If you could choose, where would you want to live (country and continent)?

Please also tell us why, or if you want to stay where you are now, please motivate.

I live in Finland and if someone would ask me now, I would tell him that Central Europe is the place for me. Why? Because I've lived there before, and I just love it.

It's beatiful, there's a lot to see and it's just a nice place to live.

Of course America also intrests me, in fact our family got the oppurtunity to move to Toronto, Canada last summer, but we passed it. I would have wanted to move, but since I'm still a minor, it wasn't up to me.

So people, tell us your opinion, i hope we could make this an interesting conversation, just like a similar previous post (nyc vs la vs chicago, thanks for the idea spacenuteskimo 2.gif)

Well it's always hard to objectively consider things when it's your home. For me Canada is the only place I can see myself ever living. If I were going to go elsewhere though, given that I can only speak English, the UK, New England  (not really interested in the rest of the US), Australia or New Zealand would be my picks.

North America of course and probably somewhere in Florida like the Miami area. Because I visit that area so many times and I end up loving that area despite the risky real estate market and hurricanes.

Either the southern US, or Australia, I just want to be where I can understand everyone, and there isn't too cold.

Well I currently live in New Jersey and it's difficult to think of living anywhere else, considering how much I love my state. 3.gif

But if I did have to choose to live somewhere else, it would probably be Germany. Great food, an amazing landscape in many parts, a very interesting history and I'm currently learning German. 2.gif

Well i am from Norway, like it here, safest place to live on the face of this earth, but kinda cold. I have also lived in Southern Germany for two years, but there is two problems;

1.I HAVE to live close to the ocean.

2.The Föhn wind really kills you in the summer, and the only thing you want to do is, well to take a nice dip in the ocean, but.. oh no!!

And well language isnt really a problem, you can always learn it. Theres really not much too it, if you JUST REALLY want to learn it, or has to...

So my pics would either be... hmm... Here in southern Norway, China or Australia 9.gif

One thing i know, I don't want to live in the US, no offence. I would like to visit some cities, but not to live there.

take care

you left africa off

Probably somewhere in the US. either here in texas or in california. I guess that would just be the most comfortable to me.

If i had to outside NA, i would want to live in the UK.

I wouldnt want to live in asia or africa but i wouldnt mind visiting them. Oceania is cool but i dunno.

I had choose Asia. I think that the best "urban jungles" are in Asia. HK, Tokyo, Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul etc...

I would still want to live in the USA, but instead of Florida, I would rather live in the New England area. I really hate the heat down here, but I don't want to be at 5 degrees F all the time, so New England is really where I would want to be. Oregon might also be nice.

Rome, Italy, of course.  I'd have to learn Italian, but my Spanish is good, and they're both based on Latin.  Shouldn't be that hard.

I could probably be happy living anywhere in the US that isn't too far south. Heat is not my thing.

Anywhere else is out of the question since moving to another country is too much of a hassle and not something I'd want to go through. Besides, I'm an American citizen, and that's not something I want to give up.If I had to choose another country, though, it would of course be Canada.

Granted, there are other places out there that might be interesting, but the reasons I wouldn't live there are always the same as the resons I wouldn't vacation there.

Japan looks interesting, and while I don't know Japanese, I can learn. The big issue here is twofold. First, I can't stand Japanese food. Second, Japan has a very honor-bound society, and they don't take kindly to foreigners. You are generally thought less of there if you aren't Japanese (which I am not). I wouldn't want to live with that.

Italy also looks interesting, and I do know some Italian. Of course, the food issue is still there. Italian food in America is not at all the same as Italian food in Italy. While I can claim to like Pizza, it's really "New Yorker" pizza that I'm a fan of. Italian pizza looks absolutely repulsive to me. Also, Italy has the unfortunate circumstance of being a part of Europe and of the EU, which is a political nightmare. I frankly would rather deal with the American politicians (who lack intelligence) than the European ones (who lack balls of any kind). At least around here I'm not condemned as a bigot for expressing my unpopular opinions (Which In Europe I no doubt would be).

Amen to that brother. A friend of mine has lived in a place called George near Cape Town for years now and loves it. Cape Town would have to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I have lived for a time in both Australia and the UK and have visited many more places, but I'm afraid there just 'aint no place like home. I prefer the urban sprawls of the 'colonies' over the high rise projects of Europe, Asia and Downtown North America. I want a lawn in my yard with room for the kids to play, and I need to smell the Pacific. If I couldn't live in New Zealand, I'd opt for Tonga or Samoa, Australia or California if I wanted to live in a city.

Actually according to the UN's human development index  the US and the UK aren't no.1 and no.2 they're actually further down the list.

1. Norway

2. Iceland

3. Australia

4. Luxembourg

5. Canada

6. Sweden

7. Switzerland

8. Ireland

9. Belgium

10. USA

11. Japan

12. Netherlands

13. Finland

14. Denmark

15. UK

Furthermore, since 1980 only two countries have consistently ranked at the top and it's not the US and the UK it's Canada and Norway. Switzerland and Japan also made the top ranking over the period, but Canada and Norway pretty much were on top the whole time with the US and UK no where to be found.

The point of all this being that you can enjoy a good quality of life in any of these countries and one being better than the other is probably pretty meaningless as a result, but still, perhaps you should check the facts before bragging and discounting the other 20 or 30 developed nations.

I'm just wondering but aren't most of the top 9 socialized in medicine in their countries.  'cause when I read that list thats what came to mind about them being the top ones.

Anyways, I chose the US.  I've lived in 5 different locations, and all have been a good experience.  Now I probably would choose to stay here because its what I know, I've never been outside the US.  If I had to live somewhere else I'd like to go to Canada probably or somewhere like New Zealand.  I wouldnt want to go to Europe, if I had to go there it would be the UK.  I dont know Europe seems so forgein to me. lol

But as I said, the US rocks.  Great life here and a cool place to be.

I would either pick Europe or America. Europe was and is a beautiful place to visit. The train system is great... the TVG (right?). However, Europe is way to crowded for me.

So I picked America over Europe because America is for any environment you want. Want desert? Go to Arizona. Want snow? Go to the north. Want heat? Go to Texas or Florida. Want rain? Go to Washington (state). Anything you want, it is in America. Including aliens. (Not really).

I picked Europe.  While I currently live in Australia, I don't think its all that it can be.  I would prefer to live in maybe France, or Sweden, if I could master one of their languages.

I would like to move out of Australia as soon as I finish school.  I'm not sure if it will happen but I would like to.

With me it's totally the other way - I live in Europe and would love to move to Australia. This is definately my favourite place in the world.

Not sure if it's gonna happen... :-(

See, Europe's also got all you need, well not really desert, but If you really feel a need to bathe in the sand, you can jump over the mediterranian to Sahara. 9.gif

Check out this map, it's about population density throughout the world.

I live in Melbourne Australia and it will always be home for me. I would like to live in other cities around the world for periods of time but wherever i go i will end up returning to Melbourne eventually. Most studies show Australia (at the moment at least) is one of the best places in the world in which to live in terms of health, safety, education, the economy, cost of living and the like. Melbourne along with the rest of the major Australian cities consistantly ranks at or near the top of the least as the world's most livable. If for no other reason, the weather here is great.

There are many cities in the world I love to spend time in but where i will choose to live permanently has more to do with quality of life and practicality than how many tall buildings are there.

Actually the TGV doesn't go to the UK, only Eurostar. A TGV train cannot get through the channel tunnel for safety reasons as passengers cannot get from one end to the other unlike Eurostar. 1.gif

I have an issue with this. WIth the rain part aside. You can find all of this in Arizona! YAY ARIZONA! Really the only place I can think of where you can go from the desert to the forest in an hour and a half. If you put Phoenix out of your mind, its a nice place to live.

Also, I'd probably stay in the US. However, if I ever ended up moving out of the country, it would probably be Canada.. or Sweden.

Really, i think the best place to live is around the French Riveria.  Basically anywhere between Barcelona, Spain to Monaco (inbetween the French and Italian boarder) is a paradice of warm weather with an awsome landscape of grasslands surrounded by rolling hills.  Also, many of the cities in this area have class and a rich history, especially Nice, France.  Believe it or not, but this area has the same latitude as southwestern Ontario, Canada, where the temp. can dip below -20 degerees in the winter.  The good old Mediterranean sea keeps this area warm so palm trees grow and the weather is great all year round.

Heres a pic of the Cote' Dajaur (gold coast) of Nice, France
