Unfortunately this one is suffering from 'looked better in perspective renders' syndrome. Nevertheless, here it is, some random corner building based off some random Manchester building. God only knows what I am going to do with the roof, Industrial Revolution Office Buildings don't tend to have much in the way of roof junk.

The back looks great IMHO.

Well, and easy way to fix that is to not work in perspective. 2.gif

The building seems all around too big though. Also, while I'm not super knowledgeable about that kind of architecture, the windows would more than likely have more depth to them. If they were modern replacement windows they might be like that, but wooden windows back then would have needed to be a lot more beefy in order to hold all of that glass. The windows were also probably openable, which would make the frames even thicker.

I think the roof would be just fine with a few drains on it. I don't think a roof really needs much or any roof junk on it to look good, it just needs to be well textured.

It is supposed to 4.gif Most buildings like this in Manchester have been completely renovated and in many cases Deathmasked. For those not familiar with the concept of Deathmasking, it is where the entire building is stripped of all interiour walls and floors and a new building is built inside, only keeping the outside walls. I actually modeled everything to realistic measurements, however with the BAT view, you often have to overdo things to make them look right in the render. Tis the curse of the dreaded SC4 angle.

I went to the trouble of modeling each stone for the lower floors too, I was bored and just felt like it. I need to tweak the brick texture as it is tiling a little at the moment, the tiling aside I am happy with it, scale and saturation wise. The stonework at the top looks awful but it is modeled accurately, I may add some poetic license to liven it up a little, add some depth. All in all I think it makes a half decent 2x2 corner lot.

It's a term coined by SimFox to describe a technique he developed where the sun is turned off for night renders.  Normally a BAT render leaves it on which leads to all BAT models having inappropriate shadows in the night view - unless you rationalise it as a really bright moon 2.gif

Ill Tonkso - nice looking building.  One of those that may look a little plain on its own, but which will blend nicely into a block of W2Ws and can stand being repeated many times in a city.

I'm afraid there's no easy answer to that - take a look at the description of the technique that  jasoncw gave me in the '3ds Max - Troubleshooting' thread - also there's various discussions in threads by SimFox.  I'm still trying to figure it out, so can't answer your question yet.

Decided to work on some Portsmouth Tower Blocks, I need to sort out the anti-aliasing on thisas you cant see all 670,000 wonderful polygons in action. Ok I went a little over the top using outdated modeling techniques and having stupidly high interpolations on the cylinders considering this is a SC4 model. But I wanted to see if my PC could take it. Started texturing, got as far as the concrete panels, red railings, frosted glass and window glass (both which use physical glass materials like my Spinnaker Tower, this will become noticeable later).

The names Nickleby and Barkis houses (this tower has a twin next door) come from Charles Dickens novels, Charles Dickens birthplace is literally 200ft from the front door of Nickleby House.

These towers are kept up nicely, as are all Tower Blocks in Portsmouth, one of the best things about this city is that it doesn't let them end up a mess and have to pull them down.

nice stuff tonks, not really my style but looking good. my only complaint though with some of your stuff is that it's not dirty enough. SC4 is disgustingly clean imo, and a few dirty buildings here and there wouldn't hurt in the least. With that in mind:

MODULAR TRAIN PLATFORMS!!111

platformpieces.jpg

These are 2 tile long sections, which are slightly more than a tile wide to meet the tracks nicely. They come in 4 flavors right now; Normal, Simplified Normal, Stairs, and Kiosk Building. I still have to make some additions and stuff but they're nearly done. Also coming up are the end pieces that taper down.

And more progress on the main building:

LargeView.jpg

I swear I will finish this one soon, but I'm going to need Simfox to render it for me. Not sure if he's down with that.

The modular platforms are a great idea.  Would I be right in thinking there will also be a choice of end pieces (square ended and tapering) and open platforms(no canopy)?

Quick update on the Riviera Tower Complex. The below pic shows the two main towers almost completed  in the BAT's first render. Still more texturing needs to be done and the modelling of the base is still yet to be completed.
