^ If I had MAX, I would render them for you... but I don't. But if anyone needs a massive (long) gmax render... I can do that. 4.gif

Paul! Do you have another version of the file?? May be one of some previous saves??

This one is keep crashing my MAX!!!

The problem is that the way you've modeled it it wouldn't render well with Mental Ray. You Mullions are way, WAY to thin! First of all it isn’t correct for this particular building, as those aren’t really mullions. Look at this picture:

untitled3vu3.jpg

But I perfectly agree with the idea that for simplification those could be done the way they are, but  and this is a big one !! Look at the size of them in relation of that man arm!! Even at the angle they do appear wide, significantly wide that the arm in the overall! So I would say about 15-20 cm (instead of 6).

The problem with Mental Ray is that FG and also AA are straggling with very small objects and with plains that are too close to each other. Photons are leaking through. This is a reason for those black spots on the "frame" you were getting. Since all you pictures were so small they weren't really noticeable (plus great styling you've made out of this building - really puts MAXIS on to shame!!). But these are the realities you have to take into account when modeling. Scale - not only original, but also presentational and renderers capabilities should be considered right from the start.

The picture above is made in another renderer, not MR. Its algorithms are capable of picking details (with AA and GI) apparently much better, but it inevitably crashes with this model...

This is a serious issue and you should take it into account with other models as well. One solution, if you want to keep your “mullions” quite so thin would be to give them depth – realistic one 10-15 cm and to avoid having anything crossing them close under the outward facing face (sorry for that one). Still for the sake of saving a lot of headache and A LOT of rendering time, just make them at least 10cm wide. The same problem exists in Lippo, but there it is hidden by the dark color and off those reflections. On BOC due to the fact that big expanses are facing the sky and the it is so bright it does look like an eyesore.
I’ll be looking through to find out what causes these crashes but if you have may be some earlier versions (prior to say lighting stage) send to me just to test

Bixel:

Nope it is in same version... I wonder if it is something in materials. Program crashes when any save is attempted (including autosave) and also when some settings are changed. So this way I can not save new version of the file (with a new name, naturally). That only happens when a particular renderer is activated. With MR everything is fine...

The Lippo Centre is in its rendering stage and should be rendered as soon as Simfox has time for it.

In the meantime I've been working on another building from Hong Kong:

    The Bank of America building:

Looks great so far, but those windows seem rather flat/textured onto the wall

It appears as if Bank of America has one architect!!! The one I'm BATing from Tampa looks almost exactly the same!

Also, I'm having an issue creating the Bank of America text and Sign to make it look real, and the one in Tampa has the same top as yours, can you help me out please? 4.gif
