Jasoncw was right... this thread is getting chaotic...

I like how the high saturation and contrast of that sewage bat gives it a "sunset after a bad storm" feel... wonder how it'll look in the game.

Here's a teaser of the Old Morrison Admin Builidng (OMAB for short?)

(ignore all the oddly coloured objects, they're just there as helpers...)

Here is one from me as well, It isn’t Asian, so I’m not sure where to put it…
Actually I’ve started it last Sunday as an illustration to one tutorial I have in mind, but got caught in it... and now it looks as it may be heading for release in times not too distant…

And, naturally architectural shot:

But now I’m off for sun, sea and fun!

The more we see, the better it's getting. Salivating actually!

Maybe we should call the thread something like a BAT Charrette...a design exercise where everyone just quickly pools together whatever project they are working on up to that moment for show.

I really want to go boating now, hehe!

It's 10 storeys too short to be Trellick (amongst other differences).  I'd only be happy calling it Trellick if it was a proper recreation.  As it's only heavily influenced by Trellick I decided it was Trellick-ish ... hence Trellish Tower.

Nice work on Hamley's, by the way.  That was always one I expected gascooker to get round to.

Jason, Patriot, I'm absolutely guilty as charged... It is a case of biting more then you can, or sometime, prepared to chew. for next two weeks I wouldn't be able to do any bating, but I think this new building (it is a recreation of one new residential tower in Moscow btw) will be finished quite soon as there is no any complicated base to be concerned with. And it will be my first building release on STEX.

To everyone... actually in the beginning I had very same reservations about this thread Jason had voiced in one of his messages, but I have to admit I was totally wrong. It is very inspirational to see all the work done by various artists all at once in one place! There is such a remarkable level of talent and dedication!

But I think it should also be place to share some knowledge and advise.

So, if I may, just a feew points that come right away to my mind looking at some of the excellent work presented here:

Mightygoos. You may want to up you AA settings to fix that stair stepping issue with fine lines on that glass circular structure of yours, and may be play with alternative reflections setting described by autoVino in his tutorial thread. Those are broadly same techniques I've used with Paul's Lippo. I think it is much more appropriate than cloud reflections.

Zero7: again wonderful recreation of impressive and so misunderstood and misrepresented style in architecture! But since you do it in Max you may try to play with alternative lighting rig setup. The default one really doesn't do a justice to your great model. Not only it deeps significant part of building at certain view to overwhelming darkness, but also produce odd splotches. The fact is that lighting setup can not (by the very design ot it) produce a decent renditions of anything more complex than a basic box.

Bat56: your boats look fantastic!! May be you could apply the same technique to buildings to produce great and so fashionable now flowing lines and curves. And teach us how to do it... do you make your stuff with polygonal or nurbs modeling?

Greadlock!! I think you're doing remarkably well!! Great sense of proportion and scale - something that is often is completely amiss in many Bats!

Jason, have you gave a thought to either do UWV unwrap on your building or integrate AO into the material setup. I think it would be great advantage with such a structure.

I've got to get some sleep now, but all the works here were very impressive

SimFox, I plan on using uvw unwrap for the spandrels between the windows.  I will attach them all together as one object, and uvw unwrap, and I'll get a ton of little boxes (they're all modeled as flat planes).  I'll give some of them different designs, since some of them have vents cut through.  I'll also see about giving them either bump or normal maps, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it, since they're so small.

I'm not 100% sure if I will uvw unwrap the rest of the walls.  I think I will.  I plan on texturing in the different blocks and things accurate to real life, and I want the lines to line up.  Also, there are so many walls that if I did them using separate custom textures, it would be very hard to edit the colors and contrast and things.

I'll also try Ambient Occlusion out, since I think it would be especially beneficial considering this building's shape.

For windows, I will use my usual bitmap methods, but I might also add reflections, since this building has something to reflect on some of the windows.  Although in real life the windows are not especially reflective, so it will not be as extreme as most of the uses are on here.

No textures yet, but the bulk of the modelling is done. There are many details to add still though.

I'm never a man for one project though, here are a couple of others I have on the go.

SWEETNESS!!!! Mightygoose you should BAT more! Do you have any uploads!!! Simfox, that may not look very asian but I know HK has some buildings that look like that! BAT56, That sailboat is amazing! I am only good at making squares and rectangles. Tonksie's stuff looks good, I've a hankering for some British HK stuff to use, and those fit. Glenni! To everybody else what a great treat!! Lots of a great talent here! I may have to start using DT's block all Maxis buildings soon.

I love coffee and buildings.
