About This File

(After "leeching" from Simtropolis for so long I thought it might be time to actually try and make something myself...so I thought this rather simple structure might be a good way of getting to grips with the BAT. Thanks for the people who wrote the BATing tutorials in the Omnibus!)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cenotaph

Cenotaphs are best known as memorials, built mainly by the British Empire and the Commonwealth dominions, to commemorate the war dead of World War One.

This particular cenotaph is based on the one in Hong Kong. However, the light texture of the memorial itself bears a greater resemblance to the one in London (which was the basis for the Hong Kong Cenotaph anyway).

As this is my first ever attempt, please tell me if there is something I should have/could have done better. Sorry in advance for the mediocre wreaths...if anyone has any tips with that it would be greatly appreciated. Sorry also for not being able to render the words "THE GLORIOUS DEAD"...

Stats:

Size - 3x3

Plop Cost - 5000

Monthly Cost - 10

Bulldoze Cost - 100

Flammability - 0

Landmark Effect - 20 over a radius of 10 cells

Max Fire Stage - 5 (aka can't really burn down)

Mayor Rating Effect - 10 over a radius of 256 cells

Pollution, Water Consumption, and Power Consumption - 0

Scale - Width is scaled up by a factor of around 2-4; height is scaled up by a factor of around 3.

Very nice BAT, but the lot is terrible. It needs a lot more detail, and perhaps a few sims standing around. A few trees, as well. I'll download this, and give it a try, but if i were you, i'd try to put at least a few details on the lot and give it less of a "vanilla" look.

I give it 4/5. it is quite good for a first attempt.:thumb: Keep it up!

Sorry for double posting, but why is this a RAR file? That type of file is VERY inconvenient.

A very good representation of a war memorial (which often do have a blank space around it, trees and stuff wouldn't go) however it is a .rar....

BAT is good, but the lotting is...I'd say, underrated.

I do live in HK and I will say that it's really empty like that. It's just a lawn and the place is closed off most of the time to the public. Though, I do think the lot was about three times as large.

Good work :)

The cenotaph looks great but the lot is empty. However because I can fix it with the Lot Editor, I'll give you 5/5
Keep it up, but next time don't forget to make a nice lot as well :)

What's the problem with RAR files, anyway? Get a good free and open-source application like 7-Zip, and it's very likely that you'll never have to worry about archive formats again because that software pretty much covers all regular formats like ZIP, RAR, TAR.GZ etc. etc.

profxyz, I think that's a really decent first upload, and you have my respect for taking that step from "leecher" to uploader. You made a good choice, too, by starting with a smaller object. Are you planning to open a BAT thread? I'm asking because IMO that would be a better place to give feedback and discuss things. In any case, keep it up!

Go there, then search for the "start a new topic" button, and then press it...your BAT thread is done.

Pretty good. I will use Lot Editor to add some random people to it I think. Some cenotaphs, for example the one in Ottawa, are in highly used public spaces so there is some foot traffic.

Could maybe use a little more work & the lot could use some props though, but it is nicely done for your first.I think you should keep praticing as you have
potential.^_^

Wow I am surprised somebody would do the HK Cenotaph. It seems almost 1/2 of Central District of HK is done by now. About the lot size, I think 3x3 is fine, because the AIG Tower located very near it almost has the same lot size, and Cockatoo's AIG Tower is available on the STEX as a 3x3 lot. Perhaps this would receive a better rating if it is done as a 2x2, but the current 3x3 bare lot actually quite authentic, for those who don't know. Therefore, I am giving this a 5/5 to raise its mediocre sub 4.0 rating.
