A quick update, here's the basic modelling completed on 3 WTC. I've also included a pic showing how it looks with the rest of the complex. Let me know your thoughts.

Nice! I love the work you have done with the WTC complex. Will you also have the transport hub? I saw one before and it actually worked as a subway station.

Thanks for all the comments everyone.

@Eric77lv - Yes the transit hub will be included, hopefully I will start work on that in the comming weeks.

This next update shows the completion of the exterior walls with basic textures and windows installed. the base and roof still need some work and the night lights are yet to be added.

Whilst creating the building, I was looking for some new images of the tower and found out that last week the design was officially changed on the 21st of June 2011. The x-braces on the front and back have been removed and the diagonal braces have been altered. In addition, the base has been altered along with some of the extruded wall sections. The first two images show the old and new designs of the tower.

Here's the screenshots showing the old design and new in the BAT model. The model that will be progressing for use in the final compex will be the new design not the old one.

As mentioned previously, i will soon be moving onto max with the WTC complex being officially my last ever gmax project. But before i can move onto max, i need to learn more about how to use it. If anyone has any tutorials on reflections and night lighting in max would it be possible to provide me with a link or some tips on how to do it. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks, and let me know what you think on 3WTC's progress so far.

I like old design better, but must admit that your model with new design looks better than your model with old design. I'm really looking forward to seeing. Check out JasonCW's tutorial in his thread here on open discussion forum.

The 4 poles at the top of the new design look shorter than in the older design... if you want to be 100% you might want to change that before exporting.

    Awww that's so disappointing!!! D:

I like the one's with the huge cross bars along the tower. I have been recreating the complex myself behind closed doors, this is an older render... but this is the only one I'm releasing to the public of the WTC 3.

    23haha8.png

I personally think that you should create the cross bars Nycc06! It would loook soooo much more nicer! Great job btw! you should really introduce those buildings into Max! :D

Also, another thing about the complex... If you want to transit enable the roads for Simcity 4... You're going to have to keep those roads in the middle of your model EMPTY! Why!? This way in the lot editor you could transit enable them. And most of the roads are straight except the road in between WTC 4, WTC 3, The transit Hub, and the Memorial Park. I HIGLY recommend putting that road to an angle of 17.4 Degrees. I'm unsure if you're familiar with the NAM. They do have a "FAR" add-on and that is usually enabled at 17.4 degrees, Download the NAM and notice the angle of the FAR add-on pieces coincide with the angle of the road in the model! It's an interesting find that I noticed while I re-created the WTC complex too! Although I don't have enough memory to render it, I've been improving on it everyday and it's slowly becoming a masterpiece! :D

So good luck with your model Nycc06, We've been working on our towers for a full good year now. You'll definitely finish before me, but Nice Guys Finish Last! ;D

    I'm kidding! :b

Great job Nycc06, Keep it up! :D

Hey guys, sorry I haven't updated in a while. Here's the latest renders for the 3WTC project. Let me know your thoughts before I start the export, thanks.

    dayfinal.jpgnightfinal.jpg

@kellydale2003- I'm looking forward to your wtc complex in the future and thanks for the commment on my work. As far as making the complex transit enabled, I haven't quite got that far yet, but i was considering usnig the FAR roads, I'll have to look into that in the future.

Overall night lights are looking good - a few observations:

    • The light cones on the "terrace" are too intense; ideally the light should appear somewhat more hazy and diffused.
    • The same goes for the lobby lighting. What you're going for is interior room lighting that shines through the windows, not stadium floodlights pointed at the sidewalk from the inside of the lobby.
    • When you light up a window at the edge of the building, make sure that you also light the window directly around the corner, as it will belong to the same room.

I can only agree with T Wrecks. The blue lights at the top of the tower seem more like a very bright texture instead of lights. And maybe add a airplane beacon on the top of those antennaes? Id hate to be flying near those at night >.< it looks very good though. I have been following this one, and I must say I am impressed with the overall structure. Just work on the lighting and youll be good to go!

First of all, thanks for the comments.

@T Wrecks- I have lowered the intensity of the lights in the lobby, which i think now looks a bit better. Also, the lights on the terrace have been altered to contain a higher decay level so that the light is less intense and fades towards the edges. As far as the corner windows go, the problem with the night map texture is that it has occasional dark patches which give the impression that the window is not lit, however, all windows on the corners are linked together and should light up the same.

@Wallacet- I have decreased the lighting intensity of the roof wall lights and have now included airplane warning lights as a finishing touch despite the fact they don't show up very well in this image. .

Here's the new night render. I will be exporting the base section tonight as all of the testing has now been finished and it seems to be working fine.

Hey guys, another update on the WTC project. Three WTC is finsihed and will be uploaded to the stex later today. As for the rest of the complex, here's some images showing progress on the transit hub, which will be released as a stand alone BAT as well as within the main complex. Anyway your thoughts are welcome.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Good news, 3 WTC is now online.

@Jack_wilds- I got the images of 3wtc from (www.wtc.com) under 3 world trade center in the architecture section. If you look around the site, you'll also find some images of the rest of the WTC complex and the transit hub.

New update everyone, new pics of the completed WTC Transit Hub. Should be online within a few days as a standalone version.

@zapor1- I know what you mean about the transit hub looking too long, however, in order to meet the layout shown on the WTC plans and for the building to fit in better with my WTC model, this design was the best option availabe.

It is a pity that the site was down as I was going to suggest you to get rid of the trees, I think they don't match your models, and you should also work a bit more on the textures. One more thing the bars don't look to see properly aligned... other than that is a beautiful model

That building absolutely screams Calatrava. Can't wait to be able to use it, your rendition looks fantastic.

    This was designed by Calatrava.

Thanks for all of the comments everyone. Just as an update from me, I have started breaking up the WTC complex into the separate model sections. From this, each of the towers will be exported separately. Then once this is done, work can start on creating the memorial plaza and museum. Here's a quick preview showing the base section around 1 WTC. Some new images will be posted in the comming weeks so stay tuned. :)

Hi guys, as promised, a new update for the WTC complex. Please note that the comlex is nowhere near finsihed yet. So far all of the towers have been re-modelled so that they fit together in the complex much more nicely. The next stage is to model the memorial plaza and museum. Anyway here's the day and night pics of the complex so far. Please let me know your thoughts. :)

It looks wonderful, but are those roads going to link up with actual roads? Otherwise it's going to be a bit difficult to place it. Lobby lights also seem a bit bright.

What are you planning to do with the lower right area of the complex? Wouldn't that be the WFC.
