De Grote Kerk van Rijssenveen. This photo is from 1538, while it was under construction. You can see they just finished waterproofing it with blue plastic, and will soon begin putting up the imitation masonry skin on the facades.

Ill:

I think it is enough visible!! don't scrap it, as it really does look good and realistic. There is no need to grotesquely over do things. Sometimes best way to show something is just to hint at it. How would it look on the sunny side? I hope to see more of thin building in your thread!

delija21:

The Aerius Tower looks really interesting. Great size too!

Is that "outer glass skin" just a one layer of glass set at some distance of actual separating glass curtain wall or is IT - the glass separating (exterior from interior spaces) wall.

Another question is about the scale. What zoom does this picture represent? It seems either too small for Zoom5 or prolly too big for Zoom4...

Also that "cut" corner patch should (IMHO) be better integrated into the rest of outer shell. so that "CUTS" stand out and not the whole thing look like it is slapped on top of the tower.

Scipio:

Oh... you've started your "blue period" ;-)

Scipio:

The stained glass windows look really neat. I would assume coming up with a design for the windows must be pretty tough, in addition to making them.

Delija21:

The mixed glass shape is really neat. Did you use separate glass shapes or boolean?

illTonkso:

I know in reality the different glass textures are different, but I think the subtlety in difference is better that way. However, you should post a side-view.

We, stardust, are the oddest observers of self (a.k.a. the universe).

I'm just a group of atoms typing this.

What do I know?

1. No disrespect to Kellydale, but that's a little insulting to the rest of us who also know what we're doing.  Kellydale isn't doing anything particularly fancy, but glass materials are an easy way to woo the masses.

2. I don't think he plans on releasing it.  It's just a city building project.  I may be wrong though.

Sorry...lol I didn't mean to disrespect the rest, you're all amazing and I shouldn't really say any judgmental things...lol I can't even use sketchup. I thought you were all using Gmax... I can't tell the difference (I know I really need to learn the difference...to me they're identical.) I didn't realize you're using the same thing...sorry. I feel dumb now lol! Lots to learn. 34.gif

Lol if we have spiral badge under our name it means we're a proficient 3ds max users. There are more of us than the badges let on though; Mightgoose and Kellydale are also both quite good.

Not new, but progress, albeit slow and plodding...

Broadway Mansions - south view

Broadway Mansions, Shanghai

It's a heavy, masculine, hulking and gloomy pile, but we will use the phrase "atmospheric patina"  Hmmm, more recent pictures show that renovations have removed the Bayer sign and aerial mast.  I liked them, so they are going to stay here, as the real building now always seems like it missing something at the top.  However, I have another version going without the giant sign and which follows more of the original 1930s British design.

Enlarges to 540 x 932 and 200kb in New Window

Enlarges to 648 x 932 at 288kb in New Window

Numerous tweaks still remain, along with nightlighting, but at least it has finally topped out.

It is a superb model Odain!!

One small bit of the criticism be is that it overly stretched vertically. Bayer sign look already more like an egg then circle. More then than that I thingk that some squashing should be present as to indicate the perspective of the view.

But apart for that it just perfect.

And the best part of it are colors. they are superb!!!

here is a quick screenshot of my new re-modelled version of the Austin City Bank Tower. The tower was due to be released this week, but i am having large rendering problems, including the shadows not displaying and the nightlighting only showing correctly every now and then. Still working on a soloution so fingers crossed.

My latest, based off the old Slovak House building in Detroit, MI. A real shame it was demolished, it was a beautiful building.
