My first gaming console was a Gameboy Color.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I was only around for the last couple years of the 80's, and not old enough to remember much of anything. It was in the SNES era that I was playing NES. People had them because an older sibling or some such had played with it, and a lot of kids didn't have a SNES because many parents had the attitude of "what's wrong with the game console you already have? I'm not getting you a new one!". This same attitude is why it took until the PS2 era for a console to enter my house. "You have the computer to play video games on! What do you need a console for?" My mother was also not inclined to buy us toys that encouraged us to sit still rather than be active.

I remember the 80s! Mostly Van Halen and Madonna and Michael Jackson when he was still black were all on MTV all the time, and the NES was pretty great.

My family's first console was an SNES though, including my first game: SimCity. My Granny had the NES where we played Castlevania and Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3. I miss the simply side-scrolling action games. I'm just not a serious enough gamer to devote the time and effort necessary to get any kind of good at FPS games or anything that moves in 360 degrees (besides racing or sports games, and how good I am at those is debatable). Also, that SNES Christmas was THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER.

I can't remember the '80s. I wasn't born until late '91.

Yep same, also missed the 80s by a few years.

I always joke with my older cousin that cause he was alive in the 80s all he saw was black and white TV and telegrams :P

I missed the 80's also (though I do appreciate their culture). I was born in summer of 1991 so I don't remember much of the early 90's either. My first console was the Game Cube though I was aware of the N64. The first computer I played games on was a Windows 98.

I was born in 1994 so my first Game console thing was the Gameboy colour which I got as a gift from my dad so I would be quiet on a flight I was on with him. Especiaally since I got Pokemon Yellow, I didn't talk to anyone for days. :P

Duke: Nope, just relaxing at home this time...

I was born in 1991 but my first gaming device was a Gameboy Advanced though Pokémon Yellow was also my first portable game. I am not sure whether I played Pokémon Yellow first or Jump Start 3rd Grade.

I only enjoyed the Pokémon games in Johto (Silver and Gold and their remakes) and I only liked the first season of Pokémon, Johto Adventures was OK but I stopped watching after that. Channel flicking to Pokémon further strengthened my opinion that Pokémon was no longer worth watching.

Wow where were you during the 90s Duke?

Mostly in Connecticut. :P

But seriously... I didn't own a Gameboy, so I wasn't playing the games. I was already busy collecting baseball cards, so I wasn't collecting the cards. And I was only watching Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel (stations which showed cartoons all day), whereas Pokemon was on WB (a station which did not), so I wasn't watching the show, either.

Also doesn't help that whereas most people have an attitude of if everyone else is doing something, they want to do it too, I tend to have the opposite attitude: if everyone else is doing something, I specifically want to avoid it. I have to be different for the sake of being different. So, yeah, everyone else was into Pokemon... and thus I was not.

As for what I was into? Well, there was the aforementioned baseball card collecting. Also Lego. And maps.
