1. This and this. I'm sorry but this is a sorry excuse for a thread. I think it's pretty darn clear why many are frustrated with the way this game is turning out. I'd also like to add that for $60, the player should at least have access to their saved cities on their own computers. Instead, EA will have control over them on their servers, which they've been known to shut down at whim.
2. Realistic US Roads Mod

No. The owner is in the process of transferring the site to a new server. With that done, many of the issues that plagued the site should be a thing of the past. Just be patient; it should be back up and running in a few days at the most.
3. OH NOEZ! XL Nation is OFFLINE!

Yep, this looks like the real deal. With a new server, the infamous Drupal messages should be a thing of the past.
4. Is there anyone actually still playing this game?

I don't concur. CXL has been a huge dissapointment. I've shelfed it in favor of Minecraft and 2003's SimCity 4. I don't concur. And odds are you haven't even looked at the custom content available for the game. Being a fan of the SC series for over a decade now, I still believe CXL is a better game. With custom content, CXL is a serious competitor to the now decade old SC4. It's certainly better than the new SimVillage game. I've been playing it for a couple of years now and only rarely play SC4 anymore, and only for nostalgia. Besides, you gotta admit, even with all the great mods out there, playing a decade old game gets, well, old. CXL offers a fresh approach to citybuilding, without all the restrictions of the new SimVillage game.
5. Cities XL 2012 Mods

isnt offline, but u need to refresh the page couple times. XLNation is a horrible site with awesome modes It isn't a "horrible site", but it is hosted on a shitty server. The owner is looking for a new one currently.
6. I could not agree more. We all need to learn to take a stand and not be manipulated if we want things to change. Big business will only look out for their interests and not ours as long as it doesn't impact their bank account. If I buy a game I expect to be able to play it whenever or wherever I want to without any restrictions other than something to play it on. An always on connection or online play takes those options away from players. I'm not interested in renting the game. I echo these sentiments. Those who like the idea of what SimVillage stands for, go ahead and buy it, but those who don't do their research and buy the game because "it's the next SimCity" are simply wasting their money. Why? It isn't SimCity. Not what it once stood for, at least. Is that bad? Not necessarily; that question is entirely subjective. But the online, cloud nature of this game, combined with the infamous invasiveness of Origin, as well as the suffocating restrictions imposed on the player can hardly be seens as good things. At least IMO.

The fact still remains that while simulation-wise, cities don't "live in bubbles", aesthetically, they do. It Kinda defeats the whole purpose of the added regional/global interaction.
8. Cities XL 2012 Mods

I get those messages a lot nowadays... basically it means there are more people trying to connect to the site than it can handle. Plus there are some problems in the programming and such. It will eventually be fixed, at least I hope. For now, persistence is key. Sometimes I have to refresh a page five times, once every few minutes, to get it to load. Evenings (in Europe and the U.S.) are usually better.
9. Indeed, most small towns and villages, as this game forces the player to make, don't have subways. Or highways. Or elevated railways. They do have farms... oh, but wait, that won't be included either.
10. Realistic US Roads Mod

Yes. Check out XL Nation's XLEX for details.
11. There are plenty of good mods available for CXL as well. Check out XL Nation.
12. Will you buy Simcity 2013?

Yep. This is what happens when a small company slowly devolves into a heartless behemoth. Their franchises devolve with them.
13. SimCity: Gameplay

Unfortunately it looks like they aren't going to do that - one of the devs in the reddit explained it was because neighboring cities would look "dead" up close, or some other hogwash. It doesn't matter to me, since I don't expect anything out of this game anyway.
14. Changing UK to US in existing cities

Use cheats then to counter the expense. Hopefully it will be worth the effort.
15. Changing UK to US in existing cities

Did you try laying new roads? If it doesn't work, check the city.cxl file to make sure the changes saved. Try also editing the "'Roads' value" entry in the checkpoint.cxl file, and reload the game.
16. Pre-ordering question

Don't pre-order. It's never a good idea; you pay the highest price to basically be the first to find out whether it's good or not. And if it's not, well, that's a bunch of wasted money. I'd wait until a while after release, read the player reviews, since the "professional" ones can be influenced. If you do decide to buy it, then wait for a sale. Me, I'd try to find any way other than origin to buy it, since origin is basically EA spyware on your computer. But, since this game is cloud/originware, any way other than through Origin is unlikely.
17. Changing UK to US in existing cities

Ok, this is the process for CXL: Beforehand - since this is a process that involves editing your city's save information, it's advised to back up the savegame folder as a precaution. A guide for doing so can be found at this link: http://xlnation.net/...savegame-folder ------------- Go into the savegame folder (Users\Your username\AppData\Local\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012\live\offline\solo) Then, you'll see a list of folders. Each folder corresponds with a city. Depending on how many cities you have, finding the city you want to edit can be easy or difficult. If you remember how long ago you last played the city, I'd recommend sorting the folders by "date modified". The more recent cities you played should be towards the top of the list. Then, you'll have to go into each folder until you find the folder containing the data for the city you want to edit. Once in a folder, find the file named "city.cxl". You should be able to open it with notepad. Do so, and hit CTRL + F to open the search box. Type in: "cityname", and hit enter. If the corresponding "value" next to this entry is the name of the city you want to edit, then great. If not, you'll have to move on to the next folder, and so on. Once you've found the correct city, open the searchbox again and type in "roads". Depending on the road style you chose, it may not find an entry (this is if you chose default roads). But, since you chose UK roads, in this case, it should find an entry as follows:
<itm key = 'Roads' value = 'UK' />
Simple change the 'UK' to 'US', and you'll be all set. Make sure to save the file, and open your city. The roads may or may not have automatically changed to the American road style. If they haven't, you'll have to delete and replace each road individually. This is a tedious process, but hopefully it's worth it. Also, for future reference: UK = English road style FR = French road style DE = German road style US = American road style To change from or to default roads, add or remove the "'Roads' value" entry accordingly. For more details, see this tutorial: http://forum.citiesx....php?f=11&t=728 Good luck!
18. As hotChocolate said, it depends on what you're looking for. I've been a SimCity player for about a decade now, and I still admire the games, SC4 especially. I picked up CXL a while back and immediately fell in love with the game. Even without mods it was great, although it was, and still is, plagued with technical issues. When it comes down to it, I'd say both games are great vanilla, although SC4 is a bit better. With mods, I think CXL is better. The community around the game is still pretty fresh, with a small but growing modding scene. The feats accomplished within a few years by modders in the CXL community is amazing. And unlike SC4, you can mod just about anything in CXL, from new streets and transportation features, to new buildings and maps. Heck, you can even mod the sky. However, the simulation in SC4 is and will probably always be better than CXL's, and the cities in SC4 are always changing and growing, while the ones in CXL tend to be a bit static. So, this is of course my opinion, but if you like the simulation and watching your cities change over time, SC4 is probably your game. If you like realistic graphics, virtually unlimited modability, not to mention the freedom that comes without a grid, then CXL is probably the game for you.
19. New Screenshots

That has to be the most compact Nuclear Power Plant I've ever seen. I also like how it's right across the street from homes and businesses. Well said.
20. SimCity Vs Cities Xl 2012

Indeed. We have some very good talent in the CXL community.
21. Information from the Reddit

Thanks for reposting that. If Maxis didn't want us to see it, I'm sure they would have had it removed by now.
22. SimCity Vs Cities Xl 2012

IMO CXL has horrible sound effects, and sub-par music... but I still like it much better than the new SimVillage games. You have tons of space to work with, and can build just about you want. Needless to say, the graphics are also stunning. But the sound? Meh. However, it still wins over SimVillage in my opinion.
23. What if SimCity fails?

CXL is still out there and has growing community support behind it. Think of SC4 way back in the early days and that's how CXL is right now. It has its problems, but there are many good modders out there making it a great game. I would still categorize it as a serious competitor to the new SimVillage game.
24. Show us What you're Working On

I'm assuming it's permitted to post pictures of cities from other citybuilding games in these threads, correct? If not I apologize in advance. A current WIP from CXL:
25. New Screenshots

What in heaven's name are you talking about? CXL looks a hundred times better than this, and you can build an actual city in that game. SimVillage and CXL are nothing alike.
