AFL has been described as "a combination of soccer, rugby, and murdering people in cold blood". This is, of course, hardly the case. I can't see any soccer in it at all.

It's a fine sport to play if you don't mind being hit by people running at full speed every few minutes without wearing any padding.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I wouldn't exactly call AFL organised murder. Plans tend to not last long enough for it to be called "organised".

Also doesn't organisation imply some level of intelligence? Because that seems to be lacking in many professional AFL players.. :P

What's interesting is that we also used to have an AFL (American Football League). But they were absorbed by the NFL (National Football League), and are now just the AFC (American Football Conference).

Silly Yanks, everyone knows AFL stands for Aussie Rules Football. :P

It actually stands for Australian Football League, if you didn't know that already.

I'm not too interested in boxing. I did go to an AFL game once... I think. Sydney City Roosters vs. Brisbane something or other. I dunno. One of you Aussies will have to clarify for me what league that actually was.

I've been to six football games. One NY Giants game every year from 2003 to 2009 except one year (2006 or 2007) where we had tickets but stayed home because the weather was really foul. After they opened the new stadium the friend of my father's that we got our tickets from dropped his season ticket subscription and so we stopped going.

The first game was noteworthy: it was the last game of the season, on a freezing cold night, December 28, 2003. Besides the fact that it was my 16th birthday, in that game the Giants beat the Eagles in overtime in a rather dramatic fashion to snag a playoff spot. They then proceeded to lose in the first round of playoffs, but hey, fun while it lasted, right?

The last one was also noteworthy in that it was the last game the Giants ever played at the old stadium. Not the last game there outright, though, as the Jets played there the following week.

I don't know that I'll ever go to another football game. It isn't all that interesting compared to baseball, the fans always get very drunk, loud, and obnoxious, and the Meadowlands are a pain in the ass to get to.

The only times I have played football was in PE classes. Other than that, I don't play sports.

I've watched a couple of games of baseball. It's OK, but I prefer cricket.

I've never had a super-competitive attitude when it comes to sports. Failed at American football my freshman year of high school and then only played with my friends on the weekend. I was on a couple of average flag football teams in college, which was fun.

However, I rather wish I had gotten into auto racing. Now there's something that brings out my competitive side. I've since tempered that on the freeway (no speeding tickets in 10 years), but boy does it suck getting passed.

As for me, I play curling, soccer, and baseball. I prefer sports that aren't rough considering I'm not exactly the masculine type. I did do Karate for a few years though, then the teaacher moved away.
