Howdy! Anyone know if its possible to change the size of the menu (aka dashboard I think) independent of changing the screen resolution? I ask because I'm finding that as I increase my custom resolution (via shortcut arguments), my menu /dashboard gets smaller and smaller. It makes perfect sense. However... At resoltions where the game looks its most amazing, I have to squint to see the menu icons and reading the descriptions is out of the question. The irony is just cruel. Furthermore, at resolutions of 1600x900 and better, the menus seem to be too tiny for the mouse wheel to continue to carry out menu-scrolling (now I get zoom changes instead). Surely someone else has encountered this challenge. Are there fixes, or mods, or workarounds that my searches aren't turning up? Thanks!

In-game Menu Size vs Custom Resolution
jp_scofflaw replied to jp_scofflaw's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Herein lies your issue---that's almost television viewing distance mate, not computer screen. It's also possible Windows is trying to scale the game for you and you need to tweak some settings. Perhaps you could post a screenshot with the menu so we can judge if it looks normally sized? Well, it is a big screen, yes. But its not a problem overall. Almost everything I use the computer for is easy to read with no strain on the eyes. And some of the sc4 text is no problem also -- the news ticker, advice dialogues, data view options, all are comfortable to read. Its just the ploppable menu item descriptions that leave me squinting. The much bigger drag as far as I'm concerned is the inability to use the mouse wheel to scroll through those mmps and landmarks so long as I have my resolution set very high. And thanks a bunch for the invite to offer up a screen shot. Here's hoping there's some little tweak I missed... PS. The image is with my screen resolution set to 1600x900, in case that's at all illuminating. Cheers! -
In-game Menu Size vs Custom Resolution

Ugh. Vastly beyond me. Just had to ask though. Sounds like the path of least resistance. But in my case I'm playing from an easy chair about 2 meters from a big screen -- I might need binoculars or a telescope -

Great tip! I just downloaded DobDriver's Speedy Rendering Mod and will give it a try. If nothing else, faster load times and visual variety are nice. Also, while searching I found another UI mod from docj101 on the Stex. -

Anyone know of prop packs with old-timey luggage cart props? I'm re-lotting a passenger rail terminal and need something for the platforms. I have excellent luggage props in my airport packs, but they seem too modern. Thanks!

Outstanding mod! I've been wishing for urban-appropriate GLR, TIR & TIA textures for a long time. Bravo! One thing though; I think the readme might be a little confusing. If I understand it correctly, it says the mod should ideally go in the z___nam folder. I got absolutely nothing when I did that (well, other than ML's mod). However, After moving it to the root folder & adding another z and a couple underscores to the mod's folder name, it all worked beautifully. Thanks so much.

dunno, ferben. hadn't seen those yet and would like to get em. maybe reportback here or pm if you get them working. also, anybody know how to register with simcity.cn? its listed back in this thread (9 months ago) as the place to get gurry's sea walls. i got the walls elsewhere, but wanted to check out the cn site anyway. when i run the page through google translate i get a registration link that only seems to take me to general policy info and afaik is a dead-end? anybody else have any luck? -

ferben, on the page you linked, there's a "home" hyperlink at the top right of the message post that has the images of those residentials. clicking it will take you to a home page and from there you'll find the link for the downloads page with lots of other goodies. btw, i have those residentials, they grow like weeds in new cities but are quickly replaced if you don't make em historical -
Connections between non-contiguous cities?
jp_scofflaw posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hi all. Please excuse if this is a silly question, but I'm wondering if anybody knows much about network connections across the region. The Maxis handbook that came with the game has a vaguely worded bit about connections that had me thinking (and playing as if) a city would only respond to it's immediate neighbors. But something funny happened in a new city I just started that looks like I'm getting demand, and even traffic, from other cities in the region that are 2 and 3 cities (empty of development except the connecting rail & roads) away. Can this be true. If it is, it'll completely change how I play the region so I just had to ask. Thanks in advance. -
Connections between non-contiguous cities?
jp_scofflaw replied to jp_scofflaw's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thanks, good to know. Capt, I checked with both query tools and there's no traffic in the empty (except road/rail) cities and no automata. That's what I'd expect. I guess what made me think I was getting actual traffic was the appearance ofincoming automata at the edge of a developed city- sims will appearanty drive anywhere. Tyson, I'm trying not to stay in one place too long, but its easier said than done. Each one of these cities can be its own bottomless pit. Oy. Cheers! -
