Sydney City Roosters vs. Brisbane something or other.

NRL (National Rugby League) ;)

Thanks. It was a long time ago. I had no idea really. Any idea what the team from Brisbane may have been called?

I've watched a couple of games of baseball. It's OK, but I prefer cricket.

The thing about baseball is if you are new to it, it can be difficult to appreciate just how intricate and advanced a game it really is. I'll try not to bore you here but base running alone takes some time to learn. I guess you are better off playing it if you really want to understand it.

At the same time, a friend tried to teach me some cricket basics once. I tried (balling is it?) the equivalent of pitching. I swear I was doing exactly what he told me to but he kept saying "Nope. You're doing it wrong." Clearly I didn't get it.

For me, meanwhile, this week promises to be quite stressful. Duke Nukem Forever comes out tomorrow, and a day or two later I will have a case of baseball cards arriving in the mail. All while of course still having to go to work, where we've just gotten another data collection request which is going to disrupt our project flow and create backlog. And then there are, ahem, other social obligations to attend to. Too much to do, too little time...

Dammit I need a beer.

I hear ya. I have an interview next week with the same company from before. (This was brought up in the Post Your Picture Thread)

Different hotel though. It's a good job and I wants it. Gotta be on my toes!

That would be the Brisbane Broncos. It was the closest team to me until the Gold Coast Titans started up.

I've watched a couple of games of baseball. It's OK, but I prefer cricket.

Since I am quite unfamiliar with baseball, it is to me what cricket is to most Americans - an unusual sport. It is easy enough to see what's going on for the most part though.

At the same time, a friend tried to teach me some cricket basics once. I tried (balling is it?) the equivalent of pitching. I swear I was doing exactly what he told me to but he kept saying "Nope. You're doing it wrong." Clearly I didn't get it.

Bowling is quite complex. I can't do it properly myself, although I haven't played in quite some time. You don't really need to know that much about it if you just want to play it in the park or on the beach with friends though.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. Duke Nukem: Critical Mass arrived from Amazon today. I played through what I guess you could call the first level (through the first boss, anyway). It's a cute little game... borrows a fair ammount from previous Duke Nukem games in terms of plot and content but in terms of how it plays it's very different. Most of it is platforming like Manhattan Project but the mechanics work a bit differently in a few key ways, and there are sequences that are nothing like that. Occasionally you grab a rifle and snipe at enemies from a stationary position. There's a sequence where you're flying forward and shooting at enemies which fly at you with the camera overhead a la... (what the hell game originally did that? I know there have been many of them). And the boss battles themselves take place in 3D TPS mode (fortunately, the whole game is not like this, as the controls are quite awkward).

Never heard of it, for what its worth i did pre order DNF, only cause i'm curious how the game will work after 14 years of redoing it over and over, if it wasen't for the record it would be an automatic pass for me seeing as i hate sci-fi and anything super natural like super heros and "powers" ect.

The concept probably goes all the way back to Space Invaders.

I don't wish to clutter things up with too much quoting.

Yes, astro. You don't need to study up too much to play. I suppose what I was getting at was that if you want to appreciate Major League Baseball, you may want to devote more time and effort. But I doubt you have any such intention.

The Gold Coast baseball team has the exact same name as the Gold Coast AFL team, that is, the Gold Coast Suns.

What's an Adele?

I also see the Tigers have roared back up into a tie with The Most Hated Team in Baseball, the Hated Indians. And cricket is loved by many Australian teachers here in Japan. I'll have one give me a quick lesson about it someday soon.

Congratulations Duke!

After an overnight download off Steam, I now have Team Fortress 2. Why yes, I do tend to get games late.

4196. Four thousand one hundred ninety-six.

I can't think of anything special about that number, other than the fact that's it's an even number.

We just finished painting a crate a few hours ago... We're gonna use it to store our recycling. Still gotta paint the inside, and the bottom, though...

On the topic of air travel, I've just flown back to Canberra from 10 days visiting my family. No ash clouds to report en route.
