bixel, I saw the pics that you are referring to yesterday at work. I was mesmerized. I cannot believe the development that has taken place, especially in Wan Chai. And yes, Jardine House IS that bright because of the lighting. My dad said that it used to be on of the most prestigious office towers in HK.

Bixe: No I'm not, but I get my regular fix of Hong Kong stuff (admitted not much news on new buildings but more economic news) but also Toronto too, especially when I am bored at work. I get way more updates there then say emporis or skyscraperpage.

mightygoose, absolutely beautiful rendering. It's amazing (or maybe not) how they are mimicking HK's style of building communities. I don't understand why they need to build a long slab like those, cutting off wind and sun. They should be building one or two point towers.

Anyhoo here is a very interesting blog I stumbled upon, show some up close views of HK Residential Towers in finalization of the construction process. Am curious about what others things this guy posts.

@SimFox. Whats happened with your Metro City Projekt ? Did you cancelled it ? (Don't hope so).

Nope, it hasn’t been canceled... The problem with it is sooo huge and with the level of detail it is very problematic to render it with current scripts. I've solved the memory constrain (full complex takes 4+Gb while rendering) but the time remains an issue. I hope I'll be able to change a script in such a way as to eliminate 1 stage - namely night alpha mask rendering. This would reduce export time significantly making behemoths like Metro Harbor more feasible. I'm now making smaller /individual bases so that towers could be released separately. This also would be more practical in game terms.
I hope to get Lippo exported over this weekend, Plus I have few other things in works. I’ve finished all towers of One Silver Sea and started on the base. It is much more compact complex that should fit well in game (very much because of the color scheme) and with some of the Bixels ones.

Simfox, that means you will split Metro Harbour in two pieces, the same as bixel has done ? Okay, in my game, this works properly and make sense.

You have done One Silver Sea ?? *jipiie*

I love this building.

Can't wait to see it.

Whoa, cool! Just gotta do something about that floor, though... It's really ugly in its current state.

What a shame...

This design is adopted...

However it's blocking the view of Pacific Place...

The design is great,

but it fits bad along the harbour view.

Yes its quite a controversy, of course some of the mega development companies and conservative business groups dos not like it because it will be reclaiming several million (if not billion) square feet on the harbor - adding to it and radically changing the transportation system. Some buildings will be redeveloped or torn down to make room. I however see it as something they may grow to love, with the exception of the center piece building the rest of the buildings will be midrises and there will be a lot of park - bike paths and flora.

Property and Business groups are against it since it will be effectively turning the some of the highest valued land in HK into a park. This generates absolutely no money and does not fuel office/firm economy in anyway. They would rather see it developed with more stacks of office buildings and clusters of high density residential. However strange some of the designs appear I think this is a good bold decision of HK to do this and I think it is a good idea.

Well too bad for the business groups. I think they have made enough money in HK in my opinion. They've built 60 storey condos blocking the wind and sun for landlocked communities, and frankly, some of the architecture away from Mong Kok, Admiralty, Central, Tseun Wan, West Kowloon, and Tai Koo, is less than sub-par. Yay to the government for taking such bold measures.

Hong Kong still gt a lot of chances in making money on redevelopment projects...

Don't forget the old slums and poor districts, abandoned industrial complex...

They are much different from those in foreign countries...

They are huge, but also tall...

There are some older neighbourhoods that need to be preserved. The problem is that the government is pushing the poor people into sterile public housing estates. These so-called communities don't have the vitality of older communities.

Some are.. some aren't.

I see some friendly relationship built between the neighbours in the housing estates.

Not all old communities are being pushed by the government.

Actually some are willing to be moved out because the buildings are really worn out and imposing safety hazard, electricity, hygiene fire hazards...

Hong Kong housing estates are improving a lot, or I shall say, better. The quality is not bad at all.

Swimming pools, shopping centres, playgrounds, schools, bus terminus nearby.

Very ideal indeed.
