So, how do you feel about Toronto?
maosim replied to dslr.cow's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I was really impressed with Toronto when I was there. Lots of different cultures and while being a large financial city it felt like an old cozy town here and there. Spadina Avenue with the colorful houses and cute stores, the china town with veggie-stalls on the streets and a lot of cool people At first I was suspecting the city to be either too arty-farty or downright ghetto, but it was a nice blend of everything (even the ghettos are rather flashy). What sticks with me the most isnt the city or it's people, but the roads. Mega long roads and perfect quadrants of housings. Just like in Sim City. (guess its like this all over us/canada) With this being my first trip to north america it was really impressive that you could drive for 20 minutes without bothering to touch the steering wheel -
Don't know if anyone has posted this yet so... This is the House of Soviets in Kaliningrad, Russia It was meant to be the central headquarters of the regions government but unfortunately everything didn't go as planned. The building was constructed on top of the ruins of an old church where the ground was full of catacombs. Building a concrete qube on top of a swiss cheese isn't the safest thing to do so the house was left to its destiny and now it serves as a mighty sentinel of the old days, overlooking the city. Horrifyingly beautiful

"Show us your historical architecture,buildings,bridges,landmarks
maosim replied to Astroman's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
A very fascinating bridge is the bridge over Oresund, connecting Sweden and Denmark. This rail and road-bridge "starts" in Malmo and dives down into a man-made island where the rest of the journey goes through a long tunnel. The bridge is 7845 m long and the tunnel is 3700 meters deep. Taller and longer is the Danish Store Baelt bridge I leave you with a link to a german site where building photos of this latter bridge can be found http://www.bernd-nebel.de/bruecken/3_bedeutend/storebaelt/bild1.html N -

Question about installing Deluxe
maosim replied to Albert Cirrus's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I have the regular SC4 version but will buy the deluxe edition tomorrow or so. Question is, how does the patching of the game work? Is the installer automaticly downloading the patches from maxis webserver and if so, is it possible to patch the game without having access to the internet? Some newer games usually have a authentication-through-web thingy built into the installer to protect patching of cracked games. -

And a small question regarding this forum: I noticed that it's stated "HTML code is not permitted" in the write-message window. When posting a message the forum doesnt recognize carriage return [enter] so I edited my message and inserted html-breaks where needed. Otherwise all you who would read my msg would just see a huge lump of text. So, if I violated the html-rule I'm sorry but I couldn't find any other way of separating the lines.

Greetings fellow city-dictators. I found my way to this wonderful site a couple of hours ago, in search of more information on SC4. Not having played the game for over a year, and not being able to play it now either, this site gave me comfort and salvation. Seeing all the neat cities built, reading some excellent mayoral journals, etc, made me remember that a big part of the playing of SC4 isn't nescessary the actual playing. Thinking about playing can be just as awarding. I remember last winter perfectly well... I had a magnificent downtown area wich I was really proud over and the residencies in the outskirts of town, beside the beautiful lake, had me smiling for days. Having read a lot on this site now I feel I should introduce myself to you all. I'm 25 years old and lives in the Swedish city Norrkoping (two dots over the last 'o'). I've been around computers since I was a child controlling my C=64 with firm hand. I think it was on the C=64 I played Sim City for the first time. But it was Populous to the Amiga that really hooked me into strategy games. Working part time as a software developer, currently writing genealogy programs and databases, to pay the rent and the occassional beer. I'm making music and obscure computer visuals and I have a strong fascination for medieval european music. For the first time in 12 years I live without access to the internet wich is a strange yet positive feeling. I actually get more things done, more books read and ehm more games played. One of my perks is probably that I can write for hours without reaching the end So, a big hello to you all

Writing the topic headline I realized that Sting didn't really sing that way. But that doesnt make any difference to how stunned I am to have ventured into this site. I haven't played Sim City 4 since last winter (february 2005 or even earlier) but I came to think of it tonight. With the help of curiosity and google I ended up here on simtropolis.com where I've been gazing with eyes wide open and utilizing the homer-style-open-mouth-technique. Seldom do I see such an amount of dedication as I do here. So many wonderful props and buildings and extras. So many interesting ideas, like the mars-mod and so many friendly comments between you users. I hope you understand why I got stuck here and had to write this post. Being a new member to this forum, yet not the community, I'd like to say greetings to all of you who are making such a terrific contribution to all the players of Sim City 4. Greetings all who might read this and in case anyone from the Sim City 4 development team would read this, greetings to you and thanks for this fantastic game. Thank you all kicking city planning inspiration back into my soul
