  1. A Journey from Union City to Clevewood

Allright, here we go. The journey begins in a small village, Brunswick, which is the residental area for the workers at the industrial sector down the highway. The village consists of medium density low wealth and low density high wealth houses. Before the industry was built, the village only hosted rich people wanting to get away from the citys noise etc. But when the industrial area was built, some of the rich people moved away and sold their houses to apartment companies. That's why there are low and high wealth houses all mixed up. So anyway, our guy starts at the house shown below and heads for the highway via the main street. To the right, the guy gets onto the highway. To the left: Brunswick village, our departure point. To the right: the norhtern industrial sector of Brunswick with a freeway passing it from the west. Our next checkpoint is the first suburb of Union City, Cleveland. Since there isn't much to see, we will just pass it the quickest route and continue to Union City, where we will go for a little sightseeing tour.
  2. Hey everyone! I've been planning another kind of CJ, a "driving diary". I have played a region for about 6 months, it's not as nice as the others that you may find on this forum, but at least it looks like a city from up high. The region is still under construction, well the eastern part and the farmlands. That explains why there is straight lines where the zones end. I will try to develop my region as I'm doing this CJ. The trip will go from a small town south of Union City, Brunswick, through downtown UC which was my first city in the region. From there on out through the suburbs towards the rural areas in the east. The destination is a small village east of Clevewood, Gregoryville. The distance is not big, there is 2 large and 2 medium tiles between the downtowns. If this cj turns out to be intresting, I will expand my region and build new cities to make journeys to. This is my first cj so please be patient and try to understand. Here's a map of the region and the route I will go through.
  3. Want desert? Go to Arizona. Want snow? Go to the north. Want heat? Go to Texas or Florida. Want rain? Go to Washington (state). Anything you want, it is in America. Including aliens. (Not really).quote> Want desert? Go south. Want snow? Go to Norway/Sweden/Finland. Want heat? Go to Italy/Spain/Portugal/Greece. Want rain? Go to Belgium. See, Europe's also got all you need, well not really desert, but If you really feel a need to bathe in the sand, you can jump over the mediterranian to Sahara. Check out this map, it's about population density throughout the world.
  4. If you could choose, where would you want to live (country and continent)? Please also tell us why, or if you want to stay where you are now, please motivate. I live in Finland and if someone would ask me now, I would tell him that Central Europe is the place for me. Why? Because I've lived there before, and I just love it. It's beatiful, there's a lot to see and it's just a nice place to live. Of course America also intrests me, in fact our family got the oppurtunity to move to Toronto, Canada last summer, but we passed it. I would have wanted to move, but since I'm still a minor, it wasn't up to me. So people, tell us your opinion, i hope we could make this an interesting conversation, just like a similar previous post (nyc vs la vs chicago, thanks for the idea spacenuteskimo )
  5. Interchange Developments

i have for some reason saved the interchange tutorial on my computer, if u want it i can post it.
  6. AGS Pesapallo Stadium

  7. On-Slope Ground Highway to Elevated Highway

Hey I've also been looking for a similar mod but haven't found anything this far. So I came up with this little piece of work. I've simply used the NAM avenue puzzle pieces. It ain't no eyecandy but it serves its purpose. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//fwy%20slope.jpg align=baseline>
  8. Transport - Ability to make curved roads. A good example would be the rails in Railroad Tycoon 3. - Customizable mass transit. It'd be cool to be able to choose what ur busses, trains etc would look like without having to download plugins for that purpose) - More lanes. Or maybe even a tool to select amount of lanes. Upgradable roads (building wider roads without deleting the smaller one first). - Underground roads. The straight tunnels in SC4 are pretty ok. But I'd like to see an underground roadmaking tool similar to the subway tool. As most of my cities are overcrowded (several freeways with 20 000 each and avenues the same) I'd really love to make underground freeways with exits going to the surface. - As many others, customisable fares. I'm pretty sure I forgot something, hope it'll come back soon. Zones - Someone already mentioned it but I'll repeat it. I'd like to limit areas from developing into a mixed lowmediumhighwealth 1-2-3-4-5 storey house mess. Under residental zones there would be as there is now Low, Medium and High density. When u click on of them a little box would appear with a pile of tickboxes for selecting if u wanna limit the zone to one-family 2 storey houses or bigger ones. Another alternative would be to remove the low-medium-high density and replace them with either amount of storeys or how many people the house/building can house (amount of employees in commercial and industrial) - Limit commercial zones from developing into mixed bunches of office and shops. It really pisses me off when I try to make a pedestrian shopping area when half of the buildings that rise are crappy office buildings. - Someone also mentioned he wanted buildings with mixed res and com. I love the idea of having 1-3 storeys of shops below and then aparments on top. Once again I'm sure I had someting more in mind. Not that there ain't already enough ideas here but it's so damn annoying when u can't remember stuff u were thinkin about a couple of minutes earlier, especially when u have the topic in front of you. Aight I'll cut the crap and go on. Safety - Growable stuff, lots of it. I hate building ten thousand hospital to cover every single squaremeter (approx the same as yard for the americans) in a large city. A solution for this would be growable hospitals. Why did Maxis only make airports growable, why not other buildings too, especially the ones that get crowded as the city grows. The same system could be applied to jails, why have the 800 inmate prisons when the most I've ever reached in a prison is around 250. In this context I wanna mention once again an idea that has already been posted. The one giant city region. I love it. But IF the makers of the game still decide to keep the several smaller cities line, PLEASE don't make every city have a City Jail. Make prisoners a ware of trade as electricity, waste and garbage is. Like this there would be not one prison in every city but one larger prison in one of them. I'm sure there's something more I wanted to mention.... Others - Telephone lines - Mountains - Terraforming a region at one time, not city by city. - Unregular lots. Every lot is either a square or a rectangle. I don't like it. Use of imagination would be more than welcome. - Misc things that affect other things Strict laws -> more cops, more money. Less crime Easy laws -> less cops, less money. More crime The laws would of course be customizable. Bad weather -> more accidents, more emergency crew work, more money. Good weather -> less accidents etc. Control the media -> weather reports would acceft traffic and how people drive. The media has a very big variety of ways to affect people so find it unneccesary to list it all. ... and a lot more. Once again use ur imagination. Make it as realistic as possible. - Random catastrophes. The riots in SC3 were nice. And if they would be random along with hurricanes, fires, acid rain, u name it, that would be much more realistic than the car robots and ufos in SC4. Of course let's say acid rains don't appear in Siberia of what I know. Why? Because. What I'm trying to say here is that the city would affect its enviroment. The city would also affect its citizens. Like the riots in Paris in the end of 2005. They didn't start out of nothing. There was a reason for it. On the other side, let's not forget that the game is not only for the more advanced players in Simtropolis. When I was let's say 10 which was about 6 years ago, I played SC 3. Back then I just wanted to create a bunch of big houses. I didn't have a clue of what pollution was nor did I know how a city works. A possibility to choose between simple and advanced mode would be very appropriate for this. It's been almost and hour that I've been writin this text now. Please excuse me for my English, I know there are a lot of errors. English is my 3rd language after Finnish and Swedish along with French. Thanks for reading! //Jere Finland Now that I've taken a shower I just came to think about a couple of things. - Customizable view. Look at Railroad Tycoon 3, they have a very good camera system. It can be turned in all directions, up down right left, where ever u wanna go. - Restriction of same buildings in a certain area(optional). I hate getting 3 or 4 Mc Donald'ses beside eachother.
  9. Highway Planning and Architecture

I could add a little more to zeddics posts on the Finnish freeways. I live about 35 miles east of Helsinki in a little town called Porvoo. Lemmie present our freeway system: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Image3.jpg align=baseline> As you see, we have a dual carriageway freeway coming from Helsinki (west) going eastbound. A couple of years ago, me and my friends went to a brigde crossing this concrete miracle. The goal was to count the amount of Russian trucks carrying cars. After 10 minutes, we saw a caravane of 10 or 11 Russian trucks coming towards us. So our freeways heading eastbound towards St Petersburg are mainly used by Russian trucks shipping cars from Finnish harbors to St Petersburg and other western parts of Russia. The dual carriageway ends about 20 miles east of Porvoo, then at the city of Kotka we have a 20 miles? of dual carriageway and the rest is single carriageway (1 lane both directions). I've been living in central Europe for 10 years and our house in Brussels was about 100 yards away from a main freeway, the E411 running to downtown. After living 6 years beisde an 8 lane freeway, you learn to appriciate the Finnish quietness.
  10. well since this seems to be an insteresting thread i thought about adding a couple of interchanges from my ex homecountry belgium. this first one is from the freeway from downtown brussels to brussels intl airport crossin the brussels ring road. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Image2.jpg width=29 align=baseline> This second one is from the same Brussels ringroad but this time crossing the E411 from downtown Bru to Luxemburg. It's actually pretty funny cuz this one is built like a maze where u have to stop and look in every direction unless u want ur car crushed. I lived close to this maze and every morning i cud hear ambulances taking people from this maze. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Image1.jpg width=29 align=baseline> So there is no ramps on this one. Just the E411 passing under the R0 and on top of both of them is a maze. Pretty nice design huh?
