I have a new interchange to show today. This one evolved out of an 'urban trumpet' idea:

trumpet01it1.jpg

Then I decided to loose the loop ramp and connect it with the other RHW via a tunnel:

trumpet02rk4.jpg

And here it is:

urbanisjun6701208171719mn9.jpg

I'll be testing it in urban areas later. If you have only a small strip to build an interchange on, this one is perfect.

Please post comments and/or suggestions.

Patricius Maximus: That's an interesting concept. I believe your edited "loop" will help traffic flow (the merging is more gradual and can be extended if needed - at the top). I am not so sure about space though; it almost seems like the traditional trumpet would save more space, which is handy in urban areas.

Patricuis Maximus: That does cut a lot of space of the old one but... I think it is easier to have a highway interchange for the amount of space but I will say... It is GREAT for rural and suburban areas.

Dublineau when it was only a small industrial town of 3 500:

    DUB-800x600-005.jpg

A sudden residential demand increases population to 90 000 in 60 years. The new residential area has this exit as its main motorway entrance:

    DUB-800x600-003.jpg

An HOV bypass is needed so that buses may continue straight to downtown on the avenues, while cars are forced to use the motorway exits:

    DUB-800x600-002.jpg

The new business area on the edge of Dublieau; will line nicely up with the neighbour when they finish their new boroughs. Accesible via motorway, buses and commuter trains.

    DUB-800x600-001.jpg

The entire city, with the new area in top lef corner, main residential area in the middle, downtown at top and the harbour / industrial park at top right corner:

    DUB-800x600-004.jpg

The bypass and the downtown exit are prime examples of a motorway planning out of control; however it is utterly necessary when a downtown transportation system designed for 30-50 000 are being used to channel 20-25 000 commuters out on the main avenues, and turn into complete chaos.

Yoshiisland: Awesome colverleaf! You even have lakes in the loops, that counts for bonus points, if there was such a thing! 3.gif

krbe: Wow, amazing pics and story! I never knew you had such good interchanges!  44.gif

-One thing I see though: in the third picture near the overpass, the RHW has a 3-laned "Stub" going from the transfer to the bridge. If you simply click on this area with the RHW tool, that should go away. If not, redraw the area with the RHW tool and it should revert to a RHW-4.

    Keep Showing Us Your Interchanges!

Yeah, and me that really prefers trains 3.gif I was actually going to build a crappy airport on the nigbouring tile, but it wasn't that realistic that an airport in a big city doesn't disturb people, so I'll have to do the suburbs around first—including the motorway that'll lead to the airport.

Does everyone get the purple line on the lowest road in the first pic? Yep, that's right, they walk four kilometres to work each day—in SimCity! 6.gif

By the way, hal: Get some constructions on your pics, so it seems more lif like! If you can't wait, throw in some of the construction lots Andreas has made, so it looks more City and less Si m3.gif

You might have to hand me three. 6.gif

There's just so much going on. Nice integration of RHW, GHW, and Big Dig pieces.

Interesting, ryanb. Not terribly realistic (some of the ramps need improvement) but still it looks pretty darn good.

ryanb_sc4: Wow, that thing is huge!  A few comments:

-The roads are very spaced out.  I think it would look a little better if you either had a median or put the centre RHW side-by-side.

-Just before all the Big Dig tunnels, you have extremely tight 180 degree turns.  It would look much better if you curved this thing out.  Truck rollovers would be a everyday occurrence on this ramp!

-Using the Big Dig lots takes the UDI aspect away from this monster.  I am sure you know that, but wouldn't you like to drive through this huge thing?  I know I would!   Wink

-At many parts in the interchange, you have two roads branch out at the same tile.  You clearly have room there to have one road connect at one point, and the other where it currently is.  (Just before the four Big Dig entrances/exits on the outlaying roads)

-And one thing that has always puzzled me.  In your two avenue underpasses at the top/bottom of the image, what are the one-way roads beside them used for?  I have seen them in a lot of interchanges, but I still haven't figured out its purpose.

While I am here allow me to show off my first Parclo Interchange using the Multi-RHW setup.

That was a pain to make.  Once the surrounding area develops it will get quite a lot of usage!

Also, the MIS/OWR transitions will be fixed in version 21, and hopefully those weird textures by the ramps will be fixed too!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

Yes, Haljackey. Those textures by the ramps sure are wierd. I find that some beautification covers them up.

And -- here it is. The space-saving trumpet:

    66009035gw5.jpg

If an avenue meets an RHW downtown and you want it to end, this is the way to do it. This interchange in North Lebanon was built when 20,000 commuters were trekking South, on an avenue, and an upgrade was needed.

Below you can see an urban parclo variant. The one way road that shoots up to the north eventually makes a turn to the west to serve evening commuters.

Now, that's better hal! Though those lights of yours...3.gif However, you might like to let the road go under the railway instead, or have some loooooong slopes and let the railway run under. Or even possibly in a grave.

I'm sorry about the double post but the edit button isn't working.

Here is a standard avenue avenue interchange:

    The quality is pretty bad.

All of you have some good interchanges for some purposes. I'll be showing more of mine in a couple days. In the meantime, we'll all be looking forward to seeing some more 44.gif

The_Hutt: I like that a lot! Only thing is I'd the bit on the actual T so it flows straight instead of through a little chicane type thing =).
