DEDWD Transit Hub for GL Hwy 2  1.03

About This File

These lots came about out of a desire to get better use out of the Highways through busy areas, where adding more onramps just wasn't feasible. I also wanted to encourage public transport use; if I could get my sims onto busses on the fast highways, I could make their trip more efficient (i.e. shorter).

These lots act as a transit hub for bus and subway. Sims can bus/drive/walk to the station, then catch a bus along the highway, or jump on a subway train if you've connected it up. The lot must be plopped over a ground level highway (or plopped and have a GLHwy dragged through it). It should also be connected by road on the side(s) if you want the sims to be able to drive/bus to the station.

There are two sizes: 2w x 4d and 2w x 6d (for those that put access roads two tiles from the highway). The lots are found in the Misc Transit menu.

These lots are BSC Tracking Enabled (BTE) which means they may contribute to Reward Chains.

Yes! I'm going to use this with my replica of the Kansai Airport.

are you going to release a version for the asphalt highway for those who use that texture of highway?

Great idea!!The Bat is superb. Maybe the ramp is too small...a 3 tiles would be better IMO but it's a detail.

Good Work. Now I encourage you to make one for elevated highways! I have another idea too (see next comment) 8/10!

How about figuring out how to take a relatively long tunnel and develop a tansit enabled lot to be placed directly atop of it, that would basically do the same thing as what you have produced. The sims would enter/exit using a (possibly long) elevator shaft bring through the ground.

it's great, that was one missing thing ... any chance for elevated version ? and I assume there's no problem with NAM ?

Thx for the feedback folks. A few responses... 1. The difference between the two lots in this set is that one is four tiles wide and the other six. Other than that they're exactly the same (incl. subway station). 2. I don't plan on doing an asphalt texture version at this stage 3. I do plan on doing an ElHwy one eventually 4. Don't know if the elevator-shaft lot would work, interesting idea though.

Folks, the 6x2 lot has a transit limit of 100 instead of the 10,000 that it should (I cloned the 4x2 to make the 6x2 so I don't know how it was reset). I'll upload a fixed set tonight.

Same comment as with the first version(Awesome but longer ramp.). I never give 10/10 unless it's absolutely perfect so here's 9/10.

A great lot, and not as far-fetched as it sounds--in Minneapolis, there is a bus stop on I-35W at Lake Street and people stand in the shelter behind some concrete barriers waiting for the bus as traffic flies by 20 feet away from them.

This is exactly what I needed. But when I downloaded it, to my great dissapointment, I got an .exe. Was this really necessary? Why leave out us Macintosh users?

Do I need to lay a subway exactly under the highway? Also subways have a small underground tile. Does the tunnel need to traverse this tile or any tile of this lot would also do?

Someone said it needs ramps, and I agree. The idea is fantastic but it suits a divided highway (w/ driveways and lower speeds) rather than a freeway... a sudden stop like this on a freeway would cause accidents, backups, and a touch of road rage. Ever think of adding a couple of tiles length-wise on each end for ramps, and using the extra tiles width-wise as parking lots? Just a thought that might add some realism to a brilliant idea. :-)

Folks v1.03 with the larger transit capacity for the 6x2 lot is here. DrZoidberg, have a look at the MAC forum for a disucssion on FileJuicer. It will allow you to open the installer exe's.

Folks, I won't be making the lot wider. The reason for making it 2tiles wide was for areas where there is limited space (i.e. no room for another on-ramp). There are areas where the game is not realistic; have a look at the size of the busstop beside one of the Maxis high-rises. Yes, having the short entrance is unrealistic, but so are many of the visual aspects of the game.
