  1. It looks like your residential zones are being zoned into parcels that are too big. Try breaking it into 1x2 or 2x2 and you should see some growth, especially since the residential demand is there. Hope it helps!
  2. Entry no.46 - The Transfer pt.2

Breathtaking. I'd really like to know more about the quadruple rail tunnel, wonder how you managed that?
  3. Hi guys Not a regular poster but I do have a serious issue I want get the community's opinion on. Commute issues have never been an issue in the 6 months or so I've been building this city. If anything, the city tends to have a significantly greater number of sims who walk/bus/take the subway to work than drive (approximately 40000+ sims take the subway, 80000+ take the bus and around 200000+ walk). Why is why I was so surprised to start seeing No Job Zots over zoned residential buildings despite the fact that they had functioned perfectly fine for over 60-odd game years. No significant changes were made to the neighbourhood. If anything, only an upgrade to the subway station was made, changing it into one that had a higher capacity (shown in the image). Yet, the problem keeps getting even worse. More perplexing, however, was the odd variance of commute times experienced by the individual buildings in the immediate area. As shown in the above images, apartments right next to each other experienced very different commute times. To make matters worse, other areas in the city are beginning to experience the same problem. Any help anyone?
  4. The plague of the no job zot

I currently run NAM V31, with ultra level controllers. Sorry for not having stated that earlier. Also, education isn't much of an issue. I currently play with the aid of the Radical Ordinance Mod, so that basically settles all health and education issues in the cities I build. The development to the bottom of the images are commercial services, with a mix of low, medium and high wealth lots providing jobs for the area. A quick network check sows that workers come from the immediate area, although it is confusing as to why the workers for those buildings come from further away than the affected apartments. One would think that the simulation would pick the nearest residents for the job because it reduces commute time for them, espeically since the roads/streets surrounding the affected area are running in the green (low capacity). Finally desirability isn't an issue.
  5. Show us your Farm Land!

All looking great! Here's a little contribution of mine (you might've seen it on the Berate One Image thread)
  6. Berate one image

Look at the jagged edges! Such sloppiness! Plus what's with all that repition and dilapidation that I can hardly see because it's so zoomed out?! Gosh it's awful in almost every aspect of it. -6/-10 Now that that's all said and done...
  7. Show us your Riverside, Lakeside, or Oceanside

    My little contribution
  8. Show Us Your Suburbs

This looks really good! Can I just ask though, how you managed to get pavements and grass fillers for the street curves?
  9. Show us your Industrial Areas!

    Just my little contribution
  10. Corraile has been recreated, reintroduced and is a proud member of the Alliance of Independent Nations! I've been planning to do a plot-based CJ, but I have no idea how I should run it. Suggestions are welcome! Before I begin on that, I shall be doing an introduction to the background of Corraile. Corraile ranges from the urbanised city centres To the rustic and simple rural life in the countrysides And contains a good amount of suburbia too! Enjoy!

@Benedict - Thank you very much! @Yanzoxe - Thanks?... @TekindusT - Thank you! @Aaron Graham Thanks More of Colganston (I'll be honest - I haven't touched Solando in forever cause I haven't had motivation to do it, which means you'll see a lot more of Colganston in the coming updates). Bourke Avenue is one of the main thoroughfares that exist in the city, helping to link the Cross-Island Highway to the city centre. What's unique about the avenue is the daily market that borders the avenue, selling everything from souvenirs to tourists to fresh fruits. Government Park is where the main buildings of the Colganstonian State Government are. North of the Park is the main cathedral in the city, christened after the city's patron saint St. Mark. Another market, this time Central Market, a much bigger market with a greater variety of goods, and you can sometimes see the State Premier rush down to get a cup of coffee between meetings. Anyway, in tribute to the release of SC2013, I've paid a littlle homage int he images. Wonder if anyone notices them... ^^

@vivapanda - Thank you! @RepublicMaster - Yes, very cold indeed. Thanks too! @Benedict - Thanks! And wow gosh #7 that's surprising @Fox - Thanks mate! So I've been away for a long time without an update, sincere apologies for that. I'ved moved to Australia to study, so unfortunately that meant I couldn't update for a long time. But anyway I'm back and what better way is there to start than with a mosaic?
  13. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@Benedict - That's American Typewriter, the same typeface used in the I Love New York logos @City_Master - Yes, moar snow! That's typical of the Northeast this time of year @vivapanda - Really? Thanks Given that I'm going to be away until next weekend, I've had to push forward this year's Christmas update to today, the eve of Christmas eve. This is Colganston, in winter. Colganston has always been personified as a fighter. A tough guy, with street cred, walking around with tattoos on his arm and a heavy leather bikers' jacket, but with a heart of pure gold. It's also been considered to have a Napoleon complex, which would explain it's usually-friendly, sometimes vicious competitiveness with Centreburg, and this tough-guy personality shows in the city's architecture and urban culture. Colganston has always had a noticeably different feel compared to the more modern cities of Freedo and Centreburg. Some have even compared it to New York. It seems that the streets here today are particularly quiet. But then again it is the weekend. When night falls, the streets light up in celebration of the Christmas spirit. The decorations lend some contrast to the darkness of the night sky and the warmth of the lamps at home. So here's to a white Christmas this year. Merry Christmas folks
  14. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@City_Master - Yes winter scenes are pretty Oh well winter breaks records too sometimes @vivapanda - Thank you Sorry for the lack of activity, I've been busy (even though its the holidays LOL) "You're being moved to Solando, with effect after the Christmas break. Most of the benefits and expatriate allowances you get here will be the same there, and so is the pay. Good luck, and enjoy yourself, it's a pretty place." the boss told me this morning. After spending about a year and a half here in Centreburg (not including the occasional business trip), I'll be moving to Solando, down south in Lanaya. It seems that that was the result of a successful business deal to expand the company's presence in Lanaya, buying farms and stuff like that. I'd better get ready for the move. Mid-afternoon, and the heavens gave way to sheets of snow falling across the city. Nighttime, and the city's Christmas lighting illuminated the streets. Shoppers bustled down the sidewalks, streaming into shops to find the perfect Christmas gift for friends and family. A pretty night, but I have to get my stuff packed to leave after Christmas *sighs*
  15. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@Benedict - Sure! Just grab an airline ticket and we'll get you sorted out! @Twenty20 - Yep! Christmas is coming. In 25 days @City_Master - Down in the Southern Hemisphere? Hahah but warm weather's good right? @daTSchikinhed - Sure Just post in the MFR thread on the AIN forums and we'll get that sorted out. And thank the Queen on my behalf for her compliments! @vivapanda - Thank you! I've been very busy these past few days, and exhausted as well. Still, mosaic time! (brought to you in widescreen) Have a happy December! Comments, +1s all appreciated.
  16. Sunset Strip

Looking pretty good. Just note the UDI icons in future, and I wouldn't want to drive a car with a massive palm tree stuck in the middle of it!
  17. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@Benedict - Thanks. Only the best will do for them @Twenty20 - Thank you Here comes the sun... No wait... That's not right is it? It's gotten colder and colder over the past few days, and then now this weird, white substance is falling from the sky. I wonder what that means?... Perhaps the heavens are having a bad hair day and this is the dandruff? No wait of COURSE it's winter! That's right! It happens between late November and January! Cold but pretty, don't you agree? (p.s O forgot the inner black border for the last 2 pictures :/ ) As always, comments, +1s are all appreciated
  18. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@Benedict - Neither would I @sim_link - Thank you! And yes I agree @Twenty20 - Yes they'll be back. Especially when it's rain like that! Sandy came and went like a freight train. We were expecting the sort of disaster that hit New York and New Jersey, but nothing of the sort materialised, at least not to that scale. Newspapers report at least 10 dead, and it seems that normalcy has returned to the city. Still a bit of dark clouds though... But it's surprising how the snow hasn't fallen around here yet. Strange. Still, no snow is good news, don't have to put my back out shovelling it all away from the driveway for now. Oh and before I forget, it's Remembrance Sunday. +1s, comments, all appreciated
  19. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@jacksunny - Thank you! @TekindusT - Thank you as well! @SimCoug - Thank you @vivapanda - Thanks! @Twenty20 - Thank you as well Halloween, but no one's trick-or-treating tonight. The rain was of unprecedented proportions, but even so, the streets were unusually quiet, and nobody left their houses. I suppose the government's press release this morning has taken effect already. It was released around 8 in the morning, and by 9 or so it was all over the news. "...residents in the Centreburg, Solando or Western Lanaya region have been advised to evacuate the region for the immediate period..." "...Flights to the Eastern Seaboard have been suspended due to Hurricane Sandy, expected to hit home here in at least 2 days time..." "...Government has advised people to either stay home or evacuate to a safer region. Flights leaving Gateway for Colganston and Freedo have been full since this afternoon..." Yup. Sandy would hit Corraile soon. I would wait it out here in the city, cause getting out of the city was a nightmare now - the airport was full of people leaving, driving wasn;t safe in this weather and the ships were in harbour too. For safety reasons, the downtown area had it's power cut whilst Centreburgians, Lanayans and Corrailites in the area braced themselves for the coming storm. Water, canned food and necessities were sold out at most places. Hopefully by the end of the week the worst'll be over.

@Fox - Thank you 4:45pm, and I found myself in the library downtown. You know, the really big one, with tons of books and that awesome glass cyliner thingy. Ever since coming to Centreburg I've developed a fond relationship with books and reading. I've got shelves of books that I read and sometimes re-read whenever I need something to help me relax. Oh well, still have about half an hour before meeting Chip, so let's settle down and read something while waiting. 5:25, and I'm already in Chip's little downtown apartment. Standing at the balcony you can peek out at the bay between two skyscrapers, and see the sails of boats docked and sailing. Inside was a small, but pretty chic apartment. I particularly liked the Warhol-esque painting he had in the living room. 7.30pm, and we're both at this nice place by the coast eating some seafood for dinner. Nice plane, nice breeze, nice view and the massive Centreburg Tower looming in the distance. Apparently the lights don;t come on till later, so it wasn't the pinkish-blue illuminated streak I was expecting but some grey, tall spire. Still, it was kinda pretty I guess. Comments, +1s are really appreciated.
  21. Show us your Airports!

So I was building another major airport, and then I realised, why should the terminal layout always be orthogonal?
  22. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@Benedict - Thank you! I just had an epiphany. Why should Simcity just be isometric? Comments, +1s are all greatly appreciated
  23. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@Hazani Pratama - Thank you! @Benedict - Thanks Yeah Solando was meant to be like an European city (Paris, to a certain extent but with predominantly American-esque architecture) @TekindusT - Thank you! Yes I like to think that Solando is one of my prettier cities @SimCoug - Thanks! I like how it fits in there too It was time to leave Solando (unfortunately) Left the hotel early so as to avoid the heavy traffic that has become symbolic of Solando's downtown core area. The streets are narrow and thanks to conservation programmes they can't be widened anymore. This, here, was a little gem I discovered along the way. The cathedral was apparently the first to be built out of stone in the city (or at least that was what the taxi driver told me). It's spire was once the tallest thing around for miles but now it's dwarfed by urban expansion. Lanayans love parks, and that's why they've built quite a lot within the city. And alas, I left the ground, on my way back to Centreburg, the plane turning south to give us all a last glimpse of this beautiful city before turning north back towards Corraile.
  24. Corraile | Reborn (AIN)

@Blakeway - Thanks Julien! It's especially nice to hear from you, since this used to be yours (Lanaya, that is) @SimCoug - Thanks Days and days of meetings, discussions and after-dinner drinks. I think we got somewhere with the deal, but we'll have to go back to Corraile to hammer out a deal in writing. But who could resist staying in Solando, arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the region, for a day or two's worth of sightseeing? My flight would leave tomorrow, so went out to capture all the sights the city had to offer. Standing by the shoreline, the TourParc is the most recent addition in the old city, a small pocket of modernity nestled within the confines of old world architecture and urban planning. They (the locals) told me that no visit to Solando is complete without a trip to the City Market. It was quite an interesting experience (bought a shirt that proudly proclaimed my trip to the city), but it was pretty quiet, for the rain deterred both other tourists and locals. Mercifully, the rain soon eased, and I took a short walk to Rue Bareilles, in the Mazatlan district of the city. Made famous by the iconic 1960s movie "Les rues De Solando", it resembled a scene from a romantic movie - The trees, with their leaves rustling in the wind, an occasional car passing slowly along the street and couples all along the street, holding hands and walking down with blissful smiles on their faces. It really is a shame that I had to leave this place soon. A beautiful place, really, beautiful.

(can finally get on with the story) Solando, Capital of Lanaya. Once another country, now a part of Corraile. Not surprising that Corrailite companies are scrambling to invest in this large, previously untapped market. So I got sent down south, to a city that while is part of Corraile, is clearly different from the Corraile I was used to in almost every way. Flew into Solando's Saint Louis Airport, not the usual Solando International Airport. It was kinda scary to see the tops of the buildings as we descended into the airport, but the view of Cnetral Solando in the night was breathtaking. After crossing immigration and collecting what baggage I had in the terminal area, I was completely exhausted, and didn't take photos of the city as I made my way to the hotel, collapsing just as my face hit the bed. I woke up the next morning to a spectacular view of the city. Here it was. There's the very prominent Tour de Télévision Solando, basking in the morning sun, with the Galerie National at it's base, with glimpses Maison du Parlement as well.
