I guess the bigger problem is finding someone who can do the automata modding. Requests are quickly made - "recreate HK buses!" - "make it a reward!", but don't forget that there are few people who have the skills to mod such stuff. I'm not one of them. 15.gif

Sounds like a plan SimFox... but I do suggest you open another thread for that as it would be straying off topic from this thread.

Someone in Hong Kong discovered this team and quoted the link to a Hong Kong bus discussion website. Seems like the popularity is bouncing up more and more!

    wow really

And  this is a pic of the proposed millenium tower in hkmillenium_tower_hong_kong-thumb.bmp

    A litte info

The Millennium Tower is a planned architectural structure that will be built in a specifically designed bay in Hong Kong. The completed tower would stand at a height that would be twice the size of today's tallest buildings and will be similar to Sky City in Tokyo. It was conceived by the Obayashi Corporation, and was designed by Foster and Partners.

    Statistics (planned)

    • Height: 840 meters (2,755 feet), 170 stories

    • Resident Population: 62,000

    • Elevator Traffic: 100,000 people per day

    • Shape: Cone
    • Location: Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong

    • Construction Duration: Approximately 10 years

    • Cost: $10 billion

And this is the bionic tower

A Bionic tower is a proposed vertical city in Shanghai in China, an extremely large and tall building designed for human habitation, a type of arcology. It would have a main tower about 1200 meters high, with 300 stories that would house about 100,000 people.

The bionic tower is an incomplete project of a vertical city to be built in Hong Kong. If built, it would be the tallest building in the world at 1228 meters.

    Specifications

    • Authorship: Eloy Celaya, Mª Rosa Cervera, Javier Gómez Pioz
    • High: 1,228 m. (Above ground floor)
    • Urban Model: Vertical City
    • Inhabitants: 100,000
    • Stories: 300
    • Area: 2,000,000 sq.m.

    • Tower Dim. 166x133 max. dim. 133x100 base dim.
    • Artificial Base Island: 1 Km. Diameter
    • Structure: Micro-structured High Strength Concrete (2.000 Kg/cm2)

According to my memory, I've read both of the news of the 2 buildings and they aren't going to be built in Hong Kong, because of too high. Though it's a great building, Hong Kong citizans aren't enjoying having both of them, at least I think so. I think they don't come pretty with the relief of Hong Kong and the coastline of the Victoria Harbour. Also, common typhoons and height limitaions are also factors affecting the establishment of the buildings. I've read books that mentioned generally most of the buildings will not be higher than the hills behind them when they're looked at some special angles. Height limitation can produce a harmonious feeling - Hills hugging around the CBD.

well none of them is going to be built, not for the foreseeable future. Creators of either were cruising the world trying to convince some suckers to buy the idea, but that what it actually is just an idea! Economics of such a structure (yes boring for most crowd here, but still very real) are out of wack!28.gif

I doubt it could be built anywhere in the world (even in Dubai – which is known to build something just for the height sake – to set a record and pray it will some how pay back in tourism revenue, but if you look at the design of Burj Dubai you’ll see key selling feature of it you can just add floors to it and quite a bit to the spire if your foundation is solid enough, so you can alter height during construction without redesigning the whole structure.- perfect record breaker design. Both towers shown here are of entirely different nature, they are more of a technology demonstrators. But who’ll pay for it? Obviously no-one at the moment.15.gif

I think 50 year is too long time to wait... we shall see it already in say 15... I read somewhere that Dubai's oil will run out in 2010. Not sure that this is 100% accurate, but broadly it corresponds to other sources and basic decision to push for new non oil economy Dubai was so active at...

EDIT Paul I'm 100% on you with this! Height for Height sake?? stupid! Althoug i kind of like the Bionic one.. but Millenium, proposal is just nonesence... and mind you think how any of them look at street level and how and where could it ever be placed!?

The bionic tower looks so wierd! At least the Millenium tower would look decent! I mean, it looks like it would be placed sort of far away from the HK CBD, but still ok. I think it's good that neither are getting built.

new building approved in Dubai. Sceduled to be finished in 2009, it has 77 floors. It's due to the design I post it here. It's quite interesting. (excuse me if the news is already outdated)

It's called 'Emirates Park Towers Hotel & Spa'

here's a render of the complex:

The Millenium tower wouldn't get built. People are already protesting the reclamation of land in Victoria Harbour. The reclamation of land you see in HK currently is a scaled down version of the original plan. The original plan called for further reclamation along Wanchai and a large section in Kennedy Town (west side of HK island). I am sure that if the Millenium tower was planned for real, people would be quite mad, even pissed. There might be a lot tall buildings built in HK, but don't underestimate the residents when they don't like what they see.

ermmm...not really. Our projects tend to be spontaneous...if there happens to be a cool building with some good photo reference of it then maybe somebody goes.."Wow!! I got dibs on that one!" And we do it. I've had many requests for Union Square Projects but I was going to do them anyway...

    Thank you bixel.

You and the HK BAT-Team are the most impressive group for me here at simtropolis.

If I can blow your mind from time to time with such impressions, I will do that *hehe*  9.gif

Unfortunately I can't find further pictures of Shimao Riviera. I had found the webpage of the Shimao Corp. but these guys don't show pictures of their projekts. 14.gif

    How's your work @Sorrento ? Are you ready ?
