Fantastique John! Les deux buildings en brique rouge et le Goober Gen Hospital, absolument spectaculaire!!

I would definitely share my pics, however, I've realised that with two kids under 4, building a city in this fine video game is something that is made just a little more difficult. I'm sure I'll have a complete city at one point or another, however, it's just not a priority right now!

I'll keep track of everything ST, because whenever I do get that 1 or 2 hours of free time, I'll be able to practice what I've seen you and David (dedgren) do!

Take care, and good week!

Oh no! I almost missed an update. (And I also guess it is time to add another CJ to your list... lol).

Anyways, back to your CJ. The alley is a great idea. I would have never thought of that. And yes, you always need a big parking lot for Goober's stuff... especially when it is a hospital. lol.

Fantastic job as usual, Darmok. You are truly inspiring people.

WOW Page 99 Congradulations John.

I envy the amount of time you have for updates my friend. Every single one is done with care. Using Deadwoods' Underground Parking between the two tall brownish buildings was a neat idea. Great job my friend.

For those who would like it, here's the link to the bat that will be used today!

    Choco (Chocolatemax285) - Green Depra

    Hey max!

Congrats for your exams! Always a stressing part of life! (I remember VERY well how I dreaded the exams  34.gif  )

Yeah, the bridge experiment, I just want to find something that looks like a stone or brick culvert, but found nothing on the STEX so far, there's one in Goobers canals, but its part of a bigger prop, and too big to be camouflaged by trees and bush. Perhaps I'll have to try my hand at batting again! (I'm not too good with it!)

Thanks for all those (very) kind words my friend, and as far as borrowing ideas, by all means go ahead, after all that's what we're here for, sharing ideas!

About the PM, if you try what I've told you, I'm pretty sure it'll facilitate your updates, as far as I'm concerned I can now do the same thing in about half the time it took me before!

    Take care!

BerlinDude - The City of Lisoaca - Glory and Darkness, Divided and Reunited!

    Welcome to Anduin Valley, BerinDude

Glad you appreciate AVR, come back anytime you want, the doors always open!

    See you!

    S_A_ (Shadow_Assassin) - The Savannah Way

    Hi S_A

Hehehe... well the same thing's happening here! And curiously, as everywhere else in the world I guess, finding a culprit would require Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, The CSI team and perhaps you can add The X-files Team cause it's a real mind-boggling thing!

But then again, life would be dull without those mysteries!

    Take care.

Jason -(Aldara6166) - Modular Amusement park thread

    Jason, how's it going!

Yeah I know you're working like crazy on the MAPP! And to be able to accommodate it, I've been adding some new city tiles on the region map. I have an idea of trying wouanagaine terraforming tool to adjust it. Don't worry I'll backup the region first!

Thanks for the visit and the info on your progress!

I'll try to find some time to visit the thread!

    Take care

    Bat

    Thanks Bat!

Kant01 - The Mystic County Project

Hi Kant, thanks, the only downside of that parking lot, are the stairs hangin out on both sides, would be fun to have just the concrete entrance.

    Take care!

    KoolSIM

Hi Aasim, glad you appreciate, I know this one was short, and in fact so will this one. Bigger ones will follow!

    Thanks for your support!

    ThomasAH - Zorturia

Hi Thomas, glad to help you my friend, whenever I can!

    Take care!

Luker01 - San Lucas: My first CJ

    Hi Luke,

Thanks, as for the people on top of the parking entrance, it's their problem... how they got up here in the first place!

    Mysteries mysteries! ;-)

And about the terrain, looking at the area you circle I have two choices:

Choice No 1. If you're talking about that (very) small kink in the street, I'd say that I've spoiled you with my fussiness on smoothing the roads and streets! LOL, and if it is indeed the case then I'm glad you noticed it! ;-)

Second choice: If you're talking about the small "protuberances" in the texture of the terrain itself, then It's probably one of two things:

    A) The terrain have developed acne and it'll cost me an arm and a leg in cleansing creams!

    OR

    b) It's simply a variation of CycleDog Terrain texture (And I hope to God it's the good explanation, cause I don't have the budget for the other explanation)  2.gif

Oooooohhh boy, I've written a lot of cockamamie stories in my time, but this one is close of taking the cake!  18.gif

Alright, back to topic, thanks for your support and see you next time!

P.S. The answer given by Tracker must have been the good one!....

    GaBoR - Oro Bruno

    Hola GaBor,

Gracias para tu bueno comentarios amigo! (if this translation is incorrect or impolite please tell me! just trying to learn a bit of spanish along the way) 2.gif

By the way I assumed you speak spanish by reading your CJ, but maybe I'm wrong!

Anyhow, thanks for the comments, and indeed see you friday, and in OroBruno!

    Take care

    Tracker - Graph X Services

    Hi Tracker,

Thanks for helping, and BTW I went to your thread and followed the link to mrbisonm thread, and learned a lot!

And for this... here's a bunny for you!....  35.gif  Ahhhh what the heck take a ducky also!  40.gif

    Take care!

    GMT - Greater Columbia River

    Hi Torben,

For the ending pieces I'll keep looking! But I've already checked at least twice the whole list!  34.gif

    But I'm stubborn!

    Take care!

    Going2Chicago

    Hey G2C,

    Thanks!

    Jacky (jacqulina) - Paradise Falls"

    Hey lassie!

You know what, your PC problems are a good excuse to get a new videocard! ;-)

Thanks for your always gracious comments, and go ahead    I'm sure there's a computer shop nearby (listen to that little voice telling you "Upgrade....Upgrade!")

    Take care my friend!

P.S. I'm working on that Imageschack tutorial I've promised some time ago, I'm almost finished, I'll try to post it as soon as I can!

Szarkoz - The Free Democratic Nation of Caledonia

Hi Szarkoz, I try to use those alleys almost everywhere I have med or high density, they're part of the urban reality.

I decided to keep those brown buildings knowing they would be a good contrast for Goober's hospital.

And glad you noticed that Bruinen Fjord is not as "uppish" as some other places in AVR, but then again.... well let's the story unfold.

Thanks for the visit my friend

    Take care

    KT3 - Katies Mountain Retreat

Welcome to Anduin Valley KT (Katie?)

Well if you're slapping yourself, you should also slap me for never visiting your CJ before! And I must add that it's worth a visit!

Thanks for your visit, looking forward to reading you again!

    Take care

    Seemurra2 - Port Evergreen

    Welcome to Anduin Valley Seemurray,

The colors must be because I'm using CycleDog Mod, I rarely modify the pics in Photoshop, save for the rain effects, and some sharpening for the overviews so we can see more details. OR you may have a very good monitor ;-)

I like that hospital sector the result is what I was looking for, (sometimes I can't achieve what I have in mind...  34.gif ).

    Come back whenever you like!

    Take care

    Cjah - Callisto

    Hi Cjah,

If I'd be a bit good with the BAT, I'd try to make a stone culvert for the ploppable water, but in the meantime, that's the solution that worked for me, cause as David (Daedgren) mentioned a few post down your own, every one find his/hers own solution with ploppable water, they will vary with everyone style.

    Take care

Special Eddie - Oasis--The Wild West

    Hi Eddie

Thanks! And as for the chocolatechip cookie market, **looking around suspiciously** **using a hushed voice** I have some names!

    Mattb325

    Welcome to Anduin Valley Matt

Yeah I must admit that my SC4 "production" has slowed down since I began to use more and more the LE and SC4Tool, but I think it allows us to create a more "personal" city.

    Thanks for your kind words!

    Take care

    Threestooges

    Hi Threestooges,

The water plants are available on Gizmo's website, you'll have to register but it's free and well worth it!

As for the superlatives, please refrain, I'd rather read your witty responses than any compliments ;-) , though.... I could point some good thesaurus!  18.gif

Hoping that Dr. Curly find a cure, In the meantime I could suggest dipping ones hand in Visine before performing the gouging to at least prevent infection.

    Take care!

David (dedgren) - Three Rivers Region

    David,

Talk about a coincidence, reading your comment about Leonardo, Jean-Sebastien and Albert, just the other night after dinner, over a good Monte Cristo and Port, they were telling me how they admired your work! ;-)

Seriously I agree about each of us finding it's own way, and I guess thats why SimCity has always been my favorite game. And this community is such an extraordinary think thank, it's incredible! In just over a year, just by reading and learning from other CJ'ers my playing style changed a lot! For example, Jeroni gave me the kick in the pants so I'd become involved in doing another CJ, Dan (Dhoppeii) influenced me to make rural setups, which I had rarely done before, Alek (Aleking) had an influence on me trying and experimenting with BuddyBud's pieces, you influenced me using the ploppable water.... and I'm sure I'll continue to learn new tricks! (You know what they say about old dogs...)

As for the ploppable water use, I guess that our physical environment must influence how we design things. My guess would be that you have lots of rocky creeks in Alaska, contrary to where I come frome where the rivers have trees right on the creeks/rivers banks.

I couldn't agree more on the surface water topic, would be great if it would be easier to work with, but I must admit that taking into account how it takes time and patience to come up with a good creek/river design the end result is very satisfying. But something like having the rain mod leaving permanent water would be a blessing.

Thanks for those very generous (and might I add articulate) toughts about Bruinen Fjord. I really try to have a more "region philosophy" now when I build my cities, instead of viewing each city as a whole, that's why I though of placing such a big hospital in a not so big city, thinking that it could serve the greater AV area. And also more simply because I like it's no-nonsense look ;-)

My friend I know you're lurking and I appreciate each of your post whenever you have the time, lack of free time I can understand and relate to.

Very good to hear from you!

    Regards to you and family

    John

Rooker1 - Xania a tour of my world

    Hi Rooker

News on the "T" business, I've contacted Dan (Dhoppeii) and he said that he'll upload them to the STEX (there's actually three lot, a T a Curve and a Crossing) as soon as he can, this may take some time though, don't expect them in the following days, this may take some weeks, he don't have much time to dedicate to the game these days, but he'll be back as soon as he can.

The new powerlines.... hehehe when I saw them on the STEX I was sure that you'd be one of the first to use them, and I was right ;-)

    Saw your update! Good work!

So just a bit of patience for the connector pieces (they're worth it) and see you soon.

    Take care

    Nik-nik

No problem Nik, RL must always come first!

The solar plant....hummmm.. how about **thinking fast..** HA! how about they drive up (very carefully) up the cycleways to go there??? Acceptable??

The dirt road behind the station is due to Szarkoz influence who made me rethink the street setup that was there before. The rest is simply me having fun with the LE.

Hehehe... Right you are, about the food!

See you next time, and regards to the family!

    zzsim

    Welcome to Anduin Valley zzsim!

Thanks for the compliments, as for the ploppable water, part of the credits goes to David (dedgren), I won't say "The Devil made me do it" but If I did you could change the word "Devil" for "David" and that would be a correct assertion!  18.gif

    Come back anytime

    Take care

    Pixelrage

Hey PixelRage, You won't have to look very far for the covered bridge, it's a Maxis original bridge, it appears in the choice when you lay down a bridge... (And don't worry, I've also searched for it on the STEX sometime ago until I realized that it was already in the game!)   2.gif

    Take care

    Rhéal – rw0381c

    Salut Rhéal,

Comment veux-tu rater un secteur quand tu utilise de si beaux immeubles!

How can you miss when using such great looking buildings!

TWO KIDS UNDER 4!!! Hehehe... I can easily imagine the scene when you're trying to play SC4 while being assaulted by this commando!  18.gif

Believe me I understand perfectly! ;-)

About practicing what we see others do in their CJ, is exactly what I was saying to David a few post above, that game is so full of possibilities and open to creativeness that we can learn new things almost everyday!

See you soon, and now go have fun with your kids!

    Take care

    Micah - Kingwood

Hi Micah, links corrected, and great start for your CJ!

Thanks for your good comments, glad to know AVR can still inspire ideas, for my part I know that I've learned (and still do, by the way)  a lot from reading other CJ's.

    Take care

    Sorchin – Developping Macedon

    Hey Steve,

I still can't believe it you know!

This has really started like a small experiment and a personal challenge for myself, and along the way I had such great support and met so much interesting people, that now the interaction and the exchange of ideas is as much important for me as the CJ itself! You, and all the persons who are posting on a regular basis have became part of my daily routine and you're feeding me new ideas all the time. So AVR success is due for a very large part to all your feedback!  44.gif

As for the time, It's just a matter of doing this a small step at a time and making choices, I've really cut my TV viewing, I take all my lunch hours to prepare updates and answer posts, and things like that, so you see the time is there, we just have to take it.

    Always good to read you!

    Take care!

    Anubis - anubis' cities

    Glad to help anubis,

On the ploppable water topic, after some experimentation, I find it very interesting, there are limitations but the end results are generally adequate. And it can ad so much to a setup!

    See you!

    USA Patriot

Welcome to Anduin Valley USA Patriot,

Thanks for your very kind words, I honestly don't know if it is in fact that realistic, I just try to create cities that I would like too live in.

    Come back anytime!

    freedo50

    Welcome to Anduin Valley Freedo,

It's more a question of being pigheaded that dedicated! I started it as a personal challenge, to see if for once I could finish up a region map!

Never done it before, always stopped before the end. So far so good!

Thanks for your comments, come back whenever you like, the door's always open!

    See you!

People you really are an incredible bunch!

Your support is always a great source of motivation for me!

    Thanks.

BTW, I know this one was a bit short, just so you know, the next ones will be longer.

Some other food for thoughts? Yes? Alright let's see what I can find in my old books....

**sounds of ruffling pages, dust lifting in the air...**

    cough...cough..

    Ahhh here's one! --

Mistral Jaune! One of my favourite BATs!

I really like the area where you placed it. The composite shot of evolution of the work looks great. But my favourite shot is the one with the train passing on, it's just sweeeeet! 10/10, perfect 9.gif

Next updates will be longer? Well I'm sure the next one will be much longer, because it'll be on 100th page! wow, 100 pages... that's pretty amazing, but, oh well, we'll talk about 100th page in the next update because I don't want to be spoilsport now 2.gif

See you in AVR or Caledonia!

    John:

    I'm running, so two things-

That railroad steel arch bridge in aught-5- that's not a game bridge, is it?  Enquiring minds want to know (you tease, you).

Second, my guess is that some folks around here would kill (well, lets not go overboard, maim, maybe) to be the first post on page 100 of AVR.  You ought to run a contest.  Lock the CJ right after the last post on this page, which should pose some arcane question about something that happened, oh, say 57 pages ago.  Have people PM you with the answer.  First correct one gets to be post 3001 (woops!) 2971  Lots of boring detail (yuckkk, details) to work out, but hey!  What a hoot!

    David

EDIT:  Corrected number of posts (math was never my strong suit).  This is post, btb, 2958.

Nice industrial park John. The retaining walls and asphalt parking lots fit really nice.

Hard to believe you're on the brink of 100 pages. All the praise you and your cj has recieved is certainly well deserved.

A special thanks to the effort you put into creating your replies, with links and all.

I know that takes a lot of time, and it's just one of those special touches you do, that helps make this cj so great.

Again congrats; we're looking forward to many more updates!

You know what? I am a bit green of envie since I could never get this reward (even though I really tried! I love that BAT!!!!!!)

okay, no word about the intermodal section in the draft 2.gif

But I love how you combined the industrial parking lots with buddybud's staircase. it really fits - except the cul-de-sac..

The new situation of the intermodal Depot is waqy better!

    Salut mon ami.

    Hey John,

once again you prove us to be a really  creative and smart person with all those nice developments each one with the right porpouse on the right place, you know I'm talking about updates as I've been really busy lately and I try to post into as many CJs as I can, getting back to the CJ, among the great things I can detach the students house, the hotel, the antennas and so on.

Oh and the incredible terraforming still doesn't stop to be shown.

Bon fin de semaine à toi.

    Great Update Darmok!!

Hey, I love that picture where you have combined four pictures and added a compass pointer in between. Did you do that in Photoshop? Could you tell me how you did it? I would like to learn how to combine images together...

I also like the way you a highlight an area in a map which you are about to develop and then drop a shadow on the ground while the highlight mark is in the air. How do you do that?

    Thanks! Take Care!
