About This File

A fantasy discount clothing store.  This is my first upload so constructive critisizm would be nice if any is needed.  Model made using Google Sketchup.  Don't think there are any dependencies.

This model does nothing.  It is just eye candy built on a 3 x 5 lot.  Plopable only.  Cost 110,000 to build.  Under the landmarks menu (named 'Custom Plopable')..

Anyways...hope you enjoy.

Looks nice, but maybe some better textures and some cars in the parking lot. And like is told to most beginners, open a BAT thread if you don't have one already.

^agree, cars would help this and textures are soft. it really looks like you are on the right track though. better than i can do at this point. a bat thread is a goldmine of info, i can't tell you how many things i've learned reading through them

I'll give it 4 stars, it isn't bad for your first lot. I would also place something on he roof or make a slightly different texture for it , if you leae it like this it looks a bit empty.

It's not a bad model, but it looks a little bland, still not bad for a first. 4/5 from me.

Thanks for the input! I think the main problem is that the textures are from Sketchup so not as detailed as GMAX but I will try to perfect them. Thanks again for your comments!

From the looks of it, its a pretty good attempt in sketchup. But it needs better textures, like most said, and needs some more detail. From my experience, I would have to edit the textures once in Gmax.

Also, when texturing, it helps to look at other models(Maxis buildings for example) and see how their textures look to see how you should edit/make your textures. ;) Hope that helps! 4/5

tkuelker you can find some great textures over here: http://www.cgtextures.com/ I use that site a lot for my BATs. Couldn't work without it ;).

The lot is extremely bare, void of any cars. Unless they're timed/randomized prop-groups? Also, I think $110,000 is a bit much for a plop cost here.

@ tkuelker@gmail.com: If you haven't made a BAT thread yet, it might be a good idea to open one up, you can get even more feedback there.

Well...Awesome first upload. But as others have pointed out is that roof junk is a must and cars in the parking lot is really a nice feature. Your right the textures on sketch up will not be as detailed so you might want to work on that. Besides that and opening a BAT thread I wish you good luck on your work and look forward to your future projects. =)

This should have been posted in a BAT thread for feedback before submitting to the STEX. Textures need major work, and I'm assuming there are no nightlights. Also, it says you "don't think" there are any dependencies; as the uploader, you should be able to positively confirm whether there are dependencies or not, and what they are if they are present. That's part of your requirements as an uploader...

In fact, I can positively confirm that there IS at least one dependency, namely the parking lot textures, which are no default textures. Here I go again: Always make lots using a separate plugins folder that contains nothing but the dependencies you want to use, and always test with a plugins folder that contains nothing but the lot itself and the dependencies you mention in the description.

ploppable only? the model looks generic, and I like that. But can you make it growable? Also, for ploppable stuff, the plopping price is quite high.

great start, but more textures and details, and maybe some cars in the parking lot would make this lot so much better.

I second what everybody had said. Your first effort is low-key bland, but your approach seems practical. I've seen way way way worse first efforts. Cheers.

too expensive, needs cars, needs jobs. Change those things and I'll download. Great first upload!

Not bad at all actually for a first upload. If you use sketchup 7 which is free to download, you can go to a thing called photo textures which uses google street view so you can transfer real life textues into sketchup which solves the textures problem. Also, try experimenting a bit just to get a feel of what looks good and what doesn't and I think I'll second what other people are saying, put a picture on a B.A.T thread before posting but otherwise, good start.

He must Have sketchup pro , because the normal sketchup can't export files that gmax can read

Wait a second, Sketchup? It is amazing for a sketchup model, but please learn to BAT. If you can do this in sketchup, I think you would do great in BAT. You should work on the props and lotting, as well as add roof junk, and then submit an updated version of this model.

I think it just needs some cars, roof crap (e.g. ventilation ducts), a little bit of greenery like a flower bed or two and a smaller car park, maybe taking up 3 tiles instead of 11. It could also have a few new textures, but thats not a big priority for me. Very good sketchup model though. I give it a 3/5.
