About This File

Suggested by our own Sfoz and based on the proposed concept of Dr. Klaus Lacknerof Columbia University, the Artificial Tree has come to SimCity. The concept is simple. As the wind blows through the artificial tree, carbon from the air is trapped on specially treated louvered plates. The wind then exits the rear of the tree... minus all that nasty carbon that keeps mucking up our air.

In reality, this is still an "on paper" only concept. However, it is estimated that a mere 250,000 of these "trees" placed in strategic locations globally could eliminate the alleged threat of global warming caused by the increasing carbon content in our atmosphere.

There are many details still to be worked out... like what to do with the billions of tons of carbon that would be collected each year. But its close enough now for our Utopian Goals in SimCity. We took the liberty of finishing up the design by adding a water maintenance & collection system, an electronics package for monitoring the status of the tree & triggering maintenance cycles, and adding communications to allow the tree to broadcast data back to a central station and to receive broadcasted commands. All of it, powered by a small photolytic cell atop one of the masts.

Although definitely a Utility in nature, it does not properly fit into any existing category of the game. Its is therefore technically a Landmark... but a truly functional one. Each Artificial Tree is rated at 50 TP (tree power) at the center... falling off to 8 TP at the edge of the 8-tile effect radius. In other words, a single artificial tree cleans as much air pollution as 50 Mayor Mode trees...but over a much larger area than the 2-3 tile effect of a normal tree.

At §4,200 a pop, they a'int cheap. But the monthly maintenance is only only §250 and it doesn't normally take very many to clean up an entire city. Placed near major air polluters like heavy industry and power plants, one or two trees can keep the air around a fairly large area clean & pristine.

* The trees use no external power but do require a small amount of water for collecting the carbon. Each tree also ups your Mayoral Rating to a small, fairly local degree.

This is great. You took an object that our would barly knows about, and turned it into something that the future planners of this world will see and use. Thanks. Great job on the graphics too.

Used it In a city with lots of dirty industry. Didn't do a thing no matter how many I placed in and around the pollution bubble so I'm sorry thumbs down. Though the idea behind it is brilliant and glad it works for others.

Not very good removing air pollution. It's okay with the industrial's pollution, not with pollution made by thee city traffic. In fact, the nature trees removes more air pollution than the artificial trees.

I have not noticed any discernible difference in the pollution levels in my cities after placing these. I love the idea, but I would like it even more if it worked.

WARNING!! Don't plop them too fast, it will make your game crash (I have over 200 STEX buildings and this is the only one that has done so). But, other than that it works and will improve your city. 7/10 only because of the crash

I love the concept of a pollution controller like this, but my only complaint is aesthetic, it looks like a cheese grater! (Not your fault, either, it's modeled after the real thing (an air cleansing cheese grater ;-)

great work. but please remove the word 'alleged' before threat of global warming. Only in america is global warming disputed. The rest of the world treats it as FACT. Please dont insult the rest of the world's intelligence just because americans are stupid.

Brilliant. Small detail though, they should produce a lot of garbage imo to reflect the collected carbon. :)

This is my brilliant idea to have special pipes that are found in the water pipe section but these pipes collect the filth carbon from your tree and lead straight to the landfill and then the waste to energy power plant just a thought so recycling can still continue. Yes it also occurred to me that trees will starve from lack of co2 so that could be bad.

Not all Americans are stupid, mind you, and to assume that the entire country of +300,000,000 people are only shows your own stupidity.

OT: Thank you very much for the BAT, Pegasus, it really is useful.
