Raise the UI Mod  1.0

About This File

This tiny mod simply moves the the region name and the whole mayor user interface up by about 40 pixels.

Why would you want to do that?

Well if you change the games resolution to the same size as your screen, but run it in window mode it will look almost full screen (there will be no borders) but you will still have the windows taskbar at the bottom allowing you to switch applications easily and without waiting for the screen to go black and then go to the desktop as it does in full screen mode. The trouble with this is that the windows task bar covers up some of the UI. So this mod just moves the UI above the taskbar.

Only for people who have their windows taskbar on the bottom of the screen (most people)

Setup

To set SimCity to Windowed mode with the same resolution as you screen:

  1. Right click the SimCity 4 Icon, Click properties.

  2. In the target box after the last double quote (") type this (with the spaces, without quotes):
    -w -customresolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32

  3. Replace the 1920x1080 with your screen resolution, so if you have a 1600x1200 resolution you would type:
    -w -customresolution:enabled -r1600x1200x32

  4. Click Apply and then OK and start SimCity 4.

Installation

There is only one file in the zip which can go anywhere in the plugins folder.

It is incompatible with SimMars, The black UI mod (found on a Japanese site), and another other mod that recolours or modifies only the 2 sections of UI shown in the above screen shots.

It works fine with mods that modify other parts of the UI such as the God Terraforming in mayor Mode.

Doesn't work on a 800x600 resolution, however hardly anybody has this resolution, and if you are playing at 800x600 you won't want to play in a window at that resolution, you'll what all the screen you can get.

(Based on Windows 7's taskbar, which is thicker than previous Taskbars. Vut this still works on other operating systems.)

This mod is only 7KB.

If you have a problem use the comments, there is no support thread for this, but I will quite happily answer questions/problems in the comments here on the STEX.

you know what in fact... you REALLY needed this! my laptop screen native resolution is 1366x768 so i set the custom resolution of SC4 to this but the task bar would cover up the name and settings and what not so i was forced to hide the task bar. but this helps alot cause i dont like hiding the task bar, thanks

I can't tell you how long I've been looking for a fix for this. No more sacrificing playability for windowed mode.

i really need this mod bu i can't be able to make it works, just put it in plugins dir and modify the shorcut to get a 1920x1080x32 but the UI didn't raise...any solutions?

Nice mod. I had already shrunk my Win7 taskbar to half height so that I could see most of the city name, though it was still annoying. This allows me to see the whole bottom of the screen. Thanks!

Wow! I so needed this mod :)

I play SC4 on a 17 inch widescreen monitor & it's sett to 1400x900 & in windowed mode the UI is sunk 4 or 5 pixel height into the bottom of the screen :( Even when hiding the taskbar the UI is still sunk a bit so I need to "raise" the window by dragging the top of the window a bit up to hide the window border at the top. But doing this only frees up 3 pixel heights so the UI is still a bit sunk. This mod raises the UI a lot that I no longer need to raise the window :) Too bad this only affects the "build mode" UI & not the U-Drive it! UI noe if I can only find one that raises that up I'd be fully solved!

Thank you for making this. I absolutely needed exactly what this does. If there was an award for Mod of the Century this would be up there with the best.

I also would like to thank you for making this.  I was running in windowed mode and the task bar blocked the stuff at the bottom.  So I switched the auto-hide to on.  Well that made the bottom of the sim city window fall off the bottom of the screen so the menu was still obscured.  Luckily I found your mod.  Even after running it, some of the taskbar was still in the way, but that can be fixed by right clicking on the task bar and checking the box for small icons.  And now it fits perfectly.  It's nearly full screen this way, but I can still grab the top of the window if I have to get to my desktop.  Works really well.  Thanks again.

It is not for me, but it is good that you have taken the time to write a valid description (unlike some uploads).

Should anyone wish to alternate between windowed and full screen, you might find my following tutorial of potential use:

Beware however, my method does require the use of command line (batch file) scripting... *;)
