out and buy those stupid little books to figure out how to site our reports for that class. Then I went to college and everything was on the internet. It changed SO fast.
