    Atkinos: Schulmania At Last!

We have had many an update featuring the islands of the realm. Finally, we are on the mainland! Schulmania is the most distant colony thus far in the nation. Because of the high population density and general lack of agriculture in the island colonies, Schulmania became, almost by default, the breadbasket of the country. Small commercial and residential sectors provided the necessities as communal and private farms covered large swaths of territory. In this sparsely populated and highly cultivated area, history abounds. A monument was placed on the spot Baby Monkey discovered palm trees. Some small historic structures were built near the ferry port for commerce. To understand Schulmania in its early stages, one must examine the farms and pastures.

    babymonkeyzy9.jpg

Baby Monkey's statue was placed exactly in the same grove of palm trees he first encountered on the voyage of discovery. It is a popular destination for history buffs and classes on field trips.

One aspect of the large agricultural sector in Schulmania is the large pastures for grazing. Cattle and horses were raised here and exported across the country. Several large pastures were embedded amongst the cultivated fields.

    pasture1zz6.jpg

Five pastures - four for cows and one for horses - are surrounded by fields and woodlands. Small farms and houses dot the surrounding territory.

    pasture5cm2.jpg

A closer view of the cow pastures. Definitely watch your step walking through this meadow!

    pasture2de1.jpg

The farm closest to this corner pasture belonged to Old McDonald. With a neigh neigh here and a moo moo there, he was a successful farmer. EIEIO!

    pasture3hz1.jpg

The animals and farmers were happy, but a few horses, like Mr. Ed (shown above outside the perimeter wall) did sneak out and gallop around town periodically. Mr. Ed reports the grass is slightly greener on the other side of the fence.

    pasture4fr7.jpg

Looking at this socializing group of cows makes one wonder who doubts that cows gossip. Nadine and Flossie were ostracized for their lack of cow bells and are seen outside the wall, pouting. Bessie and Beefarella lead other small group discussions on such wide-ranging topics as genteel cud chewing, the latest trends in milk production or fashionable hoofwear for the upcoming season.

    pasture6zb2.jpg

Luckily, cattle rustling was not a problem. Each animal had its own identification card, just in case any got lost.

    pasture7nc7.jpg

The area surrounding this pasture became known as the Vale of the White Cow.

    pasture1jt7.jpg

    pasture2ai5.jpg

Two closer views of the pasture areas

Some farmers lived right on the farm. Others lived in houses close to the fields.

    house2jg4.jpg

This fine home was across from the pasture. Homeowner Jacqulina Paradise makes a living with her horse farm as well as a consulting business for terraforming. She is considered to be the utmost authority on the subject.

    houses1nm9.jpg

Some farmers clustered their homes around the edges of fields, rather than built over fertile land.

    houses3mb0.jpg

Homes often had large lots with trees, providing little Schulminions with plenty of great treehouse locations!

This overview of agricultural Schulmania will close with what Schulmania does best- grow crops! Here's some views of the farms of Schulmania.

    farm1hb2.jpg

Almost everything grew in the rich soil here - from cocoa to cocoa additives. What a life!

    farm2yp6.jpg

Tomatoes were grown in large numbers. The farmers, naively trusting the tomatoes to behave themselves, planted fields full of future marinara sauce and salsa.

    farm3qc7.jpg

Many farmers had their homes near the fields rather than in the center of them, maximizing the land's production capability.

    farm4vw1.jpg

These farmers lived in Atkiniros before coming to Schulmania. The Jilad and the Tanagra families brought the style of farmhouse from that village here and built small family farms. The children of Tamar, Timba and Shaka and little Sokath, had a treehouse in the backyard where they would play and sing songs about Chantil.

    farm5zu3.jpg

Harvest time is nearly here already!

    farm7zn3.jpg

    Apple pie, anyone?

    farm9gs1.jpg

This small family farm was plagued by teenage cows who sneaked out of the pasture to stomp on pumpkins. Later, a musical tribute was made to these intrepid cows - a band called Smashing Pumpkins. Perhaps you have heard of them?

    farm10gv0.jpg

The Connorvee family lived on Connorvee Road, which runs right along the shore of the World Ocean. Here, the family could farm and fish. The trees were great for hammocks, too!

    farm13li4.jpg

The largest farm in Schulmania was the Simtrop family farm. They grew cotton and several other crops. Of course, with this much cotton, old times were not forgotten!

    farm15px8.jpg

The population is low - these guys must have been very efficient to cultivate such a large area.

    farm16ap9.jpg

Like I said, lots of land for just a few farmers to cultivate.

This is the last settlement with permanent residents in the Atkinos District. There is one other place, a special one, yet to be seen before we move to another region in Schulmania...

RushHourFreak    Thanks! I will pass that on. Feel free to submit your own entry for the contest.

PhilsCafe    Thanks! Glad you like it. There's more to come of that style as well!

GMT    And monkeys. Lots and lots of monkeys! That's the Jr. Schulmanator's fault.

Benedict    It is! And the universe is contained in a donut forcefield! Mmmmmmmm, donuts......

Pipishere    Fear not! Schulminion alchemists have discovered ways to reduce the caloric value of all of their treats. And, remember all of those studies showing the health benefits of chocolate....

sc4portugal    Thanks! I hope you enjoyed your chocolate.

Meinhosen    Yep! We're only halfway to Schulman Day. My goal is an update a day till Schulman Day. Some will be SC4 updates and other celebrations of the holiday season. I still have one more update in the Atkinos region to go!

Jacqulina    Great! Operators are standing by!

football_fever    They are good at their jobs. They'll throw in a free box for your kind comment!

    gift3pi7.jpg

Narya    Wow! With added health benefits like what you saw, Busscastle should be sold in the vitamin section of the pharmacy!

Zelgadis    Fear not! One massive update today and the last of Atkinos district is coming. The next area is 99% ready. I have a few argumentative buildings which are putting up some resistance. Not too smart, these buildings. I demolish them and the come right back in the same spot. Persistent, though!

Jacqulina    Thanks! How do you like your horse farm?

Ddmd    Thanks for your timely advice from the Klingman Institute, the flagship medical institution in Schulmania. I hear the latest medical journals feature articles on medicinal uses for chocolate. Perhaps the O.R. could start chocolate IV's for the patients?

RushHourFreak    Thanks! I am glad that you liked them and that they struck a chord for you. Makes me happy.

seemurray2    Thanks! Actually, one of the photos used is of Ireland. Ireland is a nice place- those rolling hills and stone walls. I can see the similarity, as well.

fledder200    June and April are, like, total foxes! They are so dreeeeamy! Not like that Paris Hilton. She's like a troll! Gag me with a spoon! Hope they think the update is like, totally radical!

Zelgadis    Kentucky? I can see the similarity, esp with the horse farms. In my homeland, Tennessee, we have the rolling hills but split rail fences instead of stone. Personally, I like stone better.

Zipme17    Thanks! Glad you enjoyed your visit to Schulmania.

GMT    Thanks! You shant have long to wait.

football_fever     Hmmm, didn't think of that. Actually, I was having a hard time getting the update posted because it could not decide to be on pg 21 or 22. When it finally showed up, I had like 3 of them. So, I had a bunch of deleting and reposting till it finally worked out right. Those pesky computers! Why can't they just read our minds and do what we want?!

Emilin    Thanks! I plopped so many fields down I think I wore out my computer's mouse!

El Burro    You can always place another order! They had to invent the insulated boxes just for you! The next step is the thermos. Then, of course, the Mc DLT! Glad you liked the update. And, I would be proud to have a fine commie vodka for Schulmaniya!

sc4portugal    Glad you like the farms!

grinch337 Thanks! Great minds think alike!

    REMINDERS TO ALL:

    1. You can still submit cat pictures for the fine arts contest. Rumor has it the prize this year will be a bucket o' schulmonetas from the Supreme Wirdle's treasury!

    2. You can continue to order chocolates from the catalog until the 13th. The Schulman Day catalog expires at midnight on the 13th. Then, Ambassador Robert Fox takes over to distribute donuts to all worthy souls.

Narya    Thank you for your return. I think it is probably best to keep the dragons on a leash. BTW, I checked your profile and see you are in Slovenia. That's a pretty little country. I almost got a chance to go there a few years ago. I would like to someday! It looks beautiful.

hamsterTK    Thanks! Glad you like it. I have not been called hard core before! Hard headed, yes, but hard core, not yet!

waway625   Thanks! Glad you like it. Some of the farmers are quite wealthy. After all, they grow the ingredients for the famous chocolates!

Darmok   Glad you liked it! I worked in as many Darmok-related words as I could!

Jacqulina That's ok. I have had ST problems myself today. I hope you like your house and horse farm!
