About This File

Jonica Modpack

This JSON file allows you to install the Jonica modpack that I currently use in my standard gameplay.

Please note that this modpack is only compatible with SimCity 4 version 1.1.641 (digital version available on Steam, GOG, and EA App). SimCity 4 versions other than the one indicated cannot install this modpack.

Please note that this package will receive updates in the near future. Please do not redistribute it without first asking for permission, as this would complicate the efforts required to maintain, update, and provide adequate technical support for the package.

Installation

Start SC4Pac and create a new instance. After creating the new instance, go to the My Plugins section and press the Import button to import the modpack using this JSON File

This pack includes CAM, assumes IRM is used, and is configured for US road textures and RHD. In clean sc4pac situations, it will also result in many GBs of downloads. Shouldn't the description mention that, including an "Only import this 1-on-1 if you know what you're doing" kinda warning?

That being said, I like the idea of sharing sc4pac configs like this. Just not sure it should be offered like this as a mod. Perhaps it's a whole new kind of category?

This is a pilot mod, as it is the first time ever that a modpack has been released, so we are playing around with it a bit. Right now, it is a mod that falls into a gray area between the various rules of Simtropolis, SC4Evermore, and r/simcity4, so some minor changes need to be made.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I just updated the description, adding the main variants.

Sc4pac may be alright for some people, but 99% of us still need a common download!    and the filesize should be listed so we can determine if we have the room for it    This JSON file wont open for me

This download is specifically for SC4Pac users, so if you are still using the manual method, do not download the modpack. Furthermore, the JSON file can only be read with SC4Pac and Notepad if you want to see the list of mods without SC4Pac, but there are no links, so tracking down the mods can be difficult.

Many people have started migrating to the SC4Pac format despite the lack of many mods because it is a versatile tool. It takes time, but it is essentially already a useful tool.

It is too early to talk about file size, but it is already assumed that downloading a modpack requires GB of free memory. There are modpacks that reach 20 GB, so you can deduce that on average you need 10 GB of free memory to download a modpack.

When importing a mod set JSON file, you don't need to install all of it. Sc4pac allows you to select the packages you want and also gives you the option to choose different variants than defined in the JSON file. For example, you could just as well choose EU textures and LHD mode.

@Ulisse Wolf There are a few things that can be improved here though:

Variant choices that are completely up to the user, such as roadstyle or driveside, don't need to be part of the JSON. You can simply omit them, as your mod pack most likely works just as well for EU textures and LHD. Some other variants, such as edition=Windows-digital, can be kept – to indicate that they are required for the mod pack. If the mod pack only makes sense with US textures, keep it as well.

Creating a new profile isn't strictly necessary. The JSON file can be imported into an existing profile, but with such a big mod pack, the risk of conflicts is higher, such as with the already mentioned CAM and IRM.

Don't star dependencies. I repeat – don't star dependencies. Dependency resolution is done by sc4pac automatically. The JSON file currently lists a huge amount of unnecessary packages. Some examples:

  • Many prop packs are installed, even though nothing at all depends on them. They are useless. You can probably unstar the entire 100-props-textures folder and more.
  • You included diego-del-llano:complete-collection, so listing all the del Llano landmarks one by one is redundant.
  • You included NAM:network-addon-mod, so listing all the other NAM packages is redundant.
  • etc.

Not starring dependencies (a) ensures that no packages are installed that aren't needed and (b) helps keep the import dialog shorter (and redundance-free) where users would select the packages to install. Selecting from 1600 packages is a bit overwhelming.

I was thinking the same thing. Currently, the import method automatically imports variants. Perhaps we could add a system that forces the user to select variants or omit variants when importing a JSON file.

The main purpose is to rebuild the analog modpack I'm using, so many of these dependencies are placeholders until the relevant mods are put online. As I said, it's a modpack that will need updating in the future because I still have to transfer the entire modpack and many elements are missing, and tracking down many of these mods is difficult.
