Titanic. You've been offered help all this time, people have rendered stuff for you and you release this. This, what you showed last week and everyone commented on what you should do, how you should continue. For this 4 story sign and a textureless memorial. You didn't even bother to change the scale. The titanic sank on April 14th. The date you wanted this out. Even to learn BAT that isn't enough time. Let alone to produce the quality you're expecting (though at the moment I don't know WHAT you expect) ...and you release it 2 months and 14 days ahead of schedule. All that time could have been spent improving your skills. After the constant advice people willingly give you and you produce this, I don't know what you want anymore.

..I hate to say this, but I second _marsh_. From what I can see, this one can really use a lot of improvement. I'm thinking you should shelve this project and practice with simple designs. No one can become a master of the BAT overnight, it takes work. And to save time and face, Try doing little stuff. As the old saying goes "practice makes perfect". You really can't just crank out shoddy products with minimal skill, it doesn't work that way. When I was making my F-15's I wanted to make it as accurate as possible. Every day I found new flaws and fixed them until there weren't any more. I suggest doing the same thing. Stick to one project and work on it everyday. Using photos to try and match the real thing and asking questions about what to do next will bring in better reviews. I was also about to reply to a message you sent me about this and I now find it on the STEX and taking heavy fire (as with almost all of your uploads). You can reverse this downward trend, you just have to keep at it and don't let thoughts like "I can't make anything good" take over. Right now, I would suggest working on a simple BAT, like maybe a Titanic funnel. And before even thinking of uploading, ask experienced BATters questions. If you still don't know how to do it, there are lots of tutorials on how to do it. The one thing we do ask is not to stay at square 1 where this cycle just loops over and over again.

As the above commenters said before, don't rush things. There's still a lot that needs to be done for this model. No wonder why its current rating is only a mere 1.33 stars; it's rushed and it just looks not done yet. What it mainly misses is detail, textures and the right scaling. The model looks bare, quite square, detailless and most of all, way too big (a 40m high sign with 3m letters, really?). Also, the lot looks also way too big and empty; not even a single lamp, person, tree, bench or whatever is placed on the lot, making the lot look like a giant waste of space. I think you want to start with a too big project as your first BAT. Start small, try to get to know the BAT well, take a look at the details and reference material, know your limits and most of all: do something with the comments from experienced BATters to improve your model. I may sound harsh and like I'm echoing the previous comments, but this is exactly what most people will think of it. We don't like to see people fail and we try to push them in the right direction, but it needs to come from both sides. I've seen it before at Nathanthemayor's BATs and fortunately, he did eventually listen to the comments on his BATs and his BATs are getting better from the level "absolute garbage" to "pretty decent". If you take time to listen and improve your models, you might go in the same direction. I like to see people improve over time rather than failing over and over again... Best, Maarten

I only gave you the idea to make the ship smaller and you never followed the advice. That doesn't mean that im on the TBM team. I never formally agreed to join the team, I just gave you advice that you never followed. Could you remove my name from the upload?
5. 10 points
Primitively modelled, strangely scaled, untextured, and the STEX entry is riddled with spelling errors. I'm sorry, but how is anyone supposed to take an upload like this seriously? You want to contribute, that's great - but at some point you need to ask yourself, "is what I'm contributing going to be in any way worthwhile to the community? And does the quality of the contribution I am making do it justice?"

Oh my....again.....You should really listen to what people say......*sigh...how come there isn't a thumbsdown smiley on that darn list?
8. 10 points
So that you're not the only one who posts on your upload, here's my verdict. This is one of those things that I wouldn't download, because it contains....."nothing". It is an empty lot with a baseball field and a bldg. C'mon now, who can't do this with LE? Missing details and utility (use of it). Sorry, what a waste of space. I don't vote, but I'd give this a *0*.

What's the problem with RAR files, anyway? Get a good free and open-source application like 7-Zip, and it's very likely that you'll never have to worry about archive formats again because that software pretty much covers all regular formats like ZIP, RAR, TAR.GZ etc. etc. profxyz, I think that's a really decent first upload, and you have my respect for taking that step from "leecher" to uploader. You made a good choice, too, by starting with a smaller object. Are you planning to open a BAT thread? I'm asking because IMO that would be a better place to give feedback and discuss things. In any case, keep it up!
10. 8 points
You don't even need LE to do this. You can plop down a school, baseballfield, playground, and some grass already included in the game. If you want to make a lot you have to be somewhat creative. And if you're making a lot using maxis you have to be ESPECIALLY creative because everyone is honestly tired of seeing this stuff.
11. 7 points
Just changed the file to .zip because I can't imagine how many more people would flag it or have trouble with it.
12. 7 points
I would be offended if this was a memorial for a friend or family-member that died at the titanic... You really need to listen to the people that are trying to help you improve!
13. 6 points
Well, _marsh_ took the words from my mouth. Why would I download and use this when I might as well plop down a Maxis school, a Maxis baseball field, and a Maxis playground, and the result will not only look better and more detailed, but also offer more flexibility?

Taking another look at this download, I would have made some big changes. The model itself is OK (though I would say get rid of that sign and move the letters to being at the base kind of like those plastic models) and I would completely redo the landscaping. I would have done something like this:

It has no ingame picture, and by what I know, you must provide some. If you fail to provide one, I believe mods will look your file.

Wow. Superb idea, nice lotting, beautiful details like those "less diagonal" cars, wonderful car models, and those faded cobblestone textures, the planters... so many details to look at! In fact, I have only one objection. No, not an objection - a full-grown complaint: you upload far too rarely! I'd love to see more of your stuff. And I know Ducky would, too.
19. 4 points
Pretty good. I will use Lot Editor to add some random people to it I think. Some cenotaphs, for example the one in Ottawa, are in highly used public spaces so there is some foot traffic.

Sweet grimness of everyday life! these are looking awesome. Great batting, great lotting, and the prop shack you have batted is awesome too. Great job, and fast too. Nice how you kept the dependencies small too.

Great great great... Can't wait for more Bats from you! 5/5
22. 4 points
This is a great surprise, and the BAT is just what every larger city can use! There's really nothing much to criticise, and the night lights are truly spectacular. It certainly doesn't have to hide behind cockatoo's masterpieces in that screenshot. To add just a tiny suggestion: Maybe you could have used some more glare for the red warning lights. The way they are, they look a bit like red plastics balls illuminated from the inside. That's nitpicking on a very high level, though. Well, you've manoeuvred yourself into a fine mess... now everybody will want to see more stuff from you.
23. 4 points
I recommend opening up a lotting thread to get some advice on how to improve your creations.
24. 3 points
Scaling is totally off. It looks like the upper stories are only 4 to 5 feet wide. A building like this would look better at least twice as big and tall. The textures aren't very good neither, needs a lot better ones. You said you were lazy....hm....sorry to say this, but it shows . That model is not bad at all, but if you would have spent more time texturing and scaling it, it would have been a darn good looking model.

Is it absolutely necessary to jam that logo in the front and center of the upload picture???? Can't you put it to the side (or eliminate it entirely)...?

Well, I could write a lengthy comment here, but in fact I agree 100% with Vlasky. So if you want to know my opinion, simply read his comment again and add a pat on the back from me.

BAT is good, but the lotting is...I'd say, underrated. I do live in HK and I will say that it's really empty like that. It's just a lawn and the place is closed off most of the time to the public. Though, I do think the lot was about three times as large. Good work
31. 3 points
Very nice BAT, but the lot is terrible. It needs a lot more detail, and perhaps a few sims standing around. A few trees, as well. I'll download this, and give it a try, but if i were you, i'd try to put at least a few details on the lot and give it less of a "vanilla" look. I give it 4/5. it is quite good for a first attempt. Keep it up!

Great BAT, great textures and night lighting, need I say more?
35. 3 points
It looks beautiful! My only real 'problem' with it is that because it's labeled Bank of Moscow, it's almost unusable since that title really puts it in a less versatile category...but I digress.

Downloaded and installed. Will test shortly. If I don't post further, it was OK. Excellent idea. BTW, .rar's are a nuisance. .zips are more friendly to my operating system. If you are going to do compression, there really isn't much gain between the two, and the site used to have a .zip standard. If you want to give me a good compressed file I would really appreciate a .tar.bz compressed file. Failing that, please use .zip. We are not all on windows.

I've been building my government centers around this buildings since it came out, so it's great to have an updated version of it.
I am a satisfied user of the original. Now I will use this one as well. Nofunk shows everybody that you should release your work without worrying too much about not being perfect, as you always have the chance to revisit your work and re-release them later.
The original BAT represented our abilities at the time, and it was even released a few months after we intended because we wanted it to be done right. DarkNite wasn't really around at the time so there was only a MaxisNite version, and since I still have all the files I did a quick re-export and updated my original texture/materials job while I was at it, with the benefit of hindsight and improved knowledge. It wasn't perfect the first time around (and still isn't of course), but we tried, and we created it with the opposite philosophy as the one you're promoting.
42. 3 points
Just ignore titanicbuff. It's a good lot, any chance of a Maxisnite one?
43. 3 points
hmm certainly the lot could use some work but hhhmm its ok. also i recommended you research some ideas for texture quality
44. 3 points
I'm not being harsh, but your model could be so much better with refinement and such, it's a step in the right direction, but I think it may be way too complex for you at this stage. I'd advise with something smaller...
45. 3 points
wow people are so kind, but I don't even think the uploader will bother to read these well intentioned but lengthy comments. to all the comments above, but on this upload. 1/5
46. 3 points
I don't want to be rude but it's bad. I don't need to download anything here because I can make it all using Maxis BATs. When you make a BAT it has to be something unique that you can't find otherwise, it doesn't have to be perfectly good just something new that we can't make on our own.

...now before 'some of you' all rush in here again and say things like - that is easy anyone can make a config file, just remember... not every one knows how. Also while it is true that you can make a plain region with 'new region'... that gives you a large region with a mixture of tile sizes. This download is aimed for those who would like a smaller region of a particular size tile for a specific purpose.
