It's very doubtful that a new iteration of CXL will ever see light of day. That said, the modding community is as strong as ever. Most of the work done by the community has been of higher quality than anything FHI would be likely to produce. So, official support or not, Cities XL is not dead; not by a long shot.

XL Nation has been migrated to new software. Unfortunately, the old forums are gone, but it's for the best in the long-term. The new site should be crash-free. All the problems it had in the past are history. As for broken links, many links to the forums, old XLEX, etc will no longer work, but the link to the front page should still be working. http://xlnation.net/

The administrator of the website is currently trying to get email notifications working; hopefully they will be working within the week.

I've been using the site for the past few months with zero problems concerning viruses or malware. Avast is known for being prone to false positives, and there's not much the XLN staff can do from their end to unblock the site. That being said, I will try to get in contact with the owner of the site and see if this can be resolved, but no promises. For now, I'd say unblock it manually (I assume that's possible with Avast), or get another anti-virus.

In any case, the UN has once again proved itself as an irrelevant organization that does little to punish inhumane violations of international law. It needs to get rid of or change the structure of the security council, or it's all but useless.

I'm not sure how many here ever took a look at that website he set up to gain funds for his legal defense, but there was a small photo gallery there and one of the pictures showed graffiti, sprayed onto the Hale Center (a black cultural center) at Ohio State University, reading "Long Live Zimmerman". Zimmerman himself set up the website and the images - he had to have known the context of this picture. http://www.dispatch.com/content/graphics/2012/05/10/zimmerman.jpg Another fact: Zimmerman called the police dozens of times, and every single time he did so, it was to report "suspicious behavior". And every single time, the person performing this "suspicious behavior" was, in fact, an African American. In the police tape, Zimmerman says to the 911 Operator: "F****** punks. These a*******. They always get away." I guess one of those 'punks' finally got what they deserved, eh?

Yeah, of course, in your state's lawbooks Zimmerman could have been seen as 'defending himself'. However, in most of the rest of the country, when a man with a gun tails a kid armed with skittles and iced tea and ends up shooting the kid, there's no basis for 'self-defense'. If nothing else, this will only increase the opposition to senseless "stand your ground" laws. The system has failed tonight, but don't think for one second that the Justice Department won't end up trying Zimmerman themselves ala Rodney King. And even then, most of America is sensible enough to see a murderer for what he is. Zimmerman will never be truly free, and in that sense, justice will be had.

As far as the discussion of Japanese attitudes towards the war are concerned... I will say the expungement of the events of Nanking from history books is surprising to us in the West, but one must consider the culture in Japan, where events considered bad or shameful are often swept under the rug. Also, most Japanese war criminals never paid for their crimes because the Americans didn't pursue them. The United States was concentrating on occupying and rebuilding Japan, and while I'm not sure how much foresight officials at the time had into the spread of Communism, one can argue many Japanese officials were kept in place out of need (at least in the American perspective) for a strong, stable government in the region. Perhaps there should be a thread for the discussion of ethics or something similar, as that is what seems to be the central theme here.

Are you trying to make a joke? Not very funny in my opinion. Anyways, my attitude to this is indifference. If you're that stupid to destroy your brain just to get high, then by all means go on ahead. The world won't be any worse off without you. Of course this should be contained if it can be, but obviously the government is facing a very steep uphill battle in the war against drugs as it is, and the increasing prevalence of these new ones can only complicate things. I don't think, however, that this new development 'leave the world with an aged population without the underpinnings to support it'. Caffeine wakes you up. It can certainly be dangerous to health in high amounts, but death from such a thing isn't at all common, and you certainly won't find someone in a psychotic state (and thus a danger to themselves and society) from drinking a cup of coffee like you would from someone taking meth, LSD or perhaps one of these new drugs. Salt is a food flavoring, not a drug... and I've never heard of anyone overdosing on salt (although I'm sure it's happened). Nicotine is addictive and IMO should be banned considering the methods people use to take it; the governments of most Western countries are already phasing out cigs with health warnings, ad campaigns, and taxes. You have more of a point with alcohol. It's certainly legal and you can find it just about anywhere, and yet so many have had problems with dependency, drinking and driving, etc. My opinion is that, with alcohol, it's been around for thousands of years and many people can indulge without going overboard. The same could perhaps be said about pot and some other drugs, but all in all your argument (I believe you're inferring that because some drugs are legal, others should be made legal) makes very little logical sense. Why increase the population's access to harmful substances beyond what they already have legal and common access to? Alcohol is by no means a safe substance to consume, but it won't be going away any time soon; like it or not, it's a part of most cultures as much as it is a drug. Nicotine is being phased out but is still prevalent, maybe someday it will be banned. Caffeine is used by hundreds of millions every morning to 'wake up'... perhaps we could allow cocaine for that too but somehow I think caffeine is a much safer alternative. And salt? There are some who put too much salt on their food but as far as I know salt can't give you the hallucinogenic effects or fatal overdose rates that other drugs can.

If you're looking for more in-depth simulation than what SC4 has, you've come to the wrong place. CXL's simulation is actually fairly decent (contrary to what some people would have you believe), but I would not say it's on par with SimCity 4. However, there are some aspects of the simulation CXL seems to perform better, such as traffic pathfinding.

Cities XL itself is very underrated, for sure, but Platinum? It would make a half-decent DLC at best. I say no, if you already have 2012. If not, you might as well get the latest version. All Platinum adds on to 2012 are some new and some retextured buildings. Many of them just look plain weird in my opinion, although there are a few good ones in there.

In general, the government - especially the faction that gets elected to do nothing (I'm looking at you, Congress) - could use a lesson on the simple concept of 'investment'. If the country is to run efficiently, and in turn, generate revenue, some money and time must be put into it. Good, solid infrastructure is key to a healthy market economy - you think the big money interests and their denizens would realize that. Of course, I don't think bridges are going to start collapsing left and right, and this accident wasn't even caused by age, but I do think it should be a simple and well-supported idea to maintain and replace the many vital means of transportation that are rusting and crumbling beneath our feet. Especially when 10% of our bridges do have structural deficiencies - and I don't think they would need a collision from a heavy truck to go down either. Despite this, the state of America's infrastructure overall is currently in good shape, even though it's beginning to show its age when compared to the developing cutting-edge systems of East Asia and Europe. However, I can only wonder what it will look like ten years from now if the current 'do-nothing' attitude persists.
