    Neue Steiermark: Kolibri

The District of Neue Steiermark is located in north-central Schulmania, along the border of Imperial Mookimia and Mookimian Verà. Today, we visit Kolibri, the capital of Mookimian Verà, and where Queen Vera has one of her two palaces.

    NeueSteiermarkSplash_zps6834b0e3.jpg

Kolibri is the northernmost regional capital in Schulmania. It sits along the northern shore of the Fresca River, the border with Mookimia. The fairly remote location gives it strategic importance for trade and defense. The Strategic Fish Reserve is located just across the river. A military garrison is just west of town, along the road leading to Tenne. Mookimian Verà is not heavily developed and consists mainly of thickly forested rolling hills. Timber and game are the primary sources of income in the hinterland, but valuable ore deposits should encourage more trading outposts. At present, Kolibri is the largest city between Padoha and the subarctic Republic of Leeviousia  to the north. It should be an interesting city.

    1k01_zpsef79b980.jpg
In summer, Kolibri is a leafy northern town. In winter, show is frequent and occasionally harsh.

    1k02_zpsd2b62497.jpg
Kolibri Port is a vital transit connection for The Northlands. Additionally, some 80% of trade between Schulmania and  Leeviousia passes through here.

    1k03GovtHouseCivicCenter_zpsf4bb8a96.jpg
The Veràn Government House occupies Government Square. Creative name, eh? Behind it is the Kolibri Civic Center, housing government offices for the city.

    1k04ChapelFelicitousFeline_zpsd47236e3.j
The city church is the Chapel of the Felicitous Feline. The two ornate towers were carved by a pair of famed stonemasons - Jack and Zach Cathead. The brothers also worked on the Veràn Government House's exterior details.

    1k05_zpsb4961938.jpg
Tidy residential areas offer many amenities for the town's residents

    1k06Viceroyal_zpsf1fbf733.jpg
The Viceroyal Palace sits across from the Government House and occupies the north shore of the bend of the Fresca River. Queen Vera has opened the gardens behind the palace as a park for the citizens to enjoy. No wonder she is so beloved!

    1k07_zps79032a7a.jpg
    Cattingham Court has lovely cottages...

    1k08ScratchingPost_zps0fe01ef6.jpg
The Scratching Post is a combination lighthouse and culture center. The lower levels feature an art museum and the city library. Climb a bunch of stairs and you can get a great view from the top!

Exhausted? Let's stop at a cafe to get a snack. Your treat.

My treat?  I'm a teacher, I have no money, hahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, this town is in the north with harsh winters?  That means it's probably comfortably cooler in the summer and that means that hay fever is less of scourge!  Top it off with so much green and all that nature and this is the town for me!

Mymyjp    You are indeed a rising star in the constellation Schulmanopeia!

Hester    There's a looooong way to #3 for you!

jmsepe    Due to the war we have not had a census in several years. I am sure the numbers would be higher now. Also, only felines in towns are counted. Non-domiciled felines are only counted if they have been encountered by census takers.

NMUSpidey    That is indeed the model I used!

Mymyjp    Thanks! Glad you liked it! :D

takemethere    Thanks! Glad you liked it. And, welcome to Schulmania!

    Hester    I done schooled you!

    Benedict    Woo hoo! and thanks!

Mymyjp    Taking a virtual bow on iBow, available for download now in the App Store and Google Play...

Hester    Youtube is here to help!

Hester    It's only a 17 hour plane ride away!

    jmsepe    Thanks! :D

    Tonraq    Rock on, Kiwis!

airman15    Yep! Looks like it will be a while before another country hits 1000...

Mymyjp    Done And I will have a Aussie style latte... thanks for picking up the tab!

jmsepe    Thanks. I was feeling more northern this time around...

Mikeaut1    Thanks! Long time, no see! Glad to have you back.

    Hester    You bet!

    Mymyjp    Ewwww!

airman15    The capital itself did not move to the new location. This is a newly developed area. The national capital is staying put.

Tonraq        It's pretty remote up here at the moment...

NMUSpidey    I feel your pain! Winters are not Minnesota harsh but less temperate than most of Schulmania...

    Hester    Down with BUGGS!

And now, it's time for FUN WITH FLAGS!

Some fun facts from Schulmania's flags... surrender to fun today!

Germany has now eclipsed the UK to become the #2 country to visit Schulmania!
    Germany2_zps3e57b337.jpg
Also note that Japan has overtaken Russia and South Korea has risen 3 places. Brazil and France are getting very close as well. Oooh, the excitement!

Here's some other Schulmania visitors of note:

    East Tenne: The Academy

The leafy residential area known as The Woodlands is the capital's twelfth arrondissement and a great place to live and raise a litter of kittens. In addition to a fine neighborhood school there is also a private school - Big Orange Academy - or, "The Academy" for short. Not just anyone can get in. You have to meet stringent entrance requirements: cuteness, adorability, friskiness, and talent. It's a great campus. Let's take a look.

    00_zpsaa124716.jpg
A statue and some fancy-schmancy gates mark the entrance to the campus. The road into the campus is named John Ward Lane, in honor of the school's founder, Sir John Ward.

    001_zps34f8c802.jpg
The campus consists of academic buildings clustered along John Ward Lane and athletic fields and open spaces along the periphery

    002_zps0c6c0323.jpg
Classes like to meet outside along the steps when it is warm. Cats do like hot pavement!

    003_zps11598406.jpg
Plenty of spaces for recess time. The action is fast and furry-ous at the basketball court. On the soccer field, a team of cats all named Jack faces off against cats all named Cat-herine (get it?).

    004_zps3bf38999.jpg
If baseball is not your style, why not try the playground? On the mound is Drew Lots, pitching to June Bug. Drew made the all star team last year, as did catcher Chris Cross. Second baseman Samwise Toastchee did as well.

    005_zps9d9fcf93.jpg
The climbing tower is great exercise for growing paws and claws. The PE class heads out here often. When it rains, the class stays inside and climbs drapes.

    006_zps46e6027f.jpg
The administration and the library are housed in Carter Hall. Behind the building is Butch Jones Plaza and its delightful Peyton Manning Fountain. The fountain attracts pigeons, who are then pounced upon.

    007_zpsebe97474.jpg
Music classes will often perform in the Gujarat Amphitheater for fellow students and for the community

    008_zps0eaa202d.jpg
There are four academic quadrangles flanking John Ward Lane. These host all of the classes and house the labs. One is for the sciences, one for the arts, one for math classes, and the last for literacy and languages.

Come learn with us today at The Academy!

I loved every minute of that video.  I remember so many of those calls.  That was a nice start to the day.  John Ward.  No one like him.
