Its quite sad that they don't allow student cards as there is no such thing as 'student email' here in Indonesia. Email users ending in .edu are usually faculty, lecturers and staff, not students.

And I'm never, ever making the move to 3dsmax. NO! Just unoriginal and overly standing out.

Since when does it depend on the tool what you do with it? You could also dismiss any text processor (MS Word, LibreOffice Writer, etc.) because the texts produced with it are boring and full of mistakes...

And why is it sad that they don't accept student cards if you don't want to make the move anyway and the tool is stupid?

Besides, it has already been explained to other users that an .edu address is not the only way. Have you even tried contacting them and telling them that you're a student, but cannot get an .edu mail address in your country? Did they tell you that they don't accept student cards?

I edited the 2011 part out of the title of this thread since it's now two versions out of date.

If you want it (which I'm guessing you actually do) try emailing Autodesk.

My email is Yahoo. I might as well wait until high school, so I can receive an up-to-date student card(my student card expired a month ago when exams took place).

^ To add to that...

I've said this in other threads before, but the fact of the matter is that as long as you're not using the software for professional purposes (to make money with) Autodesk will be more than happy to let just about anyone use it for free.

They want as bigger userbase for their software as possible, and obviously nobody is ever going to buy it just to learn with or for personal use i.e. BATing - it costs thousands of dollars. They want people to learn their software so that if/ when these people do become design professionals, the firms they work for go out and buy 3dsMax instead of some other program and they make their profit. Also, a big userbase means community support, which means less work for them.

Nobody is profiting off BATing and by learning the software, you're actually giving the company what they want. So if anyone has any hang-ups about not being the right type of student etc. etc... don’t!

I remember reading an article on reddit a few days ago about students pirating professional software and how it actually benefited companies like Adobe, Microsoft. It creates market dominance and these companies will benefit once these students get hired and they have to buy the license.

Now the problem starts when companies decide to make money using pirated software.

Trying to get 3ds Max, just the 2013 edition but I have no possible way of getting it. Anyone got any suggestions?  I'd really love to try it out for BATing rather than using the Low quality render of GMAX and Google Sketch up :P

____

When I try to download it on Autodesk, it always suggests irrelevant software. Would 3ds Max design 2013 work for BATing, it's my only other option for some reason? :(

Yeah, sounds like there are some cool features in 2014. I generally get the even year versions and skip the odd ones... but I'm quite happy with 2012 at the moment. May upgrade though... who knows.

Looks like they've dropped support for 32-bit in this release, so if you're on anything other than Win 7 or 8 x64, you're out of luck!

Guess what guys 3ds Max Design 2014 is out as some of the other Autodesk software is out, like Maya 2014 ect, but to let you guess know 3ds Max 14 is not out yet, I wonder why. :)

Let's Hope there's no problem using BAT 4 Max on it. :)

Edit: Bat 4 does work on 3ds Max 14 Design, but I am testing the exporting.

As of now I'm having problems with the quality of the render. :(

From the looks of it 3ds Max 2014 Design is not ready for BAT 4 Max. 3ds Max has some render quality problems and exporting issues.

I researched 3ds max and came upon this article.

http://blenderartists.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-16067.html

It appears that a virus called c-dilla is packaged with 3ds max

I tried installing 3ds Max v.4 and it completely screwed me. Turns out max uses a "liscense manager" called Cd-dilla. THis software is viral in nature and can really mess with your machine.

What it did: (thank god I took snapshots and backed up my registry first)

1 , accesed and changed one of the virus definitions in Norton AV, symantec
considers it a virus

2, created and / or changed over 200 registry entries. No, that not a typo, over 200. Including registry entrys for the Norton antivirus active monitor, creating god only knows what kind of vulnerabilities on my system. No fully legitimate software has any buisiness messing with my antiviral.

3, does NOT uninstall, while I've supposedly uninstalled it with the uninstall program, and windows add/remove software, and a couple third party uninstallers, it still lurking in my system, hiding.

4, messed up my CD burning, sometimes causing crashes and ALWAYS slowing it down substantially.

5, it also seems to have tried to bore a hole in my firewall.

6. Deleted all system resore points prior to install, so I can't restore the
system to a good configuration. If I hadn't backed up my registry prior
to the install I'd be absolutely screwed.

C-dilla is spyware, it can collect info and report it tihrough the internet.
No privacy statement is provided, I have been unable to find out what info it reports, who it reports to, or what is done with that info. All inquiries to Discrete (makers of studiomax) and Macromedia (makers of C= Dilla have been ignored.

I'm going to do a full lowlevel format and reinstall, using only backup discs burned BEFORE the max install, as c-dilla appears to be hiding itself inside other files, just like a virus.

C-dilla is the single most malicious piece of software I've come across, and I go through freeware and shareware like junky goes through dope. It's worse that any virus I've ever picked up off the net, and I visit some pretty shady sites

I don't know if max 5 uses C-dilla also, but I strongly recommend against using ANY software that includes c-dilla.

I you,ve found your system is slower after installing Max, or any other problems (like cd burning, etc, it's probably C-dilla.

Please pass this warnig on to any other forums, I can't because I'm afraid to go online untill I can wipe my drive. I'm using my brothers machine to warn you folks here, so please, help spread the word and boycott any software using c-dilla. Then sofware makers will be forced to find a less harmfull way to protect their products.

Thank you for helpng spread the word, and I'd like to hear if anyone else has had problems after installing Studio Max

Does this apply for 3Ds Max 2013 or 2014?
