Wrong. Using low res image for proportions is pointless. You +/- woudl be so huge that it invalidates the entire process.

You would be much better of to use that Google Earth image to measure overall dimentions and them with the use of high/higher res images work out all the proportions from those numbers.

Oh I love those "mysteries". Only thing missing is "somehow".

Ok let's look at this closer. What exactly this "messed up" mean? Do you wanna say that you make building say 50 m tall and once you imported 3ds (I assume) to GMAX it is suddenly 30 or 80 m tall? If not what is exactly "messed up"

Also what does " I use meters and real life heights and that" mean? Particularly "that". Cause it must be it, does it not?

Moving along... what does "It appears shorter in gmax" mean? Is it shorter? or does it just "appear" so?

when I keep the height scale to like a real life person's height of about 1.5 meters. So, to help prevent this problem, how tall would the average SIM be? So I can get the heights right. Like around 2 to 2.5 meters?quote>

May be cause real person like not 1,5 m tall... Where did you come up with this number from? Also how does it relate to actual floor height? Without understanding this relations you wouldn't get it right (barring an accident) even if you would know exactly the height of the sim (3,5-3,8 m btw) cause that number is somewhat irrelevant. Buildings wouldn't be scaled to this height (proportionally in relation to the actual average person height in real world)

So in stead of doing all that voodoo you better off to simply understand the structure of buildings, and measure some real life sizes while you at it.

These should be your guides, not sim height - that may be applicable for special designs for the ground floor elements, and even then not necessarily the ideal choice - those numbers in actual pixels are so small and field(scope) of actual influence is very small too. They are clearly distorted way beyond the other prevailing distortions of the game. So I would say for a time being till you are really comfortable with scaling and can do it intuitively you better forget about it. Just use real life dimensions and apply to them same tired all vertical scaling that had been talked about to death by now. Namely 1,33 coefficient that would restore true isometric proportions eg making cube appear to be cube.

And no, I'm not trying to put you down. I'm simply trying to explain to you where you real mistakes lies. Real, not your imaginary (like program compatibilities, or lack of knowledge of the true Sim height) problems and shortcomings.

Cause if you keep thinking the way you do you'll make similar (albeit not exactly same) mistake all over again simply with new set of numbers.

So I started on the Pre-911 WTC7. Still working on basic shapes and getting the proportions right. I'm going to fix the night lighting rig and work on some more stuff. Not much of a progress pic, just felt like showing that I'm actually doing something.3.gif

Jeeze, this isn't the BAT request thread you know!

I find it rude when people only come in to ask for things, not actually contribute.

Brandon, Looks like a good start, but you got a long way to go kid 2.gif

Yea, I do have along way to go with this one Todd. 3.gif Speaking of which, how do you change the gmax lighting rig? I never had to do it before with previous BATs.

Hey!!!!  whats up guys?

Its been a while but I'm hoping I can at least finish up the last BAT I was working on.  Speaking of which:

midtownmanhattanmar4524.png

midtownmanhattanapr7524.png

Does anyone have a good glass texture that I could borrow?  I don't have time to, or any experience with making textures, but I'd like to release the BAT soon.

Nice work PBG! And good to see you back! I actually have a glass texture, but I'm not sure how it would look on that building, you might have to darken it or just change the color, but it might work if you want it.

I forgot you were making the Mutual of America Building, still have a place holder for it. Here's two dark glass textures which would fit the type of glass on the building in RL:

Glass texture 1

Glass texture 2

Hope that helps and looking forward to the building.

Please just stop. I can't believe you won't take a hint here, but either go to the BAT Request Thread or don't post here again unless you're commenting on the works of NYBT. And I don't know where you're geting 22 Cortlandt(that's how you really spell it BTW) Street from, but I NEVER FINISHED THAT BAT SO HOW WILL I EVER "RE-UPLOAD" IT???? I'm sorry to be rude but come on! You've posted here non-stop for your greedy want of old BATs! But I'm sorry to be rude and mean but....geez...

Oh um...now I feel like a jerk...15.gif But I guess something needed to be said...

You aren't being rude, he has been asked numerous times to stop making such frivolous requests. I'm glad you did because I was about to (and this is not my thread).

Personally, I find it annoying when all people do is come into a thread and request things from you...

Sgt pepper, there is not any doubt that you've done the right thing and you don't have to feel a jerk for that.

Honestly i was just wondering about how much you could bear that.

I with some other people asked him to stop, but no to avail....hope it will listen now.

I m sad for the Bank Of America tower.  And thanks hanson for the initiative of creating it on Turbo G Max.

Let me introduce you the Saint Patrick Cathedral. It needs some more improvement, but you can see the general view...

ZJRuddock: I see what you did there.

When you hit the reply button, there is a icon at the top of the window called "insert/edit image" it is right next to the little imageshack frog and the youtube icon.

As for your BAT, looking good? Did you model that whole thing, almost looks google warehouse, if not I'm impressed. I can't really say what needs work until you show us a render of it, not just a viewport shot. Do us a favor and make it a HQ render and save the screenshot as a PNG so that it retains it's quality.

Best of luck,

-Todd

Dear Geometry,

NO WE ARE NOT GOING TO LET ANYBODY UPLOAD THOSE BATS TO...MEGAUPLOAD...? PLEASE JUST STOP MAKING REQUESTS LIKE THIS AND QUIT BOTHERING US FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF THOSE BATS. UNFORTUNATELY NON OF THOSE BATS WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER BE REUPLOADED. I DO, HOWEVER, PLAN TO DO A RE-DO OF 85 WEST STREET FOR NYBT, SO I HOPE THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. 33 THOMAS STREET WAS TECHNICALLY TRUELY NEVER BATED. THE ONE I DID WAS JUST A "BASED-ON" VERSION NOT INTENDED FOR ACCURACY. 599 LEXINGTON WAS MADE BY A FORMER NYBT MEMBER THAT WAS BANNED FROM HERE AND THE BAT WAS REMOVED FROM THE EXCHANGE. HIS BAT OF 599 LEXINGTON WILL NEVER BE UPLOADED BECAUSE WE CANT OBTAIN PERMISSION TO REUPLOAD IT NOR WILL HE EVER LET US IF WE COULD GET PERMISSION. NOW PLEASE STOP THIS NOW AND LEAVE US ALONE PLEASE. STOP. NO MORE REQUESTS. DO NOT POST HERE AGAIN UNLESS YOU WANT TO COMMENT ON THE WORK HERE, NOT TO REQUEST A BATS. YOU HAVE FILLED SOME PAGES SO FAR WITH REQUESTS OF THESE BATS. THATS ALL YOU DID. NOW STOP. PLEASE.

Ok, I think it's time for a few words from the site moderation.

I've been watching this for a while to check out how the repeated requests would be handled - you never know how people will react.

However, in this case it has been made more than clear that you are bothering and annoying the team, Geometry. They have now had to tell you various times, so there shouldn't really be the slightest doubt that your constant requests are not welcome.

Any SC4 community relies on people who contribute - some do so by making maps, BATs, mods, tutorials, whatever. Others make their contribution through useful and helpful comments and suggestions, by reporting and pointing out problems, by providing photos and references, and by giving encouragement.

This creates a community that can share its common enthusiasm for the game in a positive and productive atmosphere, sticking together, helping each other out, and occasionally simply patting each other's shoulder in a gesture of encouragement. Of course, asking for help and helping out others is also an important part of the experience.

However, in order to protect this community, we need to make sure that its members feel good and at home here and don't get frustrated or wander off to other places.

Much content and knowledge is given here, and it's given freely and generously. Some gratitude, respect and recognition is all that's asked in return - a simple "thank you" can go a long way. When somebody doesn't bother posting much and only demands more and more, though,  this throws the community spirit out of balance. Such behaviour will, in the long run, be perceived as pushy, annoying and disrespectful. It's simply asking too much ("gimme, gimme, gimme!") and giving too little in return. This does not contribute to the community, but rather takes away from it.

Hence we are forced to step inbetween occasionally and make sure that the contributors to this community (in whichever way they contribute) can work in peace. Now is such a moment.

Geometry, you can ask for BATs to be made, or for reuploads. Although we have an official BAT request thread, nobody will rip off your head when you are interested in the work of a particular team and make a request in their thread - however, if nobody reacts or if anybody tells you that they don't feel inclined to fulfil your request, then please accept that. You haven't employed any of the people here. All they do is a favour to anyone who likes the stuff they made. You can ask for a favour, but you cannot demand it - and repeated asking even when you don't receive a positive answer is like demanding.

You have had more than enough occasions to make clear what you would like to have, and you have been given more than enough chances to accept the fact that this time you won't be lucky. I'd like this to be the last one you need, ok? Should it become necessary, we have other means to ensure that nobody feels annoyed. I don't want to resort to them, to be honest, but sometimes we have to.

So please give those NYBT guys a break and refrain from further requests. You have been given the answer several times. Now it's time live with it and move on.

Guys, you're doing marvelous job here. Hanson, flatiron looks promising, especialy it's not easy to make it really well in SC 4.gif

Sorry guys for my long absence and inactivity. I'm working on World Exposition buildings and i'll be very busy with it until end of June. I hope I'll be able to return to work on Bethesta Terrace, Everett Building and Farley Post Office mid-July.

And just a few words to Geometry: Equitable Building? Woolworth Building? I'm afraid you need some more time as you're not able to even make night lighting yet (not to mention gargoyles).

"Is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud monuments, until there will be nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children? If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters. Maybe… this is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes." - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
