Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
SteveeD replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
You must be online to start up your game to register it...fine, thats acceptable to me altho barely. Every time I start my game to play again, do I have to be online ala Diablo 3? Thats extremely unacceptable to me. If one loses connection, one can keep playing but what happens when you are finished playing for that time period? Is my game saved on my 'puter or no? When I log back into the game the next time I play, is my saved game there from the night before when I lost connection? So apparently, even tho I play solo, my little city(s) will affect the virtual global economy. It has been asked that if/when modding is finally allowed, how will the various individual mods/cheats affect this global economy and gameplay in that some ppl will have them and others not, for example. Other speculations and scenarios have been asked about, and posed, and we are asked to wait until the game is released to see what will be what. How about this speculation? Mods will be allowed, even encouraged, to be developed and offered to the general Sim City 5 players, who must always be online to start their playing session and possibly, as it stands, must always be online to stop and save into the "cloud" because their city affects the entire virtual global economy. Yes, mods will be allowed but at a price. Diablo 3 took ten years in the making. Simcity 5 took ten years in the making. All kinds of promises over the years of what Diablo 3 would be were broken and what was finally offered was a PoS game(imho) that atm, is a pay to win game with a real money market for uber gear that Activision/Blizzard gets a 15% cut of whether you sell or buy in that market. It seems that Simcity 5 is also quite a bit dumbed down from what SC4 is/was as well from testimonies of ppl who played the beta. See where Im going here? I speculate that the same thing will happen with this game. Mods will be made and sold on a similiar real money market. The modder will get a nominal fee for developing the mod and everytime someone buys one of his "officially sanctioned" mods that will affect the entire virtual "global economy", or even one that is just pure eye candy, EA gets a cut. This is pure speculation on my part but entirely possible if not probable imho. I was burned by Diablo 3 with their DRM crap and literally unplayable game for almost two weeks after release because of server loads and outages. And they lost a very large player base because of their RMM policy to pay to win the game. Last I seen D3 is pretty well lost in the wilderness of mediocrity and the only ones left playing are those with the cash to pay to win and the chosen few who can find the uber equipment to sell on the RMM. As it stands I will not be purchasing a license to play Sim City 5 until long and well after release to see if the game goes in the direction I speculate it will go. I wont mind logging in the once to register the game and off I go to play my solo empire but I will not accept having to have an online connection to play and save, what traditionally has always been a solo game. -

Road Top Mass Transit - My Improvements
SteveeD replied to cjmarshall's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Hi...nice little mod...thank you ...one little discovery I had tho was as follows replaced the old mod with this one...fired up the game and chose one of my existing cities to have a look...your model replaced the old one but with a slight visual bug...the stairs stick out over the road instead of being parallel...workaround was to destroy the existing subway/bus stop (which I use pretty well exclusively when laying out my transit) and re-plopping said stop....stairs are now parallel to road anyone else who has tried this mod come upon the same bug? seems Im gonna have a lot of work ahead to replace all the stops in my existing cities thanks Steve dunno yet if the same holds true for road top subway only stops... -
