Eh... I did replace/reposition the lights and it looks better now. I do kinda wish that they had an invisible base instead of trees around them, but beggars can't be choosers, so I'll go with that. I can't seem to find those "spray paint" (for lack of better term) terrain textures that I was sure someone put up somewhere. Working with the RHW is difficult in urban situations, but I'm getting the hang of it. I'm not much for 'superdetailing', but just for the fun of it I may post a city journal some day...

Some day...

Maybe...

And that one has no dual ramps, and you can travel on all directions? How many highways does it actually connect?

well, I am no Interchange fundie, but I came up with a simple one or two...:

Commercia-Jan10001254255532.png

A OWR for traffice to get to other side and

Residentia-Apr4001254251440.png

A more compact version of this.

In the first one, where the road intersects the OWR I know you can put a OWR-roundabout, and I did, but I haven't uploaded those pics, and I don't think I will 3.gif

I guess it's time I stopped lurking here.

Strategist01 - Those can be some decent interchanges if it weren't for the following problems.

- You're hooking two-way roads to the entrance/exit ramps, which means you can enter the wrong side of the highway, which can spell catastrophe. You might want to consider replacing them with a couple OWRs. [Or you could replace the highway ramps with some lateral European ramps

- I'm not liking the sharp 90-degree turns since they're pretty dangerous to large vehicles. I would use the wide radius 90-degree turns or use some diagonal turns.

Here's what I'm talking about.

sunkeninterchange.jpg

europeaninterchange.jpg

I apologize if the European textures I use throw you off.

Here's a couple of interchanges I made. They require a bit of explanation. [Chances are, my explanations will confuse you]

highway85highway96inter.jpg

This is at the Eastern end of Highway 96. The Partial Y-Interchange [Yes, I know, it looks awful. You can blame the Highway ReStyling Mod] goes to Route 52 and Route 74. The other 2 on/off-ramps link Highway 85 and Route 74 together.

This next interchange is so big, I had to put it in a link.

The East/West Highway is Highway 92. The North/South RHW near the center is the Latvaria Expwy. And the last Highway is Highway 292. Because of where the highways were, I had a hard time trying to making this. What you can't see is that there are two ways to get into the Downtown area by Highway 92.

- There is an exit to the west on the 92 that leads to the western part of town.

- There is also an exit in the 292 North of this Interchange.

Is this interchange dangerous? Most likely, yes.

I'll show more of my creations as time goes by.

Thanks sir_knight for the tips! I'll use the european style of going onto/off, add a OWR, extend the part on each side and shove a OWR-rouandabout so that traffic can get in 9.gif Oh and, the European Texture don't throw me off, I'm South African. I really wish my version of the game was shipped wiht European Textures, as they're closer to what I see when I'm on the roads...

This most closely resembles the common Motorway-to-A road interchanges found in the UK.  I'd love to be able to make them more squiggly and curvy though 15.gif

Have you been watching my tutorials on youtube? Those roundabouts are exactly the same as the ones I churn out xD

Also 100th post! Only taken nearly 4 years.

Three in fact.....one comes from the south and heads to the west on its own ramps, one comes from the west, does the 270 loop and heads north, and one begins at this interchange and heads east. I assure you all movements are provided....

Strategist01 & sir_knight:

'Sharp' corners like this you'll find an awful lot in tight urban environments or on roads where the speed isn't too quick.  The M4 in Port Talbot in the UK is a very good example of an exceptionally tight corridor. If you're not familiar with it there is literally this much |___________| space between the mountains and the sea, where the entire town and the motorway has to fit.

Those wide-angle trumpets / parclos would be very good for fast roads though.

As advice to Strategist0, as a rule of thumb, if you have space to make a junction move freely, use it all so that the traffic doesn't have to slow down too much.

I quite like this layout actually. It's kind of like a limited access Halo Interchange.

Offering critique, your top-most junctions are far too close together for safe use RL; to over come that you could very easily in future run your RHW-Avenue branch under that avenue bridge,  with the diamond interchange in the middle.

Looks good though 9.gif Very nice use of the walls.

I do that a lot too - fill the space in my junctions with trees.

You have a redundant movement on this one though. The second-from-bottom onramp isn't really needed because you have that other on-ramp from the roundabout.

[New post because this one pertains to an entirely different subject to the first 9.gif]

In my latest region; these are the interchanges in Morness.

Morness-18Jan301256497341.png

Starting from the west and heading eastwards, this junction is the primary junction for harbour-bound traffic. The docks are just out of shot on the top of the image. There's nothing particularly spectacular about this interchange, just a standard issue roundabout.

Morness-19Apr301256498227.png

Eastwards from that junction is this complicated arrangement.

The motorway originally had just another roundabout interchange here, but even from the off it was inadequate. Traffic from the east trying to get to the industrial area had to all squeeze over that 2 lane steel bridge a little downstream.

The answer was to essentially wrap another motoway around the through route, that went from one side of the river to the other. This new route connected from the roundabout to the other side of the industrial area at a new roundabout along the old main road. New slip lanes had to be added to retain the old junctions westward movements, and 2 more added to allow direct access to the newer route from the main motorway.

Given the large amount of weaving that happens over the 2 new bridges, the speed limit for them is 50mph

Morness-6May301256498285.png

This is now what the original roundabout interchange looks like. You can clearly see the new movement added in the middle of the roundabout on the flyover that brings traffic straight from the motorway onto the new route without having to negociate the roundabout first.

Morness-16May301256498321.png

This is the other end of the new stretch. Just after the bridges are the roundabout-to-westbound movements on the main motorway. At the other end of the new road is its roundabout terminus. This roundabout distributes traffic from the new road onto 3 routes that dive into the industrial area. Local movements, from the other side of the motorway (top of this picture) to the town centre (off shot at the bottom) are catered for in their own tunnel, to keep them off the very busy roundabout.

Morness-27May301256498390.png

Finally, as we move eastwards from the last, we cross another river and come across this much simpler affair. It's a partial diamond that's primarily there to feed traffic off the motorway if the bridge needs to be closed, but also serves as a local eastward access point for commuters.

Just a practice run with the FARHW pieces. In the creation of this interchange, I realised that there were pieces missing... but perhaps in time for another release.

Very nice. Those angles are spot on at least for this country.

How does your tunnel work then?

Owaen, you make some brilliant interchanges, but can you explain the purpose of the single lane roads running the length of the highway? I also see two defunct junctions there.

Thanks for the "brilliant", but i mostly copy what i see others do, or from real life 43.gif

I will try to explain with some very bad paint example.

The extra MIS lane is to minimize congestion in the roundabout.

Bonus is if someone regrets the exit, they can continue eastwards/westwards.

What do you mean by defunct junctions ??

So it's just to help clumsy sims?  I thought it looked a bit odd going on the MIS road when you could just stay on the normal highway.

By defunct, I mean that there are two junctions serving the same purpose, it just makes the interchange look a bit odd.  Thanks for the explanation and "great" paintwork.3.gif

Also, can anyone tell me if "defunct" is a word, or if I've made it up?

@ jim 546

Defunct is a real word. But it means "not functioning" as far as i can tell.

dictionary.reference.com/browse/defunct

And my MIS lanes(parallel to highway) are working, even the sims use it as i intended.

Those coming from the west going north and those coming from east going south are using them.

It keeps the roundabout from clogging up too much.

@ sir_knight

Interesting is just the word 9.gif

A very innovative use of the "highway over roundabout" piece.

(edit:spelling)
