About This File

Sandbox Regions - Small, Medium and Large

These plain and simple regions are suitable for sandbox testing of new downloads, importing backup copies of important tiles, or any other purpose where a separate, straight forward no frills region is required.

The package includes:

Blue Sandbox - Large 4x4
Green Sandbox - Medium 4x4
Red Sandbox - Small 8x8

These regions do not require any rendering, they come ready to use. The regions can be renamed by renaming the folders before they are installed.

Unzip and place the folders in:
My Documents> SimCity 4> Regions

*If further sandbox regions are required, simply make a copy of the config file, place in a new folder with a new name, and then place in the SimCity 4> Regions folder.

**If you would like to change the size of the sandbox maps yourself this can be easily done by editing the config files in a imaging editing program such as Paint.

The Formula is:
One small tile equals 1x1 red pixels.
One medium tile equals 2x2 green pixels.
One large tile equals 4x4 blue pixels.

...now before 'some of you' all rush in here again and say things like - that is easy anyone can make a config file, just remember... not every one knows how. Also while it is true that you can make a plain region with 'new region'... that gives you a large region with a mixture of tile sizes. This download is aimed for those who would like a smaller region of a particular size tile for a specific purpose.

Hmm...I would say something about city tiles and rule violations but this seems small enough (in file size terms) to be a case of 'meh'

Anyway, good to see some newb friendly uploads around and about, especially for maps which people can find confusing at times.

Yes, it´s user friendly and useful for a lot of people who only want to play the game or begin with it. Good idea, i´ll give 5/5

No rule violations... because there are no actual rendered tiles, only a config file. The game make its own tiles when you open the game.

Oh and these are certainly not 'just for newbs'... I am a veteran player, and I use sandbox regions all the time for testing, backups and any other time when I don't want to take up a tile in my main playing region.

I was experimenting with config files just yesterday, actually. Is there a minimum size they can be? Can I have a 6x6 tileset, for instance?

Yes you can... for a 6x6 small region you would need to change the red config file to 6x6 pixels. One small tile equals 1x1 pixels.

The 4x4 medium region green config is 8x8 pixels so one medium tile equals 2x2 pixels.

The 4x4 large region blue config is 16x16 pixels so one large tile equals 4x4 pixels.

The config files can be easily altered in Paint, to suit your own needs.

*It is also important to use the correct shade of red, green and blue when making your own config file... the easiest way is to copy the colour with the colour picker tool of the image editing program you are using.

The small map will prove useful for brainstorming possible neighborhood designs with the Sims 2. Now that that game's back in everyone's memory with the thing Origin did at the end of last month, It's good that I found this file.
