pingangster - yeah, I have a teriyaki beef bowl stand in the works, as pictured below.  And ice cream is on the list, too...

mosin33 - yes, you can select what you want to import into another model, and choose "Save Selected."  From there, you go into the model where you want the new piece, and select "Merge," then the newly saved selection.  It will pop up a window of all the pieces, boxes, splines, etc. and give you the option of picking and choosing...

SimGoober - yeah, they are a bit sparse in the chimney department...duly noted, and something to add to my "to do" list...thanks again for stopping by!

SimHotToddy - hmm I am torn on toning those colors down - perhaps the white needs to be clamped down, but I am rather fond of how gaudy and hot that pink is...will have to render it and see it in game before publishing.

spa - I have been taking to save on a regular basis, especially since I lost about an hour's work yesterday again on another one...from now on, saving early and saving often!

kant and [b/]gn leugim - thanks!

jasoncw - glad I got a laugh out of you...page flip indeed!

Here are two more that I've done, but not had a chance to nightlight...one is a teriyaki beef bowl joint, and the other is going to be a drive-thru and walk-up chicken place.  I'm trying to come up with some quirky names for them...

Alright well thank you I shall give it a try.

And some new buildings!!!! Looking good and really show your BAT talent in them I think.

So here is what I think...

-The sloped roof looks really good and really adds to the building.

-The textures are very good and dosent look like you tried to go overboard with them.

-I see this in all of your buildings, you have the walls stick out a little more and really gives a nice realistic shape to your buildings.

These new ones are very good and I see improvement.......as if you could get any better!!! 9.gif

    Nice job--Mosin33

Thanks! Quick question - is it necessary to request and adhere to any sort of ID from the BSC indices custodians when it comes to creating custom props? If I want to do stand-alone signs for some of these, can I just go and do them up in BAT and plunk them in the PIM, or do I have to mod them further and tweak their IDs?

I think you're getting props confused with base / overlay textures. Any models you render will automatically have a unique TGI number (one of these things: 0x5ad0e817-0x12345a6b-0x00030000) assigned to them - nobody else can have this TGI, therefore there cannot be conflicts between props made by separate users. It's a different story with textures I think - that's where the BSC assigning people ID ranges comes into play, but I'm not familiar with how textures are made so I can't elaborate.

Hmm, kebabs stands/shacks are exotic eh?3.gif

Well here they aint, got like 9 of them just in my town alone XD. And i live in Norway, imagine the ammount of them in Oslo XD

But anyway, i love you BATs, they remind me of the whacky style you sometimes see in the GTA games, like funny names, weird signs and generally trashy looks. XD

Actually I was thinking the same, lol. Cologne has parts that are sometimes jokingly called "Little Anatolya", so the Kebab density is rather high. A donut shop in turn is something exotic for us - IIRC it was as late as autumn 2008 when the first "dedicated" donut shop (a Dunkin Donuts) opened in the centre of Cologne. 3.gif

Not to mention all that drive-in / drive-thru stuff... apart from American chain restaurants like McDonald's and Burger King (we haven't got much more here, except for the occasional KFC and maybe, just maybe, one of a few Taco Bell restaurants), it's virtually unknown here. I know of exactly one bank with drive-through ATMs in town, for example...

These look really great. Very LAish. The textures and small details really give these character. Great work!

mosin33 - thanks...if by "walls stick out a little" you mean areas like the side door of the teriyaki place, it was partly for need of some more space on the inside of the BAT (where ovens or cookery or storage might be) and to vary the shapes a bit - I've done so many BATs where the shape of the building was a rectangle or square, so I wanted to mix things up a bit.

    spa - thanks 4.gif

Cockatoo - thanks for the reply - for some odd reason I had it stuck in my head that I needed to do something special or different for props...glad I don't need to learn hexadecimals...heheheheh

Glenni and T Wrecks - heheheh, well kabobs are "exotic" if you measure things on the "boorish ignorant American" scale of food. 2.gif Like you said, donut shacks are exotic to you, whereas in my area they are in abundance...which is pretty damn sad, now that I think about it. LOL I've never played the GTA games, but it seems my commercial sense of humor is along GTA's devs' line... 4.gif Thanks for stopping by!

pingangster - indeed these are LA to the core...I'm a Burbank resident myself, and the Teriyaki place is based in part of one on Alameda here in Burbank. The taco place is partly inspired by a little dive I saw in downtown LA a few weeks ago. Glad you like these, I had a blast making them...

Well, I posted them on the STEX. Here's a copy of the screenies...

    mag5RtZ.jpg B9tjwKy.jpg

I think ice cream, kabobs, boba cafe, BBQ ribs, and cheesesteaks/submarines are also on the list....maybe I'll get around to making those for a future pack...

Here's another little guy I had fun with - I've been reading a bit on googie architecture, and looking at pictures of diners and greasy spoons. It's a little coffee house, appropriately called "The Nite Owl."

Gn_leugim - thanks! You've certainly been busy publishing on the STEX this week, haven't you?

SimGoober - wow, you've posted like three times in my thread...it's like getting your feet washed by the Pope, I'm honored. 2.gif Heheheheh, I got your joke immediately - I had this name stuck in my head and started in on making the BAT, and for a good hour and a half I kept thinking that I couldn't have been that clever in making the name up entirely out of thin air, and then I remembered LA Confidential...side story, ten years ago I was working at my favorite costume shop here in Los Angeles, and I stumbled across the bolt of fabric that the workroom head had made Kim Basinger's fantastic aqua dressing gown from - it was like a religious moment...heheheh, thanks for stopping by as always...

nofunk - yeah, I suppose there's lots of low wealth still in my bloodstream....heheheh...I'm thinking of doing a bunch of diners, little Valentine restaurants, coffee shops, and greasy spoons, and collecting them into a pack. I probably should have labelled the last pack differently since they're not really shops, but I felt I should keep up the consistency with the previous releases....

pingangster - thanks - I'm not sure if it's my best, but I do love the details. I think my bests have been Tacos de Jesus and Mr. Yum's Donuts (from Volume 3), Get 'Em Out Bail Bonds (from Volume 1), and Mambo Yvette's Gris Gris and Gumbo (from my first New Age and Occult pack). And I guess the Bait Shop which is yet unreleased, which was initially built off the skeleton of Mambo Yvette's, but with tons of added details and quirky character bits...thanks for your support and encouragement, fellow LA resident! 4.gif

SimHoTToDDy - thanks. Like I said earlier in the thread to someone else, so many of my earlier stuff (indeed up until a month or so ago) was basically square or rectangular in terms of ground plan...but I've found (at least in my own work) that little variations from that basic square tend to really liven the BATs up - even if it's an extra jutting out here or rounding off there...it makes things much more interesting to the eye and as variable as buildings are in real life...

I've been torn with keeping the red details for the Nite Owl, I think it might be too clashy with the other colors...I think I might change them all blue and go with a cooler color for the lighting. Oddly enough, getting the color scheme right on this little BAT has been frustrating, as I've not quite settled on something I like 100%...

Here's another, Ed's Diner, that I had a blast modelling, but absolutely hated texturing. I think I may lose the bench in front and put a nice unkempt green hedge there - I think it needs some shabby greenery.

Thanks, too, to everyone for the Trixie - wow, that made my week! I'm truly honored and humbled...

Thanks for the comments. I am having tons of fun with these - I'm a sucker for diner food. Maybe I'll collect all these into a separate pack, and call it "Diners, Coffee Shops, and Greasy Spoons." dk1 made some diners and posted them to the STEX, but I wish they were a little more detailed and had a little more character...

Here's the Short Stack Breakfast Stop - hmmm waffles sound good right now...I'm happy with the colors on this one.

    qXLBJGQ.jpg

And here's one that I'm thinking of calling 'The Blue Ox' Burger Joint...I'm not entirely sold on the colors, and want to change the blue newspaper vending machine to red since there's already so much blue going on with it.

First of all, I'm not from LA 9.gif I guess my avatar and comments misled you. But I do really like it. I find the endless sprawl that is LA intriguing.

Anyways, these new diners you're coming out with are phenomenal. They have a lot of character, and the colors work. Well, I think the last one has too much blue as you mentioned, but other than that they're great. You should try to do one of the "original" diners, the ones that were made from train cars.

Oh, and last but not least, congrats on the trixie 2.gif
