It's silly, really. The Centigrade scale is no more metric than the Fahrenheit scale, it just has 0 and 100 points that are a tad less arbitrary. Kelvin is proper metric but it's never entered common usage, most likely because the numbers, while thermodynamically sound, don't relate well to how humans experience temperature. Nobody has any concept of what 0 K feels like because we can't survive at temperatures anywhere near that low. And discussing weather only with numbers in the upper 200s into the low 300s just seems clunky.

You can use both Kelvin and Celsius when dealing with temperature differences or uncertainties. A difference of 2 C is the same as a difference of 2 K, and 273.15 K +/- 2 C is exactly the same as 273.15 K +/- 2 K. It's definitely not the same as 273.15 C +/- 2 K or C though. That's twice as hot.
