  1. Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello, All. I am not a newcomer to Simtrpolis but I haven't been active for a number of years. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Gary Vanderbur (I go by Vandy), a 70 year old retired male living in Clayton, North Carolina. USA. I've been married for almost 47 years to the most wonderful woman in the world. I have been playing SimCity 4 since December, 2004. I should mentioned that I rarely played the simulator, rather I was a avid map maker and posted under my mapping service, "Map This! - Cartography Services." (My maps are still on the STEX.) I plan on installing the simulator again and see if I can get wougaine's SC4 Terraformer working on my Windows 10 laptop. If I can, I plan on making maps again.
  2. Just wanted to drop by and say hi! I still remember so much of what you wrote way back when...:-)

Remember that on this pariticular region is nothing more than a grayscale image that you need to save to your computer and then use the config.bmp to render the region in SC4. Make sure you rename the file config1.bmp to config.bmp before attempting to render the region. Consult the OmniMaps portion of the Omnibus for the tutorial entitled "Installing a Region Downloaded from the STEX" for instructions on installing and rendering the region. Vandy STEX Map Moderator

While it would be nice if a config.bmp file be included in a map upload, it is not a requirement. THe downloader will either have to manually create a config.bmp file or, using SC4Terraformer, use the config.bmp generated. Vandy STEX Map Moderator

The primary picture is an in-game rendered region shot. No problem with this file. Vandy STEX Map Moderator

Although it is preferred that the primary picture be an in-game rendered region, it is no longer a requirement for map files created with SC4Terraformer. Nonetheless, I strongly suggest replacing your SC4Terraformer screen shot with an in-game rendered region shot. Thank you. Vandy STEX Map Moderator

It is up to the author of the map as to whether or not a rendered map image is included in the upload. The ONLY file that are required for a SimCity 4 created map is the grayscale image. The ONLY file that is required in a SC4Terraformer created map is the .SC4M file. It would be nice to include a config.bmp file but it is not required. Vandy STEX Map Moderator

Hello, Paulobergonci. The rules of the STEX required that your primary picture on you upload be a in-game rendered picture of the region -- not a SC4Terraformer screenshot. I have unapproved your file and it will remain unavailable until you modify the upload and make your primary picture an in-game rendererd picture of the region. Once you have done so, PM me and I will reapprove the file for members to download. Regards, Vandy STEX Map Moderator

Hello, Ducio. This map is not broken. It does contain a grayscale JPG of the region. You would use this grayscale image to determine the size of the config.bmp file that YOU MUST CREATE. Since the grayscale image is 1025 x 1025 pixels, you'll need to create a 16 x 16 pixel config.bmp file with a city size mix that you want. Regards, Vandy STEX Map Moderator
