About This File

Piece a what? Presenting the rarely-seen national sport of Finland...Pesapallo. From a foreigner's stand, the basis of the sport seems to have been invented when someone once decided to create a new sport, but ended up passing out drunk on top of a book of baseball rules. It's a sport like baseball, just twisted and converted around in all directions. The basepaths have changed places and order, and the pitcher is only four feet away from the batter! The rule variations go on and on, so I suggest that if you are still interested, find a complete list on google or wiki.

It was created in Finland in the 1920s, but to this date, is only played in a few Scandinavian countries, and the Australia area. This is a realistic looking field, modeled after a few pictures I've seen of the average pitch. If there are any Finns on here that can point out what might be wrong with it, that'd be great.

Lot size in 5x7, has no dependencies, and appears under Landmarks.

Interesting. I've been to Finland but I guess I missed this. I'm sure my Fins will love this...err, do I have any Fins in my region, well, this should bring them in.

I'm Finnish and pesapallo is played in sand, not grass. Your field is otherwise accurate. Downloading.

Never saw anything about playing in sand, but you would know. I'll make a sand version and put it along with this one if I have time.

I'm living in Sweden and I've never heard of this, so it must be the norwegians who joins Finland in the international matches then (if there are any). Looks great anyway.

Only grass-field is located in Kaisaniemi, Helsinki. It was homefield of Kaisaniemi Tiikerit (Kaisaniemi Tigers), before the team were dropped from National League, Superpesis. The sand is usually orange or grey. We play on sand, because it is better.

Hmmm You really do learn something new everyday! I'll put this into a city with a sizable Finish expat population. Suprised it didn't make it over to some areas of the US. There's a large Finish-descended population over in Astoria, Oregon. Thanks for bringing this sport to our attention!
