About This File

FROGFACE: Brighton Pavillion

------------------------

BAT Building

------------------------

George the Prince of Wales (to become King George IV) and his wife, bought a small farm house in what was then the village of Brighthelmstone. "Prinny's" penchant for sea bathing helped to transform this small rural community into a mecca of high society.

Over a period of nearly fifty years, from 1783 (when he was only 21) to his death in 1830, George transformed the simple home. First, the farmhouse was incorporated into the Marine Pavilion (architect Henry Holland created a neo-classical villa). In 1803, William Porden built the huge Royal Stables in the Indian style, which soon dwarfed the Pavilion itself. Finally, John Nash took seven years to add sumptuous state rooms to the Pavilion and recreate the exterior into the Indian/Chinese edifice we see today.

Yay, I get the first comment. This is wonderful Froggy. I think the only thing that could make this better is if you converted it into a rail station. It reminds me very much of the way the buildings looked at the Chicago World Fair (a long time ago).

Good job Frogface. MrB probably like this picture zoomed out so you can see it all, me personally, I would prefer a close up showing more details. I guess that how various people differ isn't it.

Oooh, Brighton! I was there several years ago with my grandparents. Nice choice for a new landmark.

Wow... this is spectacular! Thanks for making this masterpiece Frogface, SimCity really does have a shortage of European landmarks.
