About This File

Background:
Owain Glyndwr (1359 - 1416), also known by his anglicised name Owen Glendower, was
the
leader of an unsuccesful revolt against the English rule of Wales. Owain Glyndwr is a
tragic, romantic hero of the Middle Ages. Not many people outside of Wales know of his
existence, but to the Welsh he is probably one of their greatest historical figures.

Glyndwr's revolt against the English rule was succesful in the beginning, as he and his
troops managed to capture several important castles. His revolt was backed by France,
England's arch-nemesis, but they did not continue the fight for long. After that, the
revolt quickly crumbled. It has been said by many that Owain Glyndwr was in fact the
first guerilla war commander in world history when his revolt drew to a close. Nothing is
known of Glyndwr's fate after 1412. Some say he died, while others claim he married and
retreated from public life.

It took almost 500 years before Glyndwr's reputation was revived. During the late 19th
century, Welsh nationalism brought the revolt leader back to life. During World War One, Prime Minister David Lloyd George unveiled a statue to him the town hall of Cardiff. Welsh legends say that when Wales is threatened again, Glyndwr will rise from his unknown grave in order to lead the country's defense, much like the much more famous King Arthur would do for
England. To this day, a campaign exists to make September 16th, the day the rebellion
started, a national holiday in Wales.

Personal Note:
Why would anyone create a statue of a man most people around the world have never heard
of before? Well, I was actually thinking of creating a statue of King Arthur, but since
I've been having problems with the BAT after my last statue, the idea never really
matured. While I was busy working on the latest update in my City Journal
'The Empire
of Chaumont'
in which the King of the CJ 'New Rhodesia' makes a state visit, I decided
it was time to take the BAT out of the mothballs and start making a special statue.

I remembered that 6Underground, the creator of New Rhodesia, had made a request for Owain
Glyndwr in the statue request thread at SimcityCentral and for some reason it always
stuck in my head. I guess it had something to do with the fact that I hadn't done a real
'knight' statue yet and with the fact that I was slightly dissapointed with the way my
Joan of Arc statue turned out.

After a bit of trouble with the nightlights and about 10 different renders for each size,
I finally managed to figure out what to do to get it right and you can now enjoy this new
statue. By the way, if you take the time to download, please leave a comment and a rating
as well.. After all, that's what every BATter really wants in return for their work..

Additional Information:
I've included two seperate folders in the zip-file. One contains the normal sized statue,
whereas the other holds the half sized statue, which is a more realistic scale for the game.
Choose whichever you like, or install them both.. All I care about is that you enjoy them!

10+ Awesoe statue, your best yet!!! Just recently started learning my Welsh ancestry and history when I read Adrian Gilbert's "The Holy Kingdom," which coincidentaly states that Arthur was Welsh, not English. Excellent work!

Downloading now. I have your other statues. I use them in every city. I like that you do two sizes. I use the larger one as a plaza in a similar way as the 3X3 Maxis plaza and I use the smaller ones in my parks.

You dont have to worry about me not commenting...great job again. Along with joan and the others you are bringing a bit of "old world" class to my otherwise classless city...now if they would just stop building stripclubs near the statues we would be ok :)

@ minpin987. You'll be interested to know that the only credible and original source of information pertaining to King Arthur comes from the ancient Welsh legend book "The Mabinigion", so was King Arthur Welsh? I think there is a very strong case supporting that.

Thank you for all of the time and effort you've put into creating this beautiful statue. Your work has always been great and this new statue certainly shows you are certainly still on top of your game. Excellent!

Regarding king arthur, its a matter of semantics of what Welsh is, if the theory of him holding out in Tintagel is true, wouldn't that make him Cornovii? Either way it suits me fine, as i'm a bit of both :p Anwyays, neat BAT.
