So here is my attempt at y-split highway with a perpendicular highway crossing it or as the picture calls it, the "What in God's name have you gotten yourself into" interchange. I came up with this idea in my CHEM 1A class because I was bored and want to create a challenge for myself. Here is a diagram that shows the basics of it.

Here are few pictures:

If anyone would like to see it fromdifferent angles or have me explain what is goingon I would love to help. Also, any feedback would much appreciated. As a side note, I only I have the RHW from this past winter/spring so I might not have some pieces that could make this more efficent, but I do plan on installing it after I reformat my hard drive and sort out my bats and mods. Anyways, Hope you've enjoyed my interchange.

And here's my attempt at an efficient 6 lane over an 8 lane cloverleaf hybrid type thingy. Here's a basic diagram of it.

0011.jpg

As you might be able to tell from my previous post, I like efficiency. And that means less intrusions by oncoming traffic. So as you can see the green lines represent the uninterrupted highway. This stretch of road goes underground to help clear up space. The same goes with the horizontal black road. Now you can see that oncoming on off going traffic take the red or black vertical routes but do not tough the black horizontal or green route until all oncoming and off going traffic gets sorted out. This allows sims that do not intend to get off the route they are on to continue smoothly with out interruption. Here are some in game pics to show a detailed version of it!

0007.jpg

0008.jpg

0009.jpg

0010.jpg

That is it for the 6 lane over 8 lane cloverleaf hybrid type thingy. I hope you enjoyed it and again, if you have any further questions or ifyou have suggestions do not be afraid to ask or tell me! And good night.

jesuz53, the "What in Gods Name Have You Gotten Yourself Into" modified Y interchange is amazing. I'd hate to get stuck in traffic on that monstrosity!

Lol, that's what I was thinking when I made it. Thanks for thecompliments. I'm hoping the new RHW hassome fixes so I can make it flow better. Thanks again!

Also, amazing interchanges by everyone else! Keep em coming, they give me great ideas for crazy interchanges.

DAMN.. I love everyone's take on their interchanges, but some of these.. my god! 46.gif

jesuz53 type SC4 interchanges almost look not that far off from what i'd imagine an engineer (or whoever) would be looking at on a computer screen designing one of these things in real life.. 4.gif

By the way, is there any idea as to when the new RHW about to come out? This just gave me a lot of inspiration to replow a 6 lane highway into anywhere between an 8 and 10 laner, but don't want to get started on this and have a new RHW come out like what happened to me last time.

SC 4 + CS 1.6 = :]

Jesuz53: Very nice interchanges. You could optimize space use a little, but otherwise, looks great.

dogma555: Same answer as always, when its ready. 3.gif Though we are approaching the time, but you have enough that you can build whatever.

Anyways, just a few more random interchanges from me. Some of these are a tad old and probably have been upgraded/rebuilt.

Not technically an interchange, but its an interesting intersection I have.

emerald_bend-_intersection05.jpg

Tight congested T interchange of sorts. Traffic tends to build up on that OWR offramp.

miloa-_interchange001.jpg

Another T-ish interchange.

First off, thank you dogma, I really appreciate it. I like to try and make em as realistic as possible. As for the new RHW, I know there is one that came out in summer but I was not playing then and I didn't really notice till about a month ago. But at the the rate they seem to be pumping out these updates there might be one for Christmas or January. Who knows. I hope that some day they make it so I can have 4-lane bridges go over 6,8,and 10 lane highways instead of having to split em up for bridge crossings. But I'm perfectly happy with them just even discovering and creating it for free!

Blue Lightning: You should have seen when I was first maing it! It had to be at least double the size, and I wasn't even working on the northern part yet! But yes, I am currently in the works of refunding mytest city and I'm going to try and compact it. Thanks for the tip! I like the off ramp style in your second picture. I keepforgetting I have raised roads, oneway roads, etc. at my disposal! Also, your third picture looks very clean. It's nice. I do want to know how you go twoof the wide turns to come together like that to make the wide S-curve. Mine always end up with a RHW 2-lane between the curves instead of the RHW 4-lane.

Simple, draw the RHW network before you place the curves. Needs some measuring for those tight turns but then you can just plop the curve pieces right on the existing RHW. Be sure not to touch the little bit or else it'll deconvert. And thanks for the compliments! Good luck on your rebuilding. I also tend to forget sometimes all the features. It just goes to show how many there are.

I don't know what to put here anymore.

That dumbell interchange looks like it could do with a free-flowing upgrade of that avenue mainline given those traffic tailbacks xD - maybe into a double-stacked roundabout? I made one like yours pretty much exactly the same way though (I think it's a couple of pages back) Looks good =]

Im going to try to get some of my new good stuff up soon, a long project in the making, and is REALLY cool! Its basically a RHW network, and somewhat long but... More will come!

Yoshi: I tried to attach the street but the roundabout texture went "funny".  I've revised the parcolo because of the heavy traffic:

interchangeredesign.jpg

It's similar to an overpass/interchange near where I live.  If only there were a piece of avenue-overpass-over-roundabout.

Jesus, Xascu, that's a monster. A for effort, but, seriously you should just bulldoze it and put a town in the middle.

Here are some other ideas that me and my friend came up with:

interchange.gif

The double highway is connected to the diagonal highways by a crossbar. Twin cloverleafs (or stacks) over the expressway, Y intersections on the ends.

poopersection2.jpg

My friend made this one - Here, you have a beltway, but the double highways split (neatly if you use RHW) into a beltway entry and a 6 lane expressway through the middle. The grey lines show an overpass with no onramps, all the other 90 degree intersections are T's.

interchange2.gif

In this one I tried to add an express lane for the diagonal highways. There are 4 cloverleafs (or stacks) but it's supposed to reduce bottlenecking if there's a lot of east-west traffic.

Or, you could just dump all the roads into one big belt.

interchange2.gif

This is the actual system used in Washington, DC.

An RHW-6S interchange with a local avenue and road.  The close proximity of the offramps induces weaving, I know, but I tend to focus more on compactness than realism 3.gif

Very cool Cityobserver 4.gif As critique; those weaving distances are exceptionally short, but aside from that looking good

I applaud you for having nice interchanges, and for being a Linux user. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get those highway signs?

Here's a couple more of my creations.

First, a highway cloverleaf with collector/express lanes. For some stupid reason, the RHW won't let me use Style B exit ramps that travel westbound.

highway92cloverleaf.jpg

Since my Parcolo-Roundabout interchange was a hit, I decided to make a similar one. This one's a bit smaller and has a couple OWR's to help prevent commuters from having to make a sharp 135-degree turn.

@asteconn: Thanks for the comments! As you can see, I've updated my post above to include inline images and comments about each individual picture. I was planning to do this immediately after posting, but I couldn't see the post (it's located on page 56, "last unread" points to 55... another page flip bug perhaps?).

Edit: @sir_knight: Those are the Dutch Highway Signs, they can be found at https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=19638 www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm.  Noticed the GTK theme, huh 29.gif
