Looks great, the one above reminds me of buildings by JBSimio, I think it's the similarity in texture palette and the form of the building. The other two buildings in the next pack look promising as well :)

Ion_Cannon - thanks, JBSimio's stuff has been a great inspiration to me for these lately. Though they can't even compare to his - I'm not worthy...!

I had done a little modified rooftop garden for one of the first midrise offices I BATted, but tossed it because it didn't seem to work. Found it again, and figured it was worth salvaging; I wanted this one to look like they had installed the little rooftop patio decades after the building was built...it's configured to look like they wedged it into that space because of the HVAC placement (which I need to keep tweaking)...

    Looking good buddy. :D

To me the roof access building door looks wide to me.

Hello MadHatter, or anyone for that matter.

My small office pack that I have downloaded into the Plugins folder will work, but for some reason the parking lot will not show up on any of the buildings? Is there a way to correct this 'simple' problem? :)

    Thanks,

Yes, all it takes is probably to set gfx details to 'high' and restart the game.

Aaron Graham and Darknono35 - thanks for catching the "wide door" - I had been pushing and pulling a whole bunch of selected objects, and not realized that the door had gotten out of control. Fixed now, thanks for those eyes which caught what I had totally overlooked.

Sgt Pepper and mattb325 - indeed, often I find that in the last twenty minutes of working on a BAT, when you load those little details in, that is the moment when the BAT begins to really shine or sing. The temptation is to go too far overboard with them, or at least that's what I've found...thanks for stopping by.

    GN_leugim - thanks!

corydreinhardt and TWrecks - hope that worked; I haven't had the problem, nor have I heard this issue creeping up before with this upload, so here's hoping the fix worked...

Texturing and nightlighting this one. I think some details still need to be tweaked, and I'm tempted to BAT some pretty sculpted hedges in the front, so they're nice and close and snug up next the building and within the existing LODs.

These last two are feeling a bit CO$$$ in my estimation. There's been some talk of tilesets in a European city thread in the main forum, and while I don't BAT with a tileset in mind, this one definitely feels Chicago (with the "Chicago windows"), which I added to shake things up a bit from my recent stuff...

great work. and yes, I have to agree on the style and wealth. to be fair, imo, most of your buildings fall into American architecture for great sadness of Europeans ^^

But many europeans love the American style. I've always do my cities with the US design. It's so great :D

Great job Madhatter ;) it's a beautiful building. Your chicago windows are useful and good to diversified the differents styles!!

Hahaha, add me to the list! I'm also a European, and I love to build American towns with brownstones, colourful wooden single-family homes or rowhouses, and of course, Art Deco skyscrapers! It was such a thrill last summer to see the beautiful wooden houses in towns like St. John's (Newfoundland) and Halifax (Nova Scotia) as well as the W2W buildings and skyscrapers in NYC.

Still, I think many (not all, but many) of your offices are generic enough not to stick out in a European-themed town.

I agree with you about the latest BAT, though - it definitely has that Chicago tileset touch to it! I'm not that decided on CO§§ vs. CO§§§. AFAIR, Finch Insurance is a CO§§, and although it's a large highrise, the general style is similar. At the end of the day, I think either category would be appropriate. :)

Darknono35, T Wrecks and Gn_leugim - yeah, I never think in terms of European or American, though I must say I don't often end up searching for European influences for my stuff. Either way, I'm glad you enjoy my silly little BATs. I'm still undecided on CO$$ versus CO$$$, I suppose part of it will be dictated by what I'm naming them. We shall see...

    libelibicus - thank you!

Here's a rare case of me going and starting to work up/drop in textures before the BAT modeling is finished. Kids, don't try this at home.

    rQhdQ8Z.jpg

I want to find another interesting thing for the roof, like the gardens/lounge spaces on my past two - I'm tired of just doing boring roof junk and HVACs and vents and whatnot. Need to find some interesting tidbits to add to this one to make it sing...plus, I'm tempted to BAT one of these with a fancy pants ground floor restaurant fronting it, with chic outdoor dining/tables in the front at one side or another...

Thanks, all. Here's the building textured with plain old roof junk on it.

    bTvV0qt.jpg

I don't know, it's lacking something...maybe the prior two buildings had such interesting roofs, this one looks a bit anemic in comparison. It needs some sort of bonus or whatnot. Haven't figured out the roof access yet...maybe that's why it looks nekkid.

Stuck at home sick with the flu. I don't even wanna BAT I feel so lousy... :/

Uh, that sounds unpleasant... I hope you'll recover soon!

As for the BAT, why not give the building a defined back side where it's less ornate (fewer windows and decorations, no ornate cornice, etc.) and add another floor to the back that only extends a few metres towards the front and thus doubles as a roof entrance/tech penthouse? I also see the opportunity of adding a water tower there... ;) And perhaps some fire ladders in the back?

now that sucks.. the flu, not the BAT, it is great. The roof may not be so apeling as the later ones, but nevertheless, it is great. not all roof need ot be a owrk of art, in RL many are just boring despite the façades :)

Agreed. Not all roofs are chock-a-block with AC units, window cleaning tracks etc

I wish you a good recovery ;) . But about the roof, I'm agree with all, many roofs are just boring. I think you doesn't need to add a lot of roofs junk for completed your roof. Just an access for the maintenance team:)

    Great work

Looking forward to these new buildings as well. They look like your tallest yet! People like you (and also maybe JBSimio, Jeronij, Jasoncw, the NAM team, and a good portion of PEGPROD and the NDEX crew) are the reason SimCity 4 is still being played over 10 years after it's been released. It's just good to have variety (and flavor, delicious flavor) in your otherwise average commercial sectors. Keep up the good work, man, and here's to bigger (if you want) and better things to come.

5 months later and I can't help but wonder what's been happening. I hope you're alright, and those buildings are still looking very good. I can imagine you eventually making skyscrapers to rival the NDEX crew (and I think we could do with some towers that have your touch).

Hard to believe it's been nearly a year since I've kicked these BATs around.  Truth be told, I have been extremely busy in 2013 with real life - been spearheading a crazy business venture which is finally coming to fruition, and which has taken just about every spare moment of my time.  I don't know if it's the toughest thing I've ever done in my life, but certainly one of the most complicated...(if anyone is a big fan of board and card games and they're in the Los Angeles area, you should drop me a line and come visit...)

However, as a decompression over the past couple of weeks in some of my downtime, I've managed to render the first three of the older style buildings (after salvaging the data from a dying 10 year old desktop), and added a fourth.  Here's the latest, modeled, textured, and lit...

    alsOt1L.jpg

I think this pack will be all buildings that are in this vein - older, more traditional, probably a mix of CO$$ and CO$$$.  I'm sure there's  more in me...just hoping I can find the time to pull them out...
