  1. Low school attendance

First of all, it sounds like your city might be old enough that your sims are well educated. If they are, check uder the education tab under the "views" panel. If your city shows up as green, then you have well educated sims, and don't need to worry as much about education. Second of all, make sure that your bus funding is covering those residential areas. if it's too small then not enough sims will be able to reach you schools! Hope that helped
  2. Yes, the CAM will basically "expand" your city and give it some boosting, so that your game works realistically. However, I do suggest you wait out until the next release comes out, as the CAM 1.0 has a major bug which has been fixed in the beta phase of 2.0, however some of its effects remain even with the 2.0 installed. The thing I am talking about is that the doubled regional residential capacity doesn't go away, and you can only fix it by superseding it with your actual population, in 2.0. the doubled workforce also goes away, as there is a new method for installing, and we are concocting up something very nice for the community *wink, wink*

The RHW goes next, then the NWM, however I am not too sure, so a NAM expert will proabably correct me on this. As for the red pointer problem, there is a section in the NAM readme nad FAQ about that, so read that. I think they give links to posts where you can find out more info.
  4. Growth Trouble

Also, you may even zone an area in pause, with parks, bus stops, civics, road etc. All that they need is there, and you have demand. However, it still might stagnate, or grow very slowly. The solution to this is of course to place a park, while the game is running and this will usually solve it. This is a solution if you ever find yourself wondering why they won't grow even if you gave them everything. I think it has something to do with the fact that the simulator doesn't "see" what you have done, and so doesn't take into account what happened, until you do something near there while it is running.
  5. Oh, I don't usually like tearing out pieces of my beautiful city, except for abandoned lots, as I have far too many skyscrapers to bulldoze! Although, I must say I have caused unintentional mass abandonment in one of my cities. What happened was that I had a city of about 30K and they were all commuting to one industrial city. It was in it's early years, so commercial didn't have much demand. I thought that two avenue connections would do it. Which they did. In excess. My advisor guy was screaming his head off, however that didn't bother me too much. I then saw that for future development, I would need a highway. I proceeded to build a EL-RHW4 around the north side of my city (the south side was already taken up by buildings, and money was precious then) with intersections and it was all very nice. I had to demolish maybe 5 buildings to get what I wanted. I made neighbour connections to the industrial city; made a RHW4 in the industrial city and waited. Nothing happened. So in a fit of rage, or to make my sims use the highway, I demolished my avenue connections, and let the game runs for a few months, saved and went to the region. Did the same in the industrial city. Mass abandonment occurred as they couldn't get to work. I lost about 10K in residents, or 1/3 of my Pop! However, this was a good thing, as the reconnected avenues allowed traffic and new development of skyscrapers in a new heart of high density city occurred. Without it, my city would have most likely stagnated!
  6. I have achieved cities of 600k on a medium tile without plopping, because in those day I had nothing to plop with! I did use the CAM however, so I don't know if you would say that is a demand creator, which it isn't really. I am currently working on a large city tile and have gotten the pop up to 500K, however I am planing to get to 1mil at least. Oh, and it's also easy to make so much money. 2 mil simoleans and counting XD
  7. Readl ID- Peoples Real Names in Forum posts

Yeah, this is not good at all. I read that they are legally allowed to do this as it is "billing info" but still. Without the consent of users, it is still wrong. I have a Facebook account, but also because it was my friends who wanted me on there. I have turned my privacy settings up, and I only update my status like 3 times. A year. I tend not to share my personal info with everyone. I also limit what goes online, and I don't let people tag me generally. I might let a few innocuous pics go through but that's it. I also changed my settings so that only I can see them.
  8. Rich sims LOVE subways and monorail. Probably because it's so fast and "high-tech". Also, are you referring to the building occupancy when you click the query button on it? If so, you may not be getting the full picture. You see, a low wealth building will only employ low wealth sims. A medium wealth building will employ to a greater extent medium welath sims, and to a lesser extent low wealth sims. A High wealth building will employ High wealth sims to a greater extent, then medium in lesser numbers and low in even less numbers. I hope that would solve your question? Also, a high wealth building will accept medium wealth citizens as high wealth if they have enough EQ, about 160 AFAIK.

Nam files and their plugin files as well! This mean RHW, SAM, CANAM (although that was included in the one release) and all of those that you find in the Network Addon Mod folder.

You have reached the building capacity for farms. In order to get more farms, you'll have to download RippleJet's Census repository, which I think you can find on the STEX, but it is definitely in the LEX. The census repository vault will provide cap relief.
  11. phantom city

Before you delete it, make sure it wasn't an important city (ie, it was totally residential) and that any of the zones in there are put into neighbouring cities while it still exists. then take the fresh city from your program files one and import it over that other one...

Many people have Macs, I don't have either, and I won't ever go back to paying for operating software as the very idea is obscene. We could go to something less portable than Java, if you like, but it has to run everywhere. This probably means abandoning DirectX for Open GL, and not playing with all the lockin tools in .NET. Maybe the best implementation language would be BCPL, since it can be put up on almost any machine in about a month. But it is more like an assembler than a high-level language. If you want OOD and OOP, then I think Java is the way to fly. EDIT: And you did want a multi-tasked structure, didn't you? quote> Hmm, ok. Good points raised there. I concede. However, i was thinking along the lines of a Win Release, and of course there would have to be a Mac/Linux release as well. I do own windows, and although I have some problems with it, I know how to make it behave. There would have to be separate releases, but would a patch for a Win PC written in Java be able to be patched into whatever Mac's version of an exe is? i fso then one patch release would be fantastic!

I think that Wright and Co. left with such angst, especially after the fiasco with Spore, that wild horses and a presidential order couldn't get him back under EA's roof.quote> Oh for sure. We have so many teams and the modding community is so large with so many experienced users that we could overhaul SC4 completely! Of course you could get a copy of their source and do your own damage.quote> Exactly my line of thinking. I think that in order for EA to co-operate with su fully, they would say that you have to buy the game legally (they make their profit) and then do as you see fit. We would of course have to be careful to not include any code that allowed the exe to be run w/o the CD. EA would have a fit! Originally posted by: A Nonny Moose I don't think this old code can be salvaged short of a complete re-write in something modern like Java or C++. Java would be nice because it could then run in a browser, and, gasp!, maybe be networked with multiple players. This will take a lot of effort and some donations are probably in order should that come about. Think of all the fun you could have as the City Planner guy. The multiple characters are there, and not everyone can be Mayor. On the other hand, what about playing multiple tiles to create one huge metropolis with each player running his own tile in co-operation with other players. Neighbor deals would be negotiations, eh?quote> Oooh, don't get me excited. C++ would be better, as it would integrate more easily with the windows shell. Many of them are special purpose for the person who created them to complete a CJ or some other thing. Others have little idiosyncracies that can lead you astray. Wurra, wurra. What to choose? I feel like a kid with a credit card in a candy store. quote> Well, all I can say is that keep a theme in mind about what to choose! At least you proabably have unlimited internet to DL as much as you want, I can only move up to 5Gb a month ! Hopefully that will change soon with uncapped internet prices coming down even more in South Africa .
  14. Annoying lines in-game

Also, your GFX card could be a problem. If it's made quite recently, it will have anti-aliasing turned on under your card's default properties. Turn off anti-aliasing in your card's settings, as SC4 is too old to support anti-aliasing. Also, if you are running a custom resolution (by specifying that in the command line of the shortcut) that may also cause problems. Try running it in windowed mode if the former doesn't help. Originally posted by: A Nonny Moose IThis is a bug, but bug fixes left EA with Will Wright. quote> Until maxis releases the .exe to the community to fix !
  15. If the CD is ok, you can just copy everything across. I'm not too sure where the "program Files" of XP equivalent is in win7, but it should go there, into a path similar to this: */Maxis/Simcity 4/* Look at the file filelist.txt on either the first or second disc. That will give you all the files you need to copy across. However, one problem with this is that you won't have registry keys that will allow you to update the game and use some external programs.
