Anime (Your first anime and what are you currently watching )
jason w replied to SharkSark's topic in General Off-Topic
I guess technically my first anime would have been Pokemon. I saw a few episodes and watched a movie. I never really watched it much as a child however, it wasn't until maybe high school when I watched Pokemon. But I've gotten more into it now. -
Anime (Your first anime and what are you currently watching )
jason w replied to SharkSark's topic in General Off-Topic
The anime I'm currently watching is Coppelion. In it, a nuclear disaster that hit Tokyo in 2016. The government returned years later to search for and retrieve survivors. Part of the search team is made up of three girls who were genetically modified to be immune to radiation. When they were searching for survivors they discovered a society of its own and now they are fighting with one of the social classes. It is really good. I'm a fan of science fiction stuff like that. Although I'm not sure how realistic it is. If you would have to evacuate probably 20 million people, where would they all go? Japan already has very limited land for new development, especially in the central part of the country. Anyway, I like the series and I'm also new to anime. This is only my second show. My first anime was called Chobits and it was about this class of robotic computer people called persacoms. The main character has a special one that is more powerful than all the others and he ends up falling in love with it. -
Another French Fry Skyscraper in New York? [Poll]
jason w replied to Duke87's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I'm really surprised that there is enough demand for expensive housing like this. Are all the other high rises filled up, or is this just a scheme to make money and there isn't much demand? I know in places like Dubai and many Chinese cities, tall buildings like that get built, but then they don't get filled up all the way or they sit completely empty. I hope these don't end up like that. -
This is what I would do before Sim City 4: This is my favorite city drawing. I drew it in seventh grade. It's called Rogersville and it's a fictional city located in an area similar to Los Angeles. It's population is just over 300,000. I have like 6 more city drawings like this but there's no way I can fit them all on this post

Buildings many people didn't even know they were existing
jason w replied to Toothless Stitch's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I find it interesting how so many of these buildings are found in suburban office parks. I guess one reason is because they stand out so much. In a area of single family and low rises a tall building is like a beacon of prosperity.- 961 Replies

Buildings many people didn't even know they were existing
jason w replied to Toothless Stitch's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I think an amazing yet underestimated building would be 311 South Wacker Drive, located in the Loop in Chicago. At 961 ft, it is the seventh tallest building in Chicago and the tallest building in the world known only by its street address. Yet few people even notice it in pictures of the Chicago skyline and Willis Tower. My favorite part of the building is roof design.- 961 Replies

Wow! I'm not the only one that spends a lot of time exploring on Google Earth! I thought that I was weird for liking to do that.

Small Cities with skyscrapers
jason w replied to The Pennsylvania Turnpike's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Yes, I would agree with the statement about Atlanta. I've been there and there are actually three high rise areas, Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead. Buckhead is very up and coming, with construction everywhere in it. As for my small city with skyscrapers, my choice would be Covington, Kentucky. It has about 40,000 people and a skyline with three buildings over 200 ft tall. Of course, it is a suburb across the river from Cincinnati. -
Ideas for realistic city layout development by "house rules"
jason w replied to whiteboybob's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I agree with almost all of them. However, I feel like it's a pain to try to raise the ground to make a ground highway elevated and to do the same with the railroads. If there was a quick and easy way to do that, then I would do that. Do you have any advise on an easy way to make raised ground highways? Is there a mod or anything that helps with that? -
That was hilarious.

9889 I don't read fan fiction at all or write it. However, I do write other fiction a little bit. I just have a great ability of creating characters and settings.

9884 Those things really exist. I thought they were fictional.

9837 It seems to me that every time a game series tries to do something different in their newest sequel than in games past, the game ends up being a disaster and a failure. Take the Mario Party series for example. The games in that series just kept getting better and better until they came out with Mario Party 9. Mario Party 9 sucks. I'm probably never going to play that one again. The same goes for the Sim City series according to reports. They should have made an improved version of Sim City 4, not tried different new stuff. Just my opinion.

9834 Yes, I would have to agree. I don't even own that game, and I don't like it. I've seen numerous youtube videos about it's flaws, and saw online news stories about it. I won't be buying that one. I'm wanting to try CXL instead.

9798 In my German class, we don't talk about WWII at all. However, my teacher does show cartoons and stuff making fun of Hitler and the Nazis.

9795 I live in America, and my high school only offers German or Spanish. I'm taking German. In fact, I'm in German right at this moment. I really wish I had more language choices. I won't mind taking Latin. It would be really cool to take Russian. I'm not in any honors classes because I'm with Duke87 on that.

I hope if this new Simcity, fails, it won't be the end. I hope that would only teach them a lesson, and they will try again. Only this time they would listen to these fan websites like this and SC4D. I really hope this becomes the case.

Old building Ive always wanted...
jason w replied to Drakekay's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I wish mixing zoning was allowed, because that would greatly increase how realistic the game is, and it would allow populations to get really large. I could truely build a small town type city with that. -
Does anyone find it funny how much effort we invest in SimCity 4?
jason w replied to WeBuiltThisCityOnSimCity's topic in Simtropolis Related
I have invested a lot of time into SC4. I have probabaly invested about the same amount in the 3 roller coaster tycoon titles as well. I just really like all these building games a lot. Also, I agree that it does promote a lot of problem solving, and it has greatly influenced my plans of becoming a city planner (I'm currently a senior in high school). -
Discussion about City Tile Size
jason w replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
It was not only graphics that I was talking about. That was an example of the whole gaming future. The point I'm trying to make is the point you are saying here. Yes, it would be nice to have a new 3D SimCity 4 with a multiplayer option and glassbox. The point I'm saying is that I'm not okay with SimCity trying to appeal to this. I want good gameplay, not what the majority of public wants. Really, not many people are big in city building games, no offense to anyone. Maxis is trying to get everyone to buy this game, not just the big city building people. This is the key to why it is not appealing to us. They need to make it appeal to city builders like us, then they would get a good reputation and make better profits. Obviously, they have lost several city builders with what they have done, and maybe this will treach them a lesson.- 1,284 Replies

Discussion about City Tile Size
jason w replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I agree with this statement completely. It seems to me that "future" of computer games is this 3D graphics stuff. In my opinion, 3D is way overrated and in some instances worse than past games that aren't 3D. Take Roller Coaster Tycoon for example. The first two games had a great graphics theme going on. But then Roller Caoster Tycoon 3 comes along, and butchered the graphics theme and came up with this "great" 3D graphics. I do like all the new rides you can build and the ride the ride option, but I hate the 3D. Some games like The Sims are really nice in 3D. Sim City is not one of those games. My message to Maxis is this: Add all of this new stuff (like glass box, and different city types) to the game experience, but keep it about the same as SC4 in terms or graphics. Also, keep the cities small, medium, and large and bordering each other. Ignore the big 3D and social media gimicks and stick with the stuff we want.- 1,284 Replies

David Letterman went to the college I hope to go to, Ball State, which is in Muncie. Indianapolis is the second biggest state capital in the country and home to more than 800,000 people. In the beginning, one square mile of it was planned with a central circle and the Governer's mansion was in the middle of that. The planner actually worked for Pierre L'Enfant, who designed Washington DC. The city was built next to the White River so it could be a transportation hub and encourage industry. It turned out though, that the river was both too shallow and too sandy for ships and ferries to operate, so Indianapolis missed out on becoming an industrial center early on. Despite this, Indianapolis grew to a considerable size, probably because it was the capital. Once the railroad age came, some 30 years later, industry came with it, and that began a population climb upward. The Speedway was built about 1910 and that attracted travellers from around and provided a base for car industry that hit Indiana. Broad Ripple is mentioned above, and that is a nice shopping center with actual shops. That was annexed by the city in 1920 or so. In 1970, I think that's the year, the city of Indianapolis and Marion County, where it's situated at, agreed to merge together. What were once suburbs were now part of the city, and that increased the population from 450,000 to 700,000. I guess these suburbs in the city are attracting lots of people even to this day. So, there's a liittle history lesson on Indy.

I love it! How do you get diagonal streets, though? Is that part of NAM?
