BAT Request Thread

Use this thread to request BATs.  BAT requests are not permitted anywhere else on Simtropolis.  Please read the other requests in this thread before making your own requests, to ensure that your requests haven't already been requested (say that 5 times fast).

Formatting:

Use the following format when posting requests.  An example is shown in the next post, which you can copy and paste to help you get the text formatting.

This format will help you clearly and concisely communicate your request, which will make it easier for BATers to browse this thread.  BATers are resourceful, but you'll need to provide enough information to help get them started.  Provide as much useful information as possible, however, in order to preserve conciseness, use links instead of reposting all of the information in this thread.

My example request is shorter than yours may be, but your request shouldn't be any longer than a few paragraphs total.

Old BAT Request Threads:

With Simtropolis 6.0 comes the elimination of the dreaded page flip bug, a bug in the forum software which caused browsing difficulty in long threads, including the old BAT Request Thread.  Threads created in Simtropolis 6.0 do not suffer from the page flip bug, and so a new BAT Request Thread is born.

Also, like all of the BAT Request Threads, the last one quickly became a jumbled mess, intimidating, and hard to navigate.  To avoid that, this time we'll try using a standardized format, which may improve browsability and encourage BATers to look through this thread for ideas more often.

Title of Request (Heading 2)

ONE image of your request (required).  The image must be 800 x 600 pixels or smaller (but try to use as small of an image as possible while still properly displaying the building).

Links to other images (optional)

Description: (Bold)

Write a short description of what you're requesting. (required)

Links to informational websites (reccommended).  Links to wikipedia, emporis.com, skyscraperpage.com, Local Live, Google Maps, and flickr.com are especially useful.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community: (Bold)

Write a short explanation of why you think this would be good for the game or for the community.  Here you make your case for why a BATer should BAT your request. (required)

Please note that general BAT requests not relating to one particular building or structure can be made in this thread.

    Apple Store

View from above, showing the interior

    Description:

This is the most iconic of the Apple Stores.  This one is located in midtown Manhattan.

    Local Live

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

Fans of Apple products would enjoy this, and it would help fulfill the need for CS§§§ lots in the game.  It could also serve as a test subject for exploring new BATing methods, related to glass materials and in-game transparency.

    Albertsons/Sav-on

    Description:

An Albertsons grocery store. Something similar to www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm would be nice.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albertsons_LLC

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

It would give variety to the number of supermarkets available, and give more realism for people recreating cities in SC4.

    University 3-pak

    275003011_87f31ccc34.jpg?v=0

    Description:

3 mega packs including many UNIQUE buildings, not maxis buildings slapped on lots.

Pack one- Historic University- this pack would have buildings like the one above, and old Harvard/Yale type

                       buildings

Pack two- Modern University- This pack would include large, modern buildings with glass and metal walls

Pack three- Dorm Pack- this pack would include different dormitories from both styles and large towers, and small

                          village-type dorms

Why this would benifit the community:

These packs would be helpful in creating  a realistic university, which is basically impossible right now.

bluemoose, are you suggesting a university that can be built one building at a time, like some airport packs on the STEX? I sort of assume that with the keyword "pack", but just checking in case. What buildings would you suggest? A library, study halls? The main university building? Obviously classrooms, but how many specific kinds? Could you be more specific on specific buildings of what you'd like to see in the university pack?

    Description:

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

There are few art decò highrises on the stex, and among them only a few are residential .It would look great as a stage 6-7 high-wealth residential highrise.Besides, given it's design, it would be a great  gift to the community and a wonderful addition to any city.

    Toronto "Bay and Gable" houses

    baygable1.jpg

    Sample photos

    Description:

Bay and gable houses are an integral part of Toronto's Victorian, residential vernacular landscape. There are probably hundreds, or perhaps thousands of houses like these in Toronto's older inner city, encompassing several variations (including detached, semi-detached and row-homes). The following wikipedia article sums up the architectural style quite nicely:

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay-and-gable

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

Overall, the variety of low-density residential lots in the game still leaves much to be desired, so hopefully this could help to diversify the housing stock. The style is extremely versatile; for example, you could have run-down rowhomes with modest little yards to complement R$ neighbourhoods and beautifully preserved houses with manicured lawns and various ornamental doo-dads and pippy-poos for higher wealth areas. Other variations include colour of the bargeboards, window trimming and/or rooftiles, style of porch, and left/right-handed versions. I can snap some better photos of examples around my neighbourhood if anyone is interested in taking on this project. Thanks in advance!

    Hammons Tower

    Description:

The tallest Building in Springfield, MO.  This 22 Story building is in the downtown area across from Hammons Field.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

This building would add to the relatively few midrise office towers for SC4.  It would also add a nice piece of Springfield to the game.  I also find this building to be visually interesting.

The next tallest all residential skyscraper. (by pinacle height.)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentominium

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

For those who want to have the tallest all residential tower, or recreate the city of Dubai, or those who just want to have a tall tower, or those BATters who want something challenging. Make it a 4x4 residence tower, a landmark, with nightlights.

    Ecoducts

    frontpagepic.jpg

    More images | 1 2

    Description:

Ecoducts are over- and underpasses for wildlife. The difference from regular overpasses is that the base is made up of greenery. In SC4, it could simply serve as a park/eyecandy lot, which improves the environmental parameter. Ecoducts are gaining increasing prevalence in the realm of transportation. And come in all kinds of shapes and forms, from small tunnels for frogs and the likes, to the overpass showed in the image, or more complex place-specific ecoducts that can cross several types of transit networks. For SC4 purposes, it is the larger type usable not least outside urban areas that is most relevant.

All ecoducts serve to decrease the impact of fragmentation of wild biosphere, by enabling movement between areas inhabited by such. Fragmentation can cause an array of problems from limiting animals that need large areas of space, to separating populations from others of their kin in numbers so that inbreeding can be a danger. Ecoducts cannot deal with the bigger issue of generally decreasing areas for biosphere, but it can play an important part in lessening the impact from specific communication constructions. It also lessens the frequency of wildlife-vechicle collisions, increasing safety on both parts. It is an additonal factor to use in the development of new communications, to minimize such consequences and impact on surroundings.

    Also see http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=610624

    And http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildlife_crossing

Jaeger, et al., (2005) identify four ways that roads and traffic detrimentally impact wildlife populations: (1) they decrease habitat amount and quality, (2) they increase mortality due to wildlife-vehicle collisions (road kill), (3) they prevent access to resources on the other side of the road, and (4) they subdivide wildlife populations into smaller and more vulnerable subpopulations (fragmentation).

The first three impacts (loss of habitat, road kill, and isolation from resources) exert pressure on various animal populations by reducing available resources and directly killing individuals in a population. For instance, Bennet (1991) found that road kills do not pose a significant threat to healthy populations but can be devastating to small, shrinking, or threatened populations. Road mortality has significantly impacted a number of prominent species in the United States, including white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), Florida panthers (Puma concolor coryi), and black bears (Ursus americanus) (Clevenger, et al., 2001). In addition, habitat loss can be direct, if habitat is destroyed to make room for a road, or indirect, if habitat quality close to roads is compromised due to emissions from the roads (e.g. noise, light, runoff, pollution, etc.) (Jaeger et al., 2005). Finally, species that are unable to migrate across roads to reach resources such as food, shelter and mates will experience reduced reproductive and survival rates, which can compromise population viability (Noss et al., 1996).

    quote>

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

Ecoducts would add a new dimension to the transportation features available in SC4. It would make possible to smoother blend in for example motorways with the landscape and areas they are going through. Nothing of the sort is available for SC4 as of now, whatsoever, there is no replacement. So it would add something completely new. Sort of like the Skyfarms did when they came.

    Palace of Soviets

    Palace_of_the_soviets_(1931).jpg

A building that construction began on in the 1930's in the Soviet Union.  It was set to become the tallest building in the world, standing at 415 meters.  However, after World War II, construction was cancelled.  I personally have no idea how to use the BAT, but I would love to have this in my city.

I would preferably be 10 x 10.  Texture would be the most important part.  The statue is 100 meters tall, but it could be an enlarged male mayor's statue (If it's possible to enlarge statues).

Palace of Soviets - Wikipedia Page

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Sisters_(Moscow)- The texture would be similar to the appearance of these buildings.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

It's simply an amazing piece of architecture.  It's truly a shame it wasn't built, because it's so different from any supertall structure built.

    Description:

The Orion VII NG is the flagship product of Orion International (previously known as Orion Bus Industries). It features a highly modern, sleek design that can fit into both European and North American style cities. The skin shown is used by Sacramento Regional Transit and uses clean, compressed natural gas for fuel.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

There's an obvious dearth of good city bus designs and skins on the STEX. Most resemble ugly boxes, at best. There ought to be at least some demand for some better buses.

    Plopable University

Since I did not see a reply to your questions I will answer for BlueMoose.

I would like to have a plopable university. One that you can build one building at a time. You could start out as a small liberal arts college and then grow from there into a major university. With the addition of each building the student population could grow? I'm not sure if that's a possibility or not, if it can't be a functional university that's fine, a nice visually pleasing one would still be nice.

    This is what I want:

Dorms: 8 different ones, each in the same Architectural style.

    Administration Building

A building for each of the following colleges:

    Architecture and Design

    Agriculture

Arts and Sciences (6 different buildings, most schools have several for each school within this college)

    Business

    Communication

    Education

    Engineering

    Journalism

    Law

    Nursing

    Medicine

    Music

    Public Health

    Pharmacy

Those are just some examples of colleges that some universities might have, there are plenty of others that are out there. At my school we have a medical campus that includes a hospital and all of the medical related colleges.

    At least one library

    A student center

    Performing arts center

Perhaps a Football stadium that is designed for the University and fits in Architecturally with the rest of campus. Other athletic facilities, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer.

This may be too much work, but possibly each building already listed could have alternates that are larger. Most buildings at my school are remodeled and expanded. So you could have the Admin building and then a few larger variants to show the school growing?

And last but not least, maybe some greek housing to finish the school.

I have listed 30 different buildings, not including the athletic facilities or the possible variants of each building, or the greek houses.

If I were to include those the total would be 132, including 4 variants of all buildings, as well as a football stadium, a basketball arena, and a baseball field. You could easily do other sports as well.

If you have any other questions fill free to ask me. I can elaborate. I didn't provide specific schools for examples just because I didn't want to show favoritism towards any one school. Plus I don't think there's any one university that's perfect, including my own.

Let me just say this: I'll see what I can do. I started this project a month or two ago, but it ran out of steam. But if there's interest, I'll get started again. I'm not the greatest BAT-er, but I can make an okay model (depending on the size) in a total of 8-10 hours.

Let's see, I'm the copyboy at TCUMass for about an hour each weekday, and I get to spend the rest of the time on the computer. If I'm there from 9:00-1:00 every weekday, I can make a model every two days.

    Doesn't sound too bad.

As my signature says, I'm open to any BAT ideas.

I would assume that many people would enjoy having a more realistic university in their cities. The current one is just too small in scale and doesn't fit in well in any city with a piece that large. Since there are plenty of people out there who have massive custom airports, it doesn't seem too far of a stretch to say they would also enjoy custom schools.

I would like to first request a library for the university. The William T. Young Library at Kentucky is a nice one.

Click me!   I'm thinking it could/should be a 6*6 tile? But you decide since you're the one creating this, thanks in advance!

    Description:

I am requestina disc golf course. I posted a picture of an overview of Johnny Roberts Memorial Park, here in Denver CO. My apologies the image maybe slightly larger, I couldn't figure out how to resize it.

I included a link to the website with course maps and images of each hole.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

I think this would be beneficial to the game to add a realistic element to a neighborhood. If done right it would like great. Unfortunately I am not good with making custom content. The park itself has lots of water its hard to tell, but it does so with the trees and a creek or water,  if done right would look really good.
