Well reading Dirk's post may prove my idea wrong but... Looking at a historical viewpoint, The Sim City games have taken on titles of succession. Sim City then Sim City 2000, then Sim City 3000, and now Sim City 4. I assume they decided to go onto Sim City 4 because 4000 would be a bit much. But basically the first thing out of the box we see is that this game is called Sim City Societies, Not Sim City 5 or another iteration to hint that the game is the sequel to 4. Now another reason why this has my attention is that SCS seems very similar to canceled Maxis Projects like SimVille and Sim Mars. Sim Ville was to borrow from the Sims in controlling a small neighborhood type area. Sim Mars was a move to colonizing Mars in outer space. Sim City Societies is a game where you focus on social engines that drive the city. Not the roads of the city itself. Which brings up another reason to suggest that this possibly isn't a change in direction for the series but an added direction. From the interviews with Will Wright on SimCity.com, while old, Wright expresses interest in returning to the Sim City series someday. So my theory is that this game is intended to be a side project. Maxis already developed the prototype but decided to give it off to Tilted Mill. Both SimVille and Sim Mars are similar in the form that they were both side projects, however unlike their fates, SCS has been transfered to another company rather than canceled.

I'm intrigued in their ability for the game. I personally, would like to see Will Wright create another Sim City game, but I know that this isn't plausible for the time being. Maxis did say that they had kicked the concept of SCS around for a while before giving the project to Tilted Mill. Now I don't know how much of the prototype Maxis was involved in but rest assured, we've been informed that the development team are all fans of the Sim City series, so I'm optimistic in its outcome.

Building an Adobe Cantina in gmax and BAT
CitySeeker replied to onlyplace4's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Cool tut man! I'm new to BATing here and although I'm not interested in making an Adobe type structure I did learn how to do some of the Nightlighting (easier than I thought it would be) and I liked the info on awning you modeled for the windows. Thanks for the knowledge! -

Europe vs America vs Asia vs Oceania

Originally posted by: spa Originally posted by: tankmank I live in the uk (the warm part) if i was to chose i would say the uk becase we have free health service,a frendly atmostohere nearly every country in the world has english as a second language (Because we envaded them to make the brittish empire) and 2nd from the us we are the best place to live (eg. life expectancy, captia ect .....) so this is whyquote> Actually according to the UN's human development index the US and the UK aren't no.1 and no.2 they're actually further down the list. 1. Norway 2. Iceland 3. Australia 4. Luxembourg 5. Canada 6. Sweden 7. Switzerland 8. Ireland 9. Belgium 10. USA 11. Japan 12. Netherlands 13. Finland 14. Denmark 15. UK Furthermore, since 1980 only two countries have consistently ranked at the top and it's not the US and the UK it's Canada and Norway. Switzerland and Japan also made the top ranking over the period, but Canada and Norway pretty much were on top the whole time with the US and UK no where to be found. The point of all this being that you can enjoy a good quality of life in any of these countries and one being better than the other is probably pretty meaningless as a result, but still, perhaps you should check the facts before bragging and discounting the other 20 or 30 developed nations.quote> I'm just wondering but aren't most of the top 9 socialized in medicine in their countries. 'cause when I read that list thats what came to mind about them being the top ones. Anyways, I chose the US. I've lived in 5 different locations, and all have been a good experience. Now I probably would choose to stay here because its what I know, I've never been outside the US. If I had to live somewhere else I'd like to go to Canada probably or somewhere like New Zealand. I wouldnt want to go to Europe, if I had to go there it would be the UK. I dont know Europe seems so forgein to me. lol But as I said, the US rocks. Great life here and a cool place to be. -

Whats your favorite skyline in America?
CitySeeker replied to spacenuteskimo's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
San Jose!!!! Poor San Jose! You guys don't even have a skyline. How in the world did you make it on the list!! Edited- phew... sorry if I offended anyone, but you gotta admit that San Jose is way out there. quote> Hey now dont get me wrong, San Jose is a huge city its just not tall. As I said circumstances led it to look so far and spread out and not tall but it is by far the largest city in Northern California with a million people strong. I just wish they got some skyscrapers. Their downtown is nice to, just not tall. -
Whats your favorite skyline in America?
CitySeeker replied to spacenuteskimo's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Okay, I have no idea what happened with this poll, but it seems to be unusable. So, I'll just give the cities to pick from on this post: New York City Los Angeles Chicago Houston Philadelphia Phoenix San Diego San Antonio Dallas San Josequote> LOL San Jose may be the 10th largest city in America (population) but its skyline doesnt give it justice, and infact doesnt even reach the sky. San Jose is the youngest large city on the top 10 in size. When All those other cities were build (New York, LA, Philli) they all where built crowded together with tall buildings bunched together because the automobile was just getting started and transportation was still horses and such. By the time San Jose came around to be a big city the automobile had already been established as the main form of transportation not needing the cities to be tall and close together. Thus we find San Jose to be a huge spread out city of 1 million people over 177.7 sq mi. (interesting fact! San Jose was founded in 1777 see the relation in numbers? ), the skyline less than daunting. However Iam sure that as the city gets more people, taller buildings will be built. but I dont think we will ever see it look as tight knit as we see the other skylines today. Oh btw my favorite Skyline is probably SF. You can see it differently from every Angle. My favorite is coming over the bay bridge and seeing it slightly obscured by the lowlying mountains on the peninsula. -
Whoa that snow is amazing! I just tried it on an empty lot and it looked great! I wish you could keep that year 'round like that!
-
I'd say some of my favorites are: The Trans American Building I dont know why, I just always thought that the shape was very interesting. It really adds to the SF Skyline when you see it across the bay. Empire State Building I have always associated this building as a symbol of America, just the lines and look of it makes it look powerful. But my favorite buildings would have to be: The Sim City 2000 Arcologies.

Here I'll try to give you an example. Say, You want to download Sim Goober's Clock Tower Train Staion so you go to the link and download the BAT. But if you notice in all the information posted about the station there is a section called dependancies. There are then links that proceed to different packs. download any dependancies you see you need for the file. and the brown package should go away. Please note that after many file downloads that you dont redownload the same prop packs for each building. once you download a dependancy to the building then you dont need to download it again. And of course these dependancies go in the plugins folder with the actual file. Does this help?
-
Well lemme assess here. You are saying that when you download an item from STEX some objects on the BAT are what look to be brown packages... If this is the case then view the readme file to the plugin or go Stex and find the downloaded item again and then follow the instructions on what textures/props you need to download in order for it to work. You can find these on STEX as well. Hope that helps.

The New Wembley Stadium: Will it be finished in time?
CitySeeker replied to Compromise's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Well it looks like they dont have a choice. They got to get it done. -
Now I'm not sure how computer savy you are but the thing I do to prevent crashing is pretty easy. Proceed at your own caution. Everytime prior to launching the game I press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then go to the processes tab. I then end task to all the useless background tasks that are running. Make sure you only end task to unimportant ones.
-
OWNED! I downloaded it. And it rocks! One question. I dont have any prop packs applied to it 'cept for SG Grocery pack. What is added if I put those packs in? 'cause without them the thing looks complete.
